Summoning Spirits
. A Collection of Sacred Magick | The Esoteric Library | www.sacred-magick.com Evocation can be defined as the calling forth of an entity from another plane of existence to an external manifestation in either the astral or physical plane. INTRODUCTION magician felt a surge of excitement run through him as he icked up the leather-bound book. He carefully opened the old diary to the section marked "Conjuration," and began to read by the red light of the filtered lamp on the altar. When the oration was completed, the magician glanced at the painted wooden triangle he had positioned outside the magic circle. Toward the cen- ter of the equilateral triangle, smokerose from a brass censer in a steady stream, filling the entire room with the scent of peppermint. Scattered about this glowing bowl were pieces of iron, garnet, and red jasper; to the right of the censer stood a metal figurine of a scorpion that cast moving shadows on the floor as the glow of the coals illuminated it. Slowly, the magician's gaze fixed upon the small object at the base of the triangle. The red light in the room, combined with the faint glow of the censer, clearly showed the symbol drawn on the round piece of paper. It was this sigil that the magician began to focus on as he closed his eyes. In a few moments, the magician held up his wand and slowly started opening his eyes. The name "Phalegh," which he had been repeating mentally, A Collection of Sacred Magick | The Esoteric Library | www.sacred-magick.com escaped his lips as a whisper, and he continued calling the Mars spirit out loud. -
Appendix 1 the World of Cinema in Argentina
Appendix 1 The World of Cinema in Argentina A revelation on January 17, 2002. I am headed to the Citibank on Cabildo Street, where I have a savings account. I try to enter the bank but cannot because of the number of people waiting. So I give up on my errand. I cross the street to return home, and from the sidewalk facing the bank I see, for the first time, the building in which it is housed. The familiar is made strange; shortly after, it becomes familiar again, but in a slightly disturbing way. I recognize the building’s arches and moldings, its fanciful rococo façade. I recognize the Cabildo movie theater, in which I saw so many movies as an adolescent. Although I have been coming to this bank for years, I have never before made this connection. I know movie theaters that have been transformed into video arcades, into evangelical churches,1 into parking garages, even into bookstores. Yet I knew of none that had become a bank. All my savings were housed in a space that had been shadows, lights, images, sounds, seats, a screen, film. I remember that around the age of sixteen, I saw Robert Redford’s Ordinary People (1980) on the same day as Alain Resnais’ Last Year at Marienbad (1961) in the Hebraica theater. Two or three movies a day (video didn’t exist then) in which almost everything was film, film, and only film. These are the adolescent years in which cinephilia is born: a messy love, passionate, without much judgment. -

Wilson, Pulitzer Prize–Winner “This cult classic in many ways parallels René Descartes’ search for reliable and certain knowledge...Drawing on such disciplines as philosophy, psychology, and biology, Alper The argues that belief in a spiritual realm is an evolutionary coping method that developed to help humankind deal with the fear of death...Highly recommended.” —Library Journal “I very much enjoyed the account of your spiritual journey and believe it would make excellent reading for every college student—the resultant residence-hall debates would “ ” be the best part of their education. It often occurs to me that if, against all odds, there is a judgmental God and heaven, it will come to pass that when the pearly gates open, those who had the valor to think for themselves will be escorted to the head of the line, GOD garlanded, and given their own personal audience.” —Edward O. Wilson, two-time Pulitzer Prize–Winner “This is an essential book for those in search of a scientific understanding of man’s spiritual nature. Matthew Alper navigates the reader through a labyrinth of intriguing questions and then offers undoubtedly clear answers that lead to a Part better understanding of our objective reality.” —Elena Rusyn, MD, PhD; Gray Laboratory; Harvard Medical School of the “What a wonderful book you have written. It was not only brilliant and provocative but also revolutionary in its approach to spirituality as an inherited trait.” —Arnold Sadwin, MD, former chief of Neuropsychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania Brain “A lively manifesto...For the discipline’s specific application to the matter at hand, I’ve seen nothing that matches the fury of The ‘God’ Part of the Brain, which perhaps explains why it’s earned something of a cult following.” —Salon.com A Scientific Interpretation of “All 6 billion plus inhabitants of Earth should be in possession of this book. -
