(November 3, 2016) – Mazda has confirmed the eight finalists for the 11th annual Mazda Road to 24 Shootout. This post-season shootout will award a $100,000 Mazda Motorsports scholarship to compete in the 2017 Battery Tender Mazda Global MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich Tires. The 2016 Shootout will take place November 15-16, 2016 at the NOLA Motorsports Park, in Avondale, Louisiana. Winning a club racing championship with Mazda power is the primary entry channel into the Mazda Road to 24 Shootout. Two dozen racers were eligible for the shootout based upon success with the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), the National Auto Sport Association (NASA), Teen Mazda Challenge, Formula Car Challenge or iRacing. These racers were then invited to submit a written and video proposal from which the finalists were selected. MORE THAN 50 RISING OPEN-WHEEL STARS FROM AROUND THE WORLD HEAD TO THE INDY F1 CIRCUIT FOR THE 2013 MAZDA ROAD TO INDY PRE-SEASON TEST Indianapolis Motor Speedway / October 9, 2012 – A Who's Who of rising open-wheel stars from around the world – more than 50 in all – are headed to the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the second annual Chris Griffis Memorial Mazda Road to Indy Open Test, Oct. 10-11. This unique pre-season 'audition' that brings together the stars of tomorrow together with teams from the USF2000, Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear and Firestone Indy Lights ladder series is fast becoming the premier event for young drivers serious about advancing their motorsports careers. Several of the drivers will be taking part in the test with scholarship funding from the Mazda Road to Indy, the official driver development program of IndyCar. Included are Antti Buri, the Finnish driver who won the 2012 British Formula Ford Championship; he will receive a full test day in a USF2000 Championship car and one full day in a Star Mazda Championship car fielded by 2011 Star Mazda championship winners JDC Motorsports. Also testing with backing from the Mazda Road to Indy are top drivers from the Latam Challenge Series, a VW-based formula car series in Mexico, including series leader Francisco Cerullo (also the 2008 Venezuelan F2000 champion), Costa Rican racer André Solano (the 2009 Latam champion), and Juan Camilo Acosta of Cali, Colombia. The trio will test with Team GDT. In addition to the scholarship drivers, teams will be testing a variety of drivers hoping to become part of the Mazda Road to Indy. -

Trying to develop American talent Page 1 of 4 Trying to develop American talent Jeannie Broussal | Posted: Wednesday, August 24, 2011 10:52 pm With the influx of international drivers into the IndyCar Series during the 1980s, American drivers are now the minority in a series they once dominated. There are several reasons for this turnaround. When international drivers — who had no place to move up in their homelands — saw an opportunity to compete in a world class series in the United States, they began migrating to IndyCar. With the emergence of NASCAR, more young American drivers decided to turn to stock cars. Another reason is many young American drivers became confused about which step to take after competing in go-karts to get to IndyCar. Some made mistakes that put them way behind in their careers, and some gave up altogether. Tony George, Jr., the manager of business development for Firestone Indy Lights and the Mazda Road to Indy Program, talked about why he thinks there are not more American drivers in IndyCar. “It’s all about relevant training and experience for those who want to make it in open-wheel racing. A lot of grassroots motorsports didn’t change with the times with regards to new technology. When grassroots drivers are getting out-of-date training, it won’t take them to IndyCar,” George said. With the recent formation of the “Road to Indy” program, there is a much clearer path for would-be IndyCar race drivers. The program is fully funded by Mazda USA. "The racers start off the weekend qualifying and racing in two heat races," stated Series Official Ben Hettema. Simona de Silvestro January 9, 1988 - Present Nationality: Swiss and Italian Raced: 1998 - Present Background: Simona de Silvestro was born in Thun, Switzerland in 1988. Her interest in motor sports began early in her life and by age ten she was already racing competitively. She participated in the Western Switzerland Championship in 1998, 1999, and 2000, and spent her next few years kart-racing throughout Europe and competing in the Italian Formula Renault 2000 series. De Silvestro moved to the United States in 2006 to pursue her racing career and she made history that year by becoming the first woman to earn a podium result at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Walker Racing signed her to their team in November 2006, and in April 2007 she began her rookie year racing in the Atlantic Championship, America's top open-wheel driver development series. She joined Newman Wachs Racing in 2008, and earned her first victory in the series. De Silvestro spent the 2009 season racing with Team Stargate Worlds. With four wins, she was point leader throughout much of the year and came very close to winning the Atlantic Championship title. She was knocked out of the running on October 11th after her car tangled with Markus Niemela’s at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Had she won the title, she would have become the first woman to do so in the Atlantic Championship’s 36-year history. Early Influences: De Silvestro has always had the desire to race. Her passion for the sport can be attributed to her father’s love of it. -

