However, it is a pleasure to spend a few hours extra in doing this added chore. In this brochure we have tried to bring things up-to-date that aren't in the pre-season booklet. You will find such things as final 10-game statis tics, post-season honors won by Clemson players, a few words on the coaches and other pertinent in formation which should make your coverage of this Orange Bowl a little easier. You will find column notes and other facts about the team. We could by no means answer all of the questions that will come up so feel free to contact me at anytime for other information. The Tigers will move into Miami about noon Thursday, December 27, and will be quartered at the Biltmore Terrace Hotel on the beach. Our schedule will call for a workout each day at the University of Miami prior to the game and the traveling party will leave Miami Thursday, Janu ary 3, for the return trip to Clemson. For more detailed information, call us. We'll do our best to help. Bob Bradley Looking back on '56 • • Nearly everyone around the Atlantic Coast Con ference with any football savvy tagged the Clem son Tigers as the ''darkhorse'' of the loop back in September. Hardly anyone figured that the Coun try Gentlemen would be the conference r€pre• sentative in the Orange Bowl January 1. Even Head Coach Frank Howard ''couldn't taste orange juice unless our sophomores come through for us.'> As the weeks in September, October and Novem ber ticked away the Tigers put win on top of win ,and when the final game with Furman December 1 was over the Men of Calhoun had dropped only lone contest, tied two others and were victorious in seven. Their 4-0-1 standing in the conference was good enough for the championship and the ACC representatives voted to send the Tigers to Miami to meet Colorado of the Big Seven. After the smashing 21-6 victory over Virginia Tech Clemson climbed to the 11th in the n,ation. However, the following week the 6-6 tie with Maryland dropped them to 13th and Miami's stun ning 21-0 setback dropped ''Howard's Bunch'' com- , pletely out of the top 20. It was after the two final wins over Virginia and Furman that the Tigers entered the best-of-the-best circle and in the final weekly poll were 19th. The Buffs were just be hind il1 20th. After the 27-7 win over Presbyterian in the open er, the Tigers went to Gainesville to battle the highly-rated, two touchdown favorite Florida Gators. Looking their best on offense in the first quarter, the Tigers bounded into a 14-0 lead, then in the third quarter trailed 20-14. In the final quarter with time running out Clemson scored the tieing tally for a 20-20 deadlock. N. C. State gave the Tigers a rough battle and finally went down, 13-7 as all of the scoring was done in the final quarter on a foggy, rainy night. Wake Forest felt the Tigers' claw and the Country Gentlemen triumphed 17-0. In the third straight conference game, arch rival South Carolina sel dom budged a stout defense thrown up and Clem son edged by 7-0. Virginia Tech, Maryland and Miami hit on suc cessive weekends and the Tigers experienced their toughest three games of the year. When the smoke had cleared Clemson managed a 1-1-1 from this trio and the Orange Bowl hopes were quivering. But those two last wins over Virginia and Furman zeroed things in. • THE BOWL 'CHARITY' SERIES the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) Plays a Major Role in the World of College Athletics. Every
THE BOWL ‘CHARITY’ SERIES The Bowl Championship Series (BCS) plays a major role in the world of college athletics. Every year, the BCS decides the NCAA Division I football National Champion. The BCS is comprised of four “Bowl Organizations” that each enjoy 501(c)(3) tax exempt status as charitable public benefit organizations, and each has done so since World War II. These Bowl Organizations are the Rose Bowl, the Sugar Bowl, the Orange Bowl, and the Fiesta Bowl. The IRS, in their Letters of Recognition of 501(c)(3) status to each Bowl Organization, states that the public benefit these organizations offer is “educational.” Despite being considered “charitable” organizations for tax purposes, the BCS Bowl Organizations are currently under attack for instead serving private interests. Although the actual percentage of revenues a “charitable” organization donates to charitable causes is not a true indicia of being considered a “charitable organization” for 501(c)(3) status, it is a good measurement to compare with an organization’s other expenditures. In 2011, the BCS held 23 bowl games that produced $186.3 million. The total charitable contribution for the BCS was $3.2 million, or a mere 1.7% of revenue. When considering whether a Bowl Organization fails the private inurement requirement of the operational test for 501(c)(3) status, it will not “look good” if the organization paid its Executive Officers more in salary and benefits than money they donated to charitable causes.1 The most criticized Bowl Organization of the four is surely the Fiesta Bowl. In the last Fiesta Bowl on January 2013, the Oregon Ducks defeated the Kansas State Wildcats in Glendale, AZ.

The Bustle File Bustle’s Cajuns have won six games in three of the past four seasons, a stretch not equaled since UL was a member of the Big West Conference from 1993-95. In fact, since the 2005 season, only three Sun Belt schools can boast three six-win seasons. Coach Bustle was victorious 23 times in his first five seasons with the Cajuns Head Coach from 2002-06, including 11 of the last 17 games. UL won only nine games in the five seasons prior to Bustle’s arrival from 1997-2001. Clemson, ‘76 Bustle saw his winning percentage increase each of the first four seasons since Eighth Season taking the job in 2002, but regressed to .500 in 2006. His 6-6 record in 2006 was only deemed a regression because of the high standards and raised levels of Personal expectations by the Cajuns and their fans. In fact, Bustle’s 12 wins from 2005-06 Born: August 23, 1953 were the most in a two-year period since 1994-95. One of Bustle’s proudest moments was watching four-time All-Sun Belt Hometown: Summerville, S.C. selection and 2008 SBC Player of the Year, Tyrell Fenroy, become just the seventh Wife: Lynn player in NCAA history to rush for 1,000 yards in four consecutive seasons.
