  • White Paper [PDF]
A Decentralized, Free-Market Collectible Card Game www.volitionccg.com 11 June 2018 Volition is a collectible card game in which booster packs are mined, game asset ownership is tracked on a blockchain and the cost of all transactions is determined by a free market. Volition uses a print-on-demand digital-to-physical hybrid approach in which card owners can print assets directly from their collections. This is a first of its kind: a physically playable, digitally collectible card game with decentralized distribution and true asset ownership. Why? Collectability has historically been most meaningful in the context of physical products. For example, baseball cards, rare books, and vintage toys. These assets exist in the real world. They can be truly and fully owned by their holders, and transacted freely. Digital collectibility is also compelling, but is often limited to an ecosystem controlled entirely by one party (such as a publisher) who enforces ownership rules and controls transactions. Because of this reliance on a third party, holders of these assets cannot truly “own” them. The publisher can change the transaction rules or revoke ownership at any time. And if the server infrastructure shuts down, those assets are gone forever. The emergence of blockchain technology offers an interesting new paradigm for creating digital collectibles. Thanks to permissionless consensus protocols, holders of digital collectibles may now be said to truly own them. They may be transacted freely without depending on a single third party, and the assets will exist as long as the ledger does. Our thesis is that once “true” ownership of an asset exists digitally, its physical manifestation can become superfluous.

  • The Basics About 'Customizable' Card Games
“You have learned much, young one.” — Darth Vader, The Empire Strikes Back “You’ll find I’m full of surprises.” — Luke Skywalker, The Empire Strikes Back THE BASICS If you loved Star Wars™ when you saw it on the big screen, you won’t be disappointed as the adventure moves from a galaxy far, far away into your own back yard. With the Star Wars™ Customizable Card Game™ (CCG), players battle to control the dual forces of Light and Dark. Opponents use their skill and cunning to manipulate the Force by selecting the locations, characters, weapons and other cards that will test the limits of their talent and luck. How does it work? It’s easy. This game contains two decks of 60 cards: a Light Side deck (with the Rebel symbol on the back) and a Dark Side deck (with the Imperial symbol on the back). One player is the Light Side, the other is the Dark Side. The 60-card deck represents the amount of Life Force available to the player during the course of the game. The elegant design of the game means the cards become a natural scorekeeper; no tokens or counters are necessary. The object? Be the first player to deplete your opponent’s Life Force (when he has no cards left in his deck) and you win. Okay, maybe it’s a little more complicated than this description. But with minimal effort, you’ll master the basics faster than a Jedi Knight! Your Expansion Pack — Also included is an “expansion pack,” a free sample of 15 cards randomly selected from the total set of 324 cards in the Premiere edition.
