Though more races were raced per card the overall nightly handle was $15,000 above similar dates a year ago, final daily average shaded $90,000. Though class animals were absent this spring, first Gordon Tenney then Clayt Smith were able to bring together competitive groups of horses. Racing was impressive. Early on the Mr. 1,000 and the Maine Stakes finals got the meet underway, but into November it survived on just the appeal of Maine racing. Flashy Tone and Tartuf paced wins in 2:02.4, but Luck’s Lazy Lady, Rebecca Jean, Race Me Aggie, Fast Pete, and Armbro Aster were impressive as well. Can you recall a horse being assigned post 10? It’s obvi- ously a rare occurrence, but Southwind Chrome now can claim the distinction. Following two straight wins at the Meadowlands, but neither by any crushing margins, he was assigned post 10 for Friday’s $30,000 Preferred Trot at the Meadowlands. Dexter Dunn will drive. “It is what it is,” said Southwind Chrome’s trainer, Jeff Cul- lipher. “I don’t like it, of course, but he’s been on the front the last two starts and it really wouldn’t hurt my feelings if he races off the pace this time. “But I’m leaving that to Dexter “…he’s been on (Dunn). There’s no one hotter than the front the Dexter right now.” last two starts Prior to teaming up with Dunn, and it really Southwind Chrome broke stride wouldn’t hurt in a Meadowlands Preferred back my feelings if he on Nov. 29. Cullipher said his races off the horse “needs to be handled with pace this time.” finesse. He just got jammed up in —Jeff Cullipher that race and he has a sensitive mouth.” Cullipher is racing 12 horses at the Meadowlands this weekend from his 30-horse New Jersey operation at Gaitway Farm. He recently moved to Gaitway from White Birch. Cullipher and Tom Pollack took the Meadowlands leading Among the horses with Cullipher in Indiana is the Hoosier owner title for the January-August Meadowlands meet and 2-year-old trotting colt champion TJ’s Top Pick.

We know from experience that anyone interested in Standardbred racing and breeding has many questions and concerns. This publication provides basic advice and information for new horse owners or anyone contemplating purchasing a harness horse. The best investment you can make before entering this business is your time. Investigate thoroughly, ask questions, read the trade publications and web sites, attend owner workshops available, and make calls to the various organizations. Owning a Standardbred can be one of the most exhilarating and unique investments you can make but it is also very high risk. There are a nurnber of ways to become involved as an owner and they include everything from buying a horse by yourself to owning a small percentage of a horse with a group of friends. Harness racing allows the opportunity for families to be involved and visiting the stable can be a social outing. Owners can also have the chance to be “hands on” and work at the stable or learn to jog a horse.

IN HARNESS RACING, IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THE VOL. 2 § SATURDAY, OCT. 31, 2020 § FIRST POST 6 PM § 12 CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS § $6 MILLION IN PURSES § 2 EXTRAORDINARY NIGHTS CONFIRMATION RECEIPT-BREEDER’SIt CROWN All PARTY TENTComes Down to the Crown Greetings, Thank you for joining us for the 37th edition of the Breeders Crown, harness racing’s $6 million championship event, at Harrah’s Hoosier Park Racing & Casino. We are pleased and honored to bring the Breeders Crown back to the midwest and back to Indiana for the second time in the last five years. Hosting this event is a privilege and certainly a recognition of the hard work and dedication from our horsemen and horsewomen throughout the state. We value and appreciate the partnerships between Caesars Entertainment and The Hambletonian Society, The Indiana Standardbred Association, Indiana Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana, Indiana Horsemen’s Benevolent Association and Protection Association, the Indiana Horse Racing Commission, the Indiana Legislature and of course, our racing fans and entire Harrah’s Hoosier Park team. Together, we have elevated the Indiana racing industry to new heights as witnessed by the success of the 2017 Breeders Crown event. This year has certainly presented its unique set of challenges but our team has remained committed to hosting a safe and exciting event for everyone to enjoy. This weekend, we are welcoming a reduced number of racing fans to Harrah’s Hoosier Park but will welcome thousands more watching from across the world. The stage is set and we are elated to showcase the best the sport of harness racing has to offer as they vie to solidify their place in Breeders Crown history.
