It seems to be true! Five communities have permanent galleries for visual arts, and many others host annual art festivals. The Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery in Sarnia is a world-class gallery that hosts local and internationally renowned exhibi- tions. Paintings from Dali, Escher and Carr have graced its walls and brought in thousands of art enthusiasts to view works, all at no charge. Nestled in downtown Sarnia, the Lawrence House Centre for the Arts hosts visual, musical and literary art. Concerts, exhibitions and retrospectives come to life in this unique century home, which is in itself a museum of restored heritage. Be sure to take in a free spoken-word event in the Turret Room – it’s a unique and enriching experience. Artist Francis Martin has made his studio home in Watford. From the time he could hold a pencil, Francis has had a need to create. Mural painting is his first love, with urban walls often his canvas. You can see his work enhancing many Southwest- ern Ontario towns. Visit his studio to see his latest creations. The beautiful natural surroundings and laidback lifestyles in Lambton Shores inspire painters, photographers, jewellers and sculptors to create exquisite pieces. Greet artists in their studios and galleries at the Arts, Eats & Beats Studio Tour held the third weekend in May. Hear toe-tapping musicians, tour 30+ artist locations, and dine at participating area restaurants. Experience a smorgasbord of creativity at the annual Sarnia Artwalk festival, which includes art exhibitions, demonstrating artists, musical and visual performances, and ethnic food. experiences that matter | 9 dig deeper Arkona Lions Museum Forest Lambton Museum Lambton Heritage Museum Lambton Room Archives Moore Museum Oil Museum of Canada Stones ‘N Bones Museum 10 | 1-800-265-0316 | www.TourismSarniaLambton.com 1.
