Press Release July 7, 2016 No. T 22/16 Porsche Brand Ambassador to play Serena Williams for her second Grand Slam title Angelique Kerber in Wimbledon dream final Stuttgart. Angelique Kerber’s Wimbledon is still right on track. The Porsche Brand Ambassador has reached the final of the world’s most important tournament and will now attempt to win her second career Grand Slam title against the American Serena Williams on Saturday. The spectators in the tennis Mecca in London SW19 will therefore watch a repeat of the Australian Open final that Angelique Kerber won 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 after a tense and top class match earlier this year on 28 January. “Serena is an icon and definitely our sport’s number 1. To play her a second time within the space of a year in a Grand Slam final is incredible,” said the 28-year old who, 20 years after Steffi Graf’s last title in 1996 and Cilly Aussem (1931), could become the third German to win the famous Venus Rosewater Dish on Saturday. In the second semi-final on Thursday, the new world No. 2 defeated the five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams, the sister of her final opponent, 6-4, 6-4 after another impressive display. It means she enters her second Grand Slam final highly confident after having not lost a set. “I’m momentarily playing the best tennis of my career,” she said. “And since the Australian Open, I know what one has to do to win such a title.” In the first ladies‘ semi-final of the day, Serena Williams was an easy 6-2, 6-0 winner in only 48 minutes against Elena Vesnina from Russia. The ladies final will be played on Saturday at 15.00 hrs CET. Dr. Ing. h.c. F.
