They worked side by side and what happens is, the patients in more chronic states were followed by the hospitalists and more acute patients are followed by the intensivists. Thankfully, COVID-19 is not a complex disease, so what was run in the ICU setting could be ran in the rest of the medical ward. The non-COVID patients were brought in to doctors who were mostly clinical practice. I’m a nephrologist, but during COVID I took care of every dialysis patent that was in the hospital and became their primary doctor.
