Michelle Keegan introduces her audition tape with Jack P Shepherd from six years ago. This is where Tina's Coronation Street journey all began. Latest Articles. Zeedan Returns! Next week: Todd decides to become a better person, but we're not quite sure about that one! Interview With Colson Smith. Colson talks about the pressure he feels being caught between PC Brody and James & Michael. Corrie had tears. But it set me up well for comedy; Michelle Keegan on playing it for laughs in her new TV role, being away from her husband and why she's still the same down-to-earth girl she always was. The last time we met Michelle Keegan, we were in a nondescript studio on an industrial estate in Salford, her with scraped-back hair, no make-up (still irritatingly gorgeous, mind) and in her gym gear. Two years on, having left Tina McIntyre's hoop earrings strewn across the Corrie cobbles, she's moved south, married her Prince of Brentwood - ex-Towie star Mark Wright - and bagged herself some decent new acting roles. Times have changed and now we meet in a fancy London hotel, where she is wearing her new role as Essex's First Lady very well - with huge diamond rocks on her fingers and her ears, the obligatory tan (to be fair, due to her Spanish heritage rather than a tanning booth down Loughton High Street), the slick blow-dry and the black trouser suit from her own Lipsy range. Leaving a soap is a big gamble for an actor. Many are not seen for dust - but this was never going to be the case with Michelle. Since marrying her Mr Wright and quitting Weatherfield, the 28-year-old hasn't been short of offers. As well as launching Lipsy and becoming a new face of Revlon, she's appeared in the BBC drama Ordinary Lies and is starring in Our Girl as Army medic Corporal Georgie Lane. And, tomorrow, audiences will get to see her first comedy turn in Plebs, as a vestal virgin who is frustrated she has never left Rome - or eaten a kebab. After outraging the whole city, she has to be smuggled out of town in a truck, hidden under a stack of large truckles mouldy cheese. It's all in a day's work and she feels Corrie prepared her well for comedy. She said: "Well, there was comedy in Corrie - in between all the crying and shouting. "I had some funny bits, especially with Steve McDonald in the Rovers. I loved all that and when I left, I decided comedy was something I want to do. So when Plebs came up, I jumped at it. "Plebs was such a great gig. My character's quite cheeky, she's a bit forceful, not what you expect at the beginning. I got to dress up and the big sets were amazing. We filmed it in Bulgaria. It was very surreal. I'm used to the Corrie set so this was huge, it's actually like you're in Rome." Less fun was the prospect of her first-ever sex scene, something she admits she'd always dreaded. But it turns out she was a natural. Michelle said: "I'd never done one before - I know people who've done them and I've always been like, 'How could you do that?' It was the first scene I did, I wanted to get it out the way. And we had to do it lots of times to shoot different angles. It was with Joel Fry (Stylax) who is really laid back and made me feel comfortable. Afterwards I was like, 'Was that it? How could I get so nervous?' I'm not going to lie, it was so easy." Michelle is filming Our Girl in South Africa, taking over from Lacey Turner - which is, understandably, a little daunting. She said: "I've always been a fan of Lacey's. I was a bit in awe of her because she's such a good actress. It's an amazing gig, I want to do it justice." We wonder if the show will present Michelle with another worry. How will she cope without Mark when she's so far away from home? She said: "I'll be there for a couple of months. Mark will come out to visit and we've got FaceTime, we've got WhatsApp. We're used to it. Last year he did a show and he was gone for three weeks at a time, home for two days, then he'd go again. But I'll miss home comforts." When she started out on Corrie, Michelle wanted to succeed - but did she expect things to go this well, in front of the camera and away from it? She said: "No, no not at all. When I see a picture on Twitter of one of my dresses, it's hard to get my head round it. I worked in clothes shops in the Trafford Centre and now I'm on the other side. I'll never get used to that." I still this felt." Michelle is so famous now that photographers follow her on a trip to the rubbish tip - and she admits the trappings of fame can sometimes become annoying. got the good always Michelle said: "People were like, 'Oh she set that up'. Why would I set a photographer up at the bloody skip? "I went to the dentist yesterday and I got followed there too. I can't do normal day-to-day things and I don't mind sometimes but when I'm on my own, it can be a bit daunting. "Recently my mum was down and we wanted to take the dogs for a walk but my mum didn't want to get pictured, so we couldn't go out and that's just frustrating." Despite those pressures, Michelle is adamant that she's yet to have a diva moment. She said: "I genuinely haven't, I still feel to this day like I felt at the beginning. I've got the same good mates around me I've always had. "People think once you're in the public eye everything is going to change. I still go to the same places with my friends." So does Corrie feel like a lifetime ago now? "Not really, it's like no time has passed," Michelle said. "I miss the people so much - I know it's a cliche but it is like a family. I was so comfortable I'd walk in wearing my onesie. "I knew what to expect with Corrie, nothing was a shock and I do miss that, but I also like the fact I don't know what I'll be doing in six months' time. That's the beauty of being an actor, I think." Michelle misses parts of her life up north - like her mum. And gravy. She said: "I had the option of going to see my mum because she lived 10 minutes away and my dad lived five minutes away. And I can't get good gravy at the chippy in Essex. '' feel to day like I before I've same mates I "People think I'm a health freak. I haven't been to the gym in seven weeks. I love food. I just ate a tuna salad but I had macaroni cheese on the side. I'd never stop myself eating something. I love eating Nutella out of the jar." had " It sounds like she's pretty normal - are her rows with Mark. They're about the same dull stuff that get the rest of us bickering. She added: "We never really row row, just more little things. I have to have the house tidy there and then. I can't leave it. Mark can leave it - he'll be like, 'We'll do it in the morning'. "I find it therapeutic doing all that, it's a bit of normality." She likes normal life so much you'll even find her on public transport - and she won't mind you sneaking selfies. She said: "I use the Tube a lot. A lad tried to take a picture and his flash went off so it was so obvious, and he was like, 'Oh, sorry, sorry'. I used to take sly pictures of people when I was younger so I just laughed. I felt dead sorry for him. "I was in LA and Priscilla Presley was eating at the table next to me. I couldn't believe I was sat next to her and I couldn't ask for a picture, "I wanted to so badly but I was so embarrassed. I was obsessed with Elvis growing up - a big, big fan." That pic aside, Michelle insists she regrets nothing. She said: "I don't really have regrets. I believe in fate and that everything happens for a reason. They're not regrets, they're learning curves." stunner Michelle is more than a glamour girl. my at on '' I still feel to this day like I felt before Corrie. I've got the same good mates I always had.
