Roberto de Mattei’s New Book Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira: Prophet of the Reign of Mary Preface by Bishop Athanasius Schneider 2019 xii 334 pages / sewn hardback $20.00 #55068 In the year after the death of Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira on October 3, 1995, Roberto de Mattei wrote a biography of the Brazilian Catholic leader, to which he appropriately gave the title The Crusader of the 20th Century. As a biographical work, it was followed in 2010 by a specifically historical work, destined to extend Prof. de Mattei’s influence throughout the Catholic world as a prominent Catholic historian, and to provide historical perspective for the life of Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira. That second work, relating to the history of the Church in our time, was The Second Vatican Council: An Unwritten Story, an account of the Council that included references to the role of Prof. Corrêa de Oliveira, who had worked during the first session of the Council assisting the bishops who formed the International Group of Fathers, the Coetus Internationalis Patrum. (See “Roberto de Mattei,” continued on page 2.) Pro-Abortion Catholic Politicians and Bishop Juan Rodolfo Laise’s Defense of the Holy Eucharist HOLY COMMUNION Communion in the Hand: Documents & History Some Reflections on Spiritual Communion and the State of Grace Preface by Bishop Athanasius Schneider When Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York recently signed into law radical new abortion legislation, many began to talk about the possibility of excommunication. Asked about this consideration, Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger of the diocese of Albany, the location of the New York State legislature, mentioned in an interview with Fox News that there are other forms of separation from the Church, citing the fact that certain Catholics, because of their actions, are not properly disposed to receive Communion. However, several years ago, before Bishop Scharfenberger became the Ordinary of the diocese of Albany, Governor Cuomo received Communion in the cathedral in Albany, causing widespread scandal, and leaving unanswered the question of how Bishop Scharfenberger’s principle is applied.
