Innovating University-Education Book.Pdf Makerere University started in 1922 as a humble technical school enrolling Innovating University Education 14 day students of Carpentry, Building and Mechanics. Nine decades later, the University has made giant strides–enrolling over 35,000 students in Innovating over 145 study programmes hosted by nine colleges spread across various campuses. As one of the the first higher education institutions in East and Central Africa, the university has had to contend with a multiplicity of issues, including relevance, curricula reform, community engagement and graduate employability; access, equity, massification and quality assurance; University Education national politics, regulation, institutional autonomy and academic freedom; Issues in Contemporary African Higher Education funding and financial management; student politics and activism; staff unionisation, management and brain drain; physical resources expansion, utilisation and maintenance; liberalisation, privatisation, commercialisation A Book in Honour of Makerere University’s 90 Years of Excellence 1922–2012 and internationalisation; Information and Communication Technology (ICT); and institutional leadership and integrity. Today, the University stands out proudly as a hallmark of innovation and excellence in teaching, research and community engagement, notwithstanding the challenges it has experienced over the years. As it celebrates 90 years, the higher education scholarly and Issues in Contemporary African Higher Education policy fraternity take the opportunity to honour and continue the University’s tradition of scholarship and innovation–through contributing ideas for dealing with some of the challenges that the University and similar institutions are contending with. Although studies of Makerere University have been included, it must be understood that this book is not necessarily about the University. Additional studies have been drawn from Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania and other institutions in Uganda. Jude Ssempebwa (PhD) is an Associate Professor of Higher Education Studies and Management at the East African School of Higher Education Studies and Development, College of Education and External Studies, Makerere University. He is also the Editor of Makerere Journal of Higher Education and the founding editor of Uganda Martyrs University Book Series. Peter Neema-Abooki (PhD) is an Associate Professor of Higher Education Studies and the founding dean of the East African School of Higher Education Studies and Development, College of Education and External Studies, Makerere University. The study examines the Internet usage and regulations in Niger Delta University Libraries. The descriptive research design was used for this study. 404 Internet users were randomly selected from the libraries on three campuses of Niger Delta University. The questionnaire method of data collection was employed and complemented by interviews. Findings of the study are: the Internet services in the library are functional and accessible to all users. There are no Internet regulations in the libraries. The Internet services in the library are not geared only toward educational purpose but patrons use it for other personal activities and visiting other websites as well. It is recommended that there should be an Internet regulation policy in the library. These regulations will guide students on the use of the Internet. Students should be given passwords in order to gain access to the Internet so that its usage can be monitored. I. Introduction The Internet, as an information source, is uniquely important to the library. It allows the library to provide information beyond the confines of its own collections. Libraries provide the Internet access to support the teaching, learning, and research activities.     A PAPER ON HIGHER EDUCATION IN UGANDA BY MAURICE A. MUHWEZI-MURARI 1 1.0 Higher education in Uganda The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) defines Higher education as the education offered to post advanced level certificate or its equivalent. This is the context within which this paper is prepared though it is generally premised on University education. The prominence of the state in the Education Sector generally and the Higher Education Sub sector has subsisted since the colonial period when Makerere started as a technical school in 1922. The state has since continued to support, fund and control the sub sector in a number of ways including enacting laws and policies to govern the sector. In 1937, the de La Warr Commission recommended that Makerere College be turned into a University College and that secondary schools should be placed at an education level or standard required to produce candidates for entering Makerere College as an institution of higher education offering post-school certificate courses. In 1940, the Thomas Education Committee also recommended the involvement of the government in financing the schools. These recommendations were given the force of law by the Education Ordinance in 1942 (Magara, 2009). In 1949, Makerere College by an Act of Parliament was uplifted to a constituent college of the University of London. The findings of the Binns Study Group in 1951 and the de Bunsen Education Committee in 1952, enhanced the co-ordination and supervision of the education system in the country and also contributed to the Education Ordinance of 1959 that provided for universal education.

We developed a 35‑year standardized prediction estimates for gynecological lesions using data obtained from an integrated specialist hospital serving the residence of the oil and gas exploration and production City of Port Harcourt and the surrounding areas of Niger Delta, Nigeria. Methods: The study participants comprised of 697 females who received medical care at the Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital (BMSH), Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, between 2010 and 2014. Predictive modeling of the diseases was performed using JMP statistical discovery™ software, version 12.0 (SAS Institute, Cary, NC, USA). Results: The distribution of the gynecological lesions (n = 697) differed significantly (P < 0.001) by year of diagnosis, developmental stage, age category, and types of lesion. The mean age of study participants was 39.1 ± 12.8 years, and most of the lesions (61.8%) occurred among females who were 30‑ to 49‑year old.
