The feature on its upper surface is very unlikely to be a prehistoric cupmark due to its depth in relation to its width. It is more probable that it was created with metal tools for a functional use, such as holding a metal fence post. Previous Notes "NF86SW 5 8170 6017. (NF 8169 6019) A large cupmark has been found on a level outcrop of rock some 150 yards SSE of Teampull na Trionaid (NF86SW 32) and 30 yards WNW of the crofter's house nearest the 'Temple'. J D Lyford-Pike 1941. This boulder was located at NF 8170 6017. It is roughly pear-shaped, lying NE to SW, with its narrow end to the NE. It measures 1.7m long by 1.1m wide and is 0.4m high. On its flat exposed top and towards its SW end is a large single cupmark 4" in diameter and 3" deep. Surveyed at 1/2500. Visited by OS (W D J) 1 June 1965." NF86SW 5 8170 6017.
