2019 Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship Fact Sheet

History of the Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship  Launched in 2018, the event is owned and operated by Intersport, an award-winning, Chicago- based innovator and leader in the creation of live sporting events.  The tournament consists of 32, four-man teams representing each Division I conference.  A player selection committee, which includes a variety of college media members from leading outlets across the country, helps identify the best eligible players in the nation to compete in the Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship.  All participating players are seniors who have exhausted their college eligibility.  The event allows players to compete for prize money for their efforts on the basketball court for the first time.  In 2018, the Big Ten team of Purdue’s Vincent Edwards, Indiana’s Robert Johnson, Minnesota’s Nate Mason and Ohio State’s Jae’Sean Tate took home the inaugural 3X3U title.  The Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship will follow FIBA 3x3 rules: o Games played on a half court o 12-second o One point per basket inside the arc, two points per basket behind the arc o First team to 21 points or the team leading after 10 minutes is the winner  In collaboration with USA Basketball, Intersport enlists the help of 3x3 national team members to educate participants on 3x3 rules and strategy to provide for the best in-game experience.  Officiating coordinator Glenn Tuitt, the first FIBA-certified 3x3 official in the United States, secures qualified referees to officiate the Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship.

About the 2019 Tournament  The 2019 Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship will take place April 5-7 at historic Mall of America in Minneapolis, site of this year’s national championship weekend.  It will be just the second live sporting event to be televised at Mall of America, with the first being the inaugural WCW Monday Nitro in September 1995.  Games will be streamed live on Twitter at @3X3UHoops or televised live on ESPN2.  The 32-team field will be divided into eight groups, and 48 pool play games will be played on April 5-6, with all games streamed live on Twitter.  The top two teams in each group will advance to the final day of the event on April 7.  The final day will feature Round of 16 and quarterfinal games streamed on Twitter, and semifinal, consolation and championship contests televised live on ESPN2.  A $150,000 prize pool is at stake throughout the tournament o $1,000 goes to each team for a win during pool play (48 pool play games) o $2,000 goes to the team finishing as the runner up o $100,000 goes to the 2019 champion, double the prize money from 2018  The winning team will also earn an automatic berth in USA Basketball’s 3x3 Open National Championship. There, athletes will have the opportunity to be selected to represent the United States in the 2019 FIBA 3x3 , held June 18-23 in , .
