One more regular meeting and then our club can celebrate our accomplishments for the past year. The Awards Night is scheduled for Thursday, June 18 th at the Three Flames. I’m still thinking of getting a stand-in for the 25th of June. And then it is July – it’s Ken’s turn. I have been a bit negative about my own accomplishments this past year but there is no mistaking the fact that our club has accomplished a lot over the past year. And I intend to hit on them this coming Thursday. Another reason to attend the Awards Night is the presentation by Bruce Curley. I won four tickets to a Stanford football game this past Friday. I was being very honest when I said I support Stanford in every case except whenever they play Cal. It was interesting to have Darrin Nelson as the speaker. He was trying to get ideas from us for how to fill their stadium for football. The solution is ….. product. Put a good product on the field and the fans will come. It was amusing when he mentioned that some of the previous coaches were not a good fit for Stanford. Walt Harris from Pittsburgh enters the locker room and tells the Stanford players that their will be no guns in the dorm (or locker room). Yours in Rotary Service, Jerry The TJ Martin Homeowners Association sent a letter thanking us for our participation in the tree planting project in the TJ Martin Park. The Blossom Valley Pony League sent a letter thanking us for our contribution to their program. Our meeting day will continue to be Friday permanently. Don’t miss Awards Night on Thursday, June 18 th at 6:00 PM at the Three Flames. Roger Hassler introduced Guest-of-Rotary Edesa Bithadal . Bob Dolci asked us to give either Joe Pillegi or him a check for the All Star Football Game. The football committee will meet on Monday, June 16 th , at 6:00 PM at Legends Pizza. Ken Wadors introduced Darrin Nelson , Assistant Athletic `Director at Stanford University. Darrin was recruited to play football at Stanford by Bill Walsh . Bill met with Darrin’s parents who were both teachers and before Darrin got to meet Bill his parents said yes. At Stanford Darrin was on track, baseball and football teams and was editor of the sports newsletter. He then played for the Minnesota Vikings and San Diego Chargers in the NFL. When Darrin played at Stanford the old 85,000 seat stadium would be filled. Today the new 55,000 seat stadium typically only has 35,000 people in it. Darrin got lots of suggestions when he asked how to get more people to attend games. The 1 st suggestion was get a better football team; Darrin said Jim Harbaugh will do that. Darrin provided 2 sets of tickets for a Stanford football game next season that were added to our drawing.