TITLE FIGHT DECIDED AT SONOMA: The Verizon IndyCar Series championship has only two eligible drivers, but the championship lead has belonged to one driver since early in the season. Simon Pagenaud took control of the championship standings following a torrid start to 2016 with five finishes of first or second in the first five races and carries a 43-point advantage over Will Power into the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma. Pagenaud can win the title with a finish of fourth or better. The Verizon IndyCar Series championship will be the fourth major sports title clinched in Northern California this year alongside the NFL Championship (Denver Broncos defeated Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 in Santa Clara), NBA championship (Cleveland Cavaliers defeated Golden State Warriors in Oakland) and NHL Stanley Cup Championship (Pittsburgh Penguins defeated San Jose Sharks in San Jose). TOASTING TEAM PENSKE’S SUCCESS: Team Penske looks to add to its dominance at Sonoma Raceway. The team, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2016, has won five of the last eight races at the track and won the pole position six times. Introducing Derrick Walker, incoming President of SCCA Pro Racing Derrick is new to SCCA Pro, but he’s been around racing a bit. Some 40 years ago he got his start working with the Brabham Formula One team – the owner was Bernie Ecclestone. He went on to become a team manager and owner himself. His teams have won the Indy 500 at least 4 times. Prior to joining SCCA Pro he was Director of Operations for IndyCar. SCCA PRO RACING HISTORY AND CONTINUED SUCCESS Although the concept of SCCA Pro Racing dates from the mid 1950’s, our on track history dates back more than 40 years ago with the creation of the United States Road Racing Championship in 1963. From these beginnings grew the Can-Am Challenge, Trans Am, Formula 5000 through the 1960’s and 70’s. SCCA Pro Racing today is continuing to sanction, officiate and organize a wide variety of highly successful professional race series that showcase some of the best racing not only in this country, but in the world. THE SCCA PRO RACING SERIES AND INTERNATIONAL INVOLVEMENT Pirelli World Challenge is the showcase for some of the most sophisticated GT cars in the world. It enjoys tremendous manufacturer involvement and this year is aligned with the Blancpain GT series. -

Patrick Long’s & Sebastien Bourdais’ Comments About the 8th Annual Kart 4 Kids Pro-Am Kart Race It’s only fitting that this year’s 8th annual Kart 4 Kids charity karting event takes place just a few steps from the entrance of Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St Pete. It’s also just a stone’s throw from Dan Wheldon Way. Each year the event grows, the funds raised increase, and the awareness around a special hospital and a group of kids accelerate. Thank you to our hosts, all of the sponsors, partners, donors, pro drivers, and especially the large committee of great volunteers who make the production of this event happen. This event started off as a humble gathering, with the goal of raising a few dollars in the name of Dan Wheldon for the Hospital. Dan was a St. Pete resident, and someone who had a lot of time for All Children’s. We continue to race in his memory and smile as status and organization of this gathering continues to reach new boundaries! A few milestones were reached in 2018 for Kart for Kids. We managed to donate 130k$ to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, bring the event downtown and reinforce the involvement of the community and sponsors thanks to our amazing group of volunteers. The response from the racing community was no less impressive, with many drivers from different series donating their apparel and time. 2019 will be no less impressive and I want to thank each and every individual for their continued support. -
