UBISOFT® AND SOUTH PARK DIGITAL STUDIOS ANNOUNCE SOUTH PARK™: THE FRACTURED BUT WHOLE™ Follow-Up to Critically Acclaimed South Park™: The Stick of Truth™ Confirmed LOS ANGELES — June 15, 2015 — Today, at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Ubisoft® and South Park Digital Studios announced that South Park™: The Fractured but Whole™, a sequel to 2014’s award-winning South Park™: The Stick of Truth™, is currently in development. Ensuring another truly authentic South Park experience, creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker are involved in every step of the development of the game. “The success of South Park: The Stick of Truth proves our fans crave a deeper interactive experience with South Park,” said Dan Yang, EVP and GM, Consumer Products, Viacom Music & Entertainment Group. “Working with Ubisoft to extend the South Park gaming franchise will no doubt galvanize the audience’s interest across all platforms.” “By successfully mixing outstanding comedy with excellent gameplay, South Park: The Stick of Truth created a game genre: the Comedy Role-Playing Game,” said Laurent Detoc, president at Ubisoft.

south park stick of truth free download pc South Park: the Stick of Truth. Over the years, the popularity of South Park as a television show has resulted in the creation of a number of video games based on the series, producing rather mixed results. South Park: The Stick of Truth, released in 2014, is developed by Obsidian Entertainment and takes a rather more committed approach to the task. Unlike many of the previous attempts to bring South Park to life in video game form, The Stick of Truth was designed in close collaboration with South Park's creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Indeed, Parker and Stone wrote the script, provided their voice acting services and were involved in other design aspect. So does it pay off? The Concept. The game puts the user in control of The New Kid, a character who has just moved to the town of South Park, and who soon gains the nickname 'Douchebag'. Once there, he becomes involved in an epic role-play fantasy, where characters battle for possession of The Stick of Truth. A 2.5D, third-person RPG, the game includes many elements familiar to fans of the genre, such as character archetypes. However, these elements are infused with traditional South Park humour, which is why one of the archetypes is 'The Jew'. Many of the characters from the television series appear in the game, including the main quartet of Kyle, Kenny, Stan and Cartman and the game looks exactly like the TV show. Gameplay. The player is able to move freely around the town of South Park, creating a sense of full immersion.

  • An Abstract of the Thesis Of
AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF William Robert Holderness for the degree of Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies in Speech Communication, Political Science and Speech Communication presented on June 8, 2010. Title: Why We Worship the Economy: A Burkean Analysis of South Park‘s ―Margaritaville‖ Abstract approved: _________________________________________________ Robert S. Iltis The television show South Park, created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, is viewed by millions of people each week, regularly addresses a number of controversial issues and plays a major role in contemporary popular culture. Current academic research acknowledges Parker and Stone‘s willingness to attack the dominant views surrounding a number of political and social issues. This research also identifies a number of rhetorical devices used in making these attacks. This thesis attempts to reconcile these rhetorical devices with the use of incongruity. Through an interdisciplinary approach to theories on decision making and through applying Burke‘s concepts of perspective by incongruity, master tropes and frames of acceptance and rejection, this thesis analyzes the South Park episode ―Margaritaville.‖ The question that is the focus of this thesis is: How does ―Margaritaville‖ use planned incongruity to reframe dominant discussions concerning the United States financial crisis? The findings of this study indicate that through the use of Burke‘s master tropes and frames of acceptance and rejection ―Margaritaville‖ both identifies and questions the American public‘s tendency to view the economy as they would a deity. This thesis determines that the episode ―Margaritaville‖ has a positive effect on its ideal audience. Furthermore, this study demonstrates both the importance of developing an interdisciplinary theory of human decision-making and notes the utility of using a similar Burkean analysis to examine primetime, adult-oriented cartoons.

  • The Creation of Black Character Formulas: a Critical Examination of Stereotypical Anthropomorphic Depictions and Their Role in Maintaining Whiteness
THE CREATION OF BLACK CHARACTER FORMULAS: A CRITICAL EXAMINATION OF STEREOTYPICAL ANTHROPOMORPHIC DEPICTIONS AND THEIR ROLE IN MAINTAINING WHITENESS THESIS Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Master‘s Degree in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Melissa Renee Crum, B.A. Graduate Program in African American and African Studies The Ohio State University 2010 Master‘s Thesis Committee: Professor Horace Ike Newsum, Advisor Professor Maurice Stevens Professor Kenneth Goings Copyright by Melissa Renee Crum 2010 ABSTRACT The mass media industry as a hegemonic entity has played a vital role in displaying fallacious accounts of black life. Grounded in ideas from scholars like Richard Schechner, Patricia Ticineto, Joseph Roach and Sara Ahmed, this research is a critique of the ways in which memory, and its possible manifestations, plays in non-blacks‘ (specifically whites) interpretation, motivation, and perception of stereotypical visual portrayals of blackness. The focus will be on how the continuing phenomenon of stereotyping blackness in the 20th and 21st centuries is perpetuated in child-targeted feature-length animations with animal characters. I argue that the possible furtive and/or involuntary visual manifestations of ―black identity‖ in animation have their sources in a white historical memory that clings to the desire to maintain whiteness. This work demonstrates how ideas of blackness in white memory were not solely constructed from the imaginations of producers of mainstream culture. Rather black stereotypes are the result of a combination of black protest against negative portrayals, blacks as accomplices in perpetuating their negative stereotypes, and whites‘ imagined ways of blackness.

  • The Black Press, African American Celebrity Culture, and Critical Citizenship in Early Twentieth Century America, 1895-1935
LOOKING AT THE STARS: THE BLACK PRESS, AFRICAN AMERICAN CELEBRITY CULTURE, AND CRITICAL CITIZENSHIP IN EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURY AMERICA, 1895-1935 A Dissertation Submitted to the Temple University Graduate Board In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY OF MEDIA AND COMMUNICATION by Carrie Teresa May 2014 Examining Committee Members: Carolyn Kitch, Advisory Chair, Media and Communication Susan Jacobson, Journalism & Mass Communication, Florida International University Andrew Mendelson, Media and Communication Linn Washington, External Member, Journalism ABSTRACT Through the development of entertainment culture, African American actors, athletes and musicians increasingly were publicly recognized. In the mainstream press, Black celebrities were often faced with the same snubs and prejudices as ordinary Black citizens, who suffered persecution under Jim Crow legislation that denied African Americans their basic civil rights. In the Black press, however, these celebrities received great attention, and as visible and popular members of the Black community they played a decisive yet often unwitting and tenuous role in representing African American identity collectively. Charles M. Payne and Adam Green use the term “critical citizenship” to describe the way in which African Americans during this period conceptualized their identities as American citizens. Though Payne and Green discussed critical citizenship in terms of activism, this project broadens the term to include considerations of community- building and race pride as well. Conceptualizing critical citizenship for the black community was an important part of the overall mission of the Black press. Black press entertainment journalism, which used celebrities as both “constellations” and companions in the fight for civil rights, emerged against the battle against Jim Crowism and came to embody the spirit of the Harlem Renaissance.

This thesis concludes that superheroes, an evolutionary offshoot of American tall tale heroes, have consistently reflected, perpetuated, and even shaped specific understandings of leadership and heroism in the United States throughout the twentieth and into the twenty-first century.
