CapitaMalls Asia and CapitaMalls Malaysia Trust launch drive to raise up to RM100,000 for underprivileged children in Malaysia

Rainbow Project is part of initiatives to donate up to RM310,000 to charity in Malaysia this year

Kuala Lumpur, 8 August 2011 – CapitaMalls Asia Limited and CapitaMalls Malaysia REIT Management Sdn. Bhd. (CMRM), the manager of CapitaMalls Malaysia Trust, are pleased to launch today a fundraising drive at three of their shopping malls in Malaysia – Gurney Plaza in Penang, Sungei Wang Plaza in Kuala Lumpur and The Mines in Selangor. Named “Rainbow Project”, the drive aims to raise up to RM100,000 for two homes under The Budimas Charitable Foundation, a charity foundation supporting more than 500 orphaned and underprivileged children in 10 charitable homes in Malaysia. The fundraising drive was launched at The Mines today.

The fundraising drive aims to raise RM50,000 through donations from the public in the three shopping malls. CapitaLand Hope Foundation (CHF) – the philanthropic arm of CapitaLand, which supports programmes for the shelter, education and healthcare needs of underprivileged children in countries where CapitaLand operates – will match the funds donated by the public ringgit-for-ringgit up to RM50,000. As such, CapitaMalls Asia and CapitaMalls Malaysia Trust target to raise a total of RM100,000 for Persatuan Kebajikan Darul Najjah in Kuala Lumpur and Persatuan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Islam (Perempuan) in Penang, which are supported by The Budimas Charitable Foundation. The funds raised will be used to provide food and shelter for 60 children at the homes.

Rainbow Project will run from today until 31 October 2011. Throughout the fundraising drive period, the public can make donations at the following locations:  Information counter of Gurney Plaza from 10 am to 10 pm daily;  Promotional booth at concourse level of Sungei Wang Plaza from 11 am to 7 pm on weekends starting 30 August 2011; and  Information counter of The Mines from 10 am to 10 pm daily.

“Rainbow Project is our second corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative in Malaysia this year. Last month, we launched “My Home Sweet Home”, where we donated money to refurbish roofs and re-tile and construct new washrooms for three charity homes – Yayasan Sunbeam Homes in Cheras; Ozanam Home in Petaling Jaya; and The Children Protection Society in Penang . About 100 of our staff also volunteered to help paint walls and murals at the homes.”

“In December, we will launch “My Schoolbag” in Malaysia. This is CapitaMalls Asia’s signature annual CSR programme, where new schoolbags with stationery and daily necessities are donated to underprivileged children starting their first year in primary schools. We are pleased to roll out My Schoolbag in Malaysia, as the culmination of our CSR initiatives for this year.”

Information on The Budimas Charitable Foundation and its two beneficiary homes under Rainbow Project The Budimas Charitable Supports more than 500 orphaned and underprivileged children in Foundation 10 charitable homes throughout the country. Budimas recently established its own shelter home, which currently cares for 18 underprivileged children.

Persatuan Kebajikan Darul Founded in December 2006 by Puan Hajjah Aminah binti Mat, this Najjah Kuala Lumpur home cares for Malay and Orang Asli orphans and underprivileged children aged between 11 and 17 years old. The home currently has 17 boys.

Persatuan Kebajikan Anak- Founded in 1985 by Dato’ Haji Mohd Yusoff , the main objective of Anak Yatim Islam this home is to care, nurture, develop and educate Muslim orphans (Perempuan), Penang in Penang. It is home to 35 girls aged between 9 and 17 years old who are either orphans or abandoned by single parents, or were abused.
