THE PARISHES OF BRANDESTON AND KETTLEBURGH Dear Friends I have been thinking about what some people call the Global Village in which we live. China has frequently featured in the media in recent months. As I write, news of the preparations for the Olympic Games, the journey of the flame and expressions of concern for the well-being of the Tibetan people have been almost completely superseded by horrific images of the earthquake that has ravaged Sichuan Province and caused almost unimaginable casualties, wiping out established towns and villages. And there is another disaster that has caught our attention; a crippling cyclone, whose impact on the Irrawaddy Delta region of Burma is causing a death-toll which, so relief agencies and experts from elsewhere in the world say, will continue to rise if Burma’s oppressive regime does not allow them open access to the devastated areas. From Southern Africa, dreadful stories continue to emerge, following the still- unresolved elections in Zimbabwe, of merciless political oppression being visited upon an entirely helpless population despite the attempts of the regime to prevent the news getting out. And we hear that Beirut seems set for another summer of violence as the turmoil and agony of the Palestinian people boils over and can no longer be contained within the West Bank and Gaza City. And so the stories go on. We may be tempted to shut our ears to this summer of horror. After all, if we are looking for bad news, we don’t have to go to the other side of the world to find it. -

Funding for the Defibrillator will be covered under item 7. Finance on the Agenda. Bill Searle asked if a play space area on The Green, Mill Hill, Aldringham could be considered. 1. MINUTES Minutes of the Parish Council Meeting held on 26th November 2018 were signed as a true record by the Chairman. 4. REPORTS a) SUFFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL – COUNCILLOR RUSS RAINGER Russ reported on the Sizewell C Consultation which is currently running from 4th January until Friday 29th March 2019. The Stage 3 Consultation - Suffolk Coastal District Council and Suffolk County Council are inviting representatives from Councils to attend a joint event on Tuesday 22nd January 2019 at High Lodge, Darsham. Russ has arranged for a site meeting this coming Wednesday 9th January at 10.00 am representatives from Anglian Water Company and SCC Highways will make further investigations on the flood problem on Aldringham Lane. The faulty Street Light in Thorpeness - UK Power Network has been and carried out repair work, unfortunately it is still out of action. Russ offered to look into this. SUFFOLK COASTAL DISTRICT COUNCIL – COUNCILLORS MAUREEN JONES & T.J. HAWORTH-CULF Suffolk Coastal Final Draft Local Plan The Suffolk Coastal Final Draft Local Plan is a comprehensive Local Plan for the District for the period 2018 to 2036. -

Abstract This paper examines the siting and construction of a Magnox nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast. The station was initially welcomed by local politicians as a solution to unemployment but was criticised by an organised group of local communist activists who predicted how the restriction zone would restrict future development. Oral history interviews provide insights into conditions on the construction site and the social effects on the nearby town. Archive material reveals the spatial and development restrictions imposed with the building of the power station, which remains on the shoreline as a monument to the ‘atomic age’. This material is contextualised in the longer economic and social history of a town that moved from the shadow of nineteenth century paternalistic industry into the glare of the nuclear construction program and became an early example of the eclipsing of local democracy by the centralised nuclear state. -

www.gov.uk/englandcoastpath England Coast Path Stretch: Aldeburgh to Hopton-on-Sea Report AHS 2: Sizewell to Dunwich Part 2.1: Introduction Start Point: Sizewell beach car park (grid reference: TM 4757 6300) End Point: Dingle Marshes south, Dunwich (grid reference: TM 4735 7074) Relevant Maps: AHS 2a to AHS 2e 2.1.1 This is one of a series of linked but legally separate reports published by Natural England under section 51 of the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949, which make proposals to the Secretary of State for improved public access along and to this stretch of coast between Aldeburgh to Hopton-on-Sea. 2.1.2 This report covers length AHS 2 of the stretch, which is the coast between Sizewell and Dunwich. It makes free-standing statutory proposals for this part of the stretch, and seeks approval for them by the Secretary of State in their own right under section 52 of the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949. 2.1.3 The report explains how we propose to implement the England Coast Path (“the trail”) on this part of the stretch, and details the likely consequences in terms of the wider ‘Coastal Margin’ that will be created if our proposals are approved by the Secretary of State. Our report also sets out: any proposals we think are necessary for restricting or excluding coastal access rights to address particular issues, in line with the powers in the legislation; and any proposed powers for the trail to be capable of being relocated on particular sections (“roll- back”), if this proves necessary in the future because of coastal change. -

CRATFIELD NEWS April 2019 1 Hello and Welcome A very warm welcome to Vanessa, Andrew, Will and John, who along with Eddie the dog have recently moved into no.6 The Street, Maddie Gallop now of 2 Boxbush Cottages and also to Nicky and Bruce who have come to live at Hill View on Bell Green. We hope they will be very happy here in Cratfield. THE VINTAGE TRACTORS ARE BACK! Once again, the annual vintage tractor run will stop at Cratfield vil- lage hall for tea and cakes before departing en masse. It's a spectacular sight! Arrival time for the convoy is approximately 12.30pm on Easter Monday, April 22 nd . The time could be a little earlier or later, depending on traffic as they muster at Flixton a few miles away. Everyone is welcome to come along and see them and to enjoy the refreshments, proceeds from which will go to St. Martin's Housing Trust. Please note they don't stay much above and hour in Cratfield. 2 Please think of pedestrians and do not park on the pavements in Cratfield! 3 Laxfield Produce, Craft and Flea Market Saturday 6 th April 9.30am -12.00pm inside All Saint's Church and in the Royal Oak, and outside on Church Plain The organisers of the Market have been really pleased with continued support from both stallholders and customers over the winter months, turnout has been very good despite at times doubtful weather conditions. The additional all -year - round opening has certainly proved very popular. No doubt an Easter theme will be heavily featured at April's Market, with it being just under two weeks away. -
