Property

Summerhill Lodge is a beautifully situated four bedroom property, perched high on the hills looking towards the coast and Dover Castle. Arranged over a single storey, the house has many lovely characteristics including high ceilings, large windows, well-proportioned rooms and amazing views.

The property is entered through a large porch into a spacious hallway or TV room and continues into a very generous kitchen/diner which is the main part of the bungalow, this leads into a sun room as well through into the master bedroom with dressing room and en suite shower room. There are three further double bedrooms, one with en-suite shower facilities as well as the family bathroom. At the front of the property there is a choice of reception rooms with a sitting room and a conservatory both enjoying wonderful views.

The property offers a fantastic opportunity to own a charming family home in a very special, tucked away location. There is a substantial loft which, with planning, offers a fantastic opportunity for extra accommodation to be created and take full advantage of the spectacular view.

Summerhill Lodge sits well in its garden which, behind the house, is arranged as two landscaped lawn terraces from which the magnificent woodland and countryside views can be enjoyed. To the front the lawn is bordered by woodland and has a pebbled driveway leading to the detached double garage.

Summerhill Lodge is situated on the outskirts of Temple Ewell village. The surrounding area is designated either as a Special Landscape Area and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are shops in Temple Ewell and River and superstores at Whitfield, with Canterbury providing a wider range of facilities. Locally there are good schools, both in the independent and state sectors.

The property has excellent road and rail communications. The High Speed service to London St Pancras can be accessed from Dover Priory as well as the Channel Tunnel at Folkestone and Ashford International.

Our Time Here

We first came across Summerhill Lodge on a dog walk, and saw it was for sale and knew it was the house for us. We have lived here 28 years. It is on a very private plot which you approach through woodland, leaving the town behind you and we have just one neighbouring house. Everything is peaceful in this very rural, countryside setting – we are spoilt by astonishing views of Dover Castle, harbour and across the to France.

There is nothing quite like relaxing in the sunroom at the back of the house, and taking in the views throughout the different seasons of the year. We can spend hours looking out and listening to the birdsong. The back of our house is south facing. When the morning mists comes in and fills the valley all you can see is Dover Castle and the top of the hills, a truly amazing picture. We enjoy eating in the sunroom, there is plenty of versatile space which lends itself very well to entertaining. We love the produce and flowers from our main greenhouse, you can grow almost anything in there, which is something we will miss when we move.

We overlook the Valley, and have always had dogs. It’s great to step out of the door to walk them in the woodland areas and fields. Despite being rural the town centre is within a 15-minute drive, and there are highly rated schools for all ages nearby.

It is a different way of life at Summerhill Lodge, you can be as busy or relaxed as you please. Busy in the garden or relaxing watching birds including long tailed tits, marsh tits and spotted woodpeckers, listening to the family of buzzards calling in the valley.

Temple Ewell is a vibrant community. Putting on theatrical productions during the year. A busy village , serving food and a post office and store. There are many beautiful walks around this area. You are spoilt for choice. Temple Ewell Downs are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as is the Alkham Valley. Scotland Common is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. A really lovely place to live.
