2015-16 MEDIA GUIDE 1 On Aug. 18, 2014, the United States Military Academy hosted USA Basketball’s Men’s NaƟonal Team as it prepared for the 2014 InternaƟonal Basketball FederaƟon (FIBA) World Cup. In its tour of the Academy, the team visited the West Point Cemetary, witnessed demonstraƟons at the Combat Water Survival Swim Lab in Arvin Gymnasium and ate lunch with cadets at Washington Hall. The tour conƟnued with a walk to Trophy Point, where the team posed for photos. The day ended with a two-hour pracƟce at Christl Arena, where members of Team USA parƟcipated in shooƟng contests with members of Army’s men’s and women’s basketball teams. “You walk around this place and you just feel good about being an American. You feel a liƩle bit more proud of being a USA Basketball player or coach. I love West Point. It is the foundaƟon of who I am.” ͳ DUKE MEN’S BASKETBALL COACH, 1969 WEST POINT GRADUATE MIKE KRZYZEWSKI
MIKE KRZYZEWSKI “Every Ɵme I come back, my appreciaƟon for the Corps of Cadets and what West Point is all about grows. When I come here, I leave with an amazing feeling about the place that people just couldn’t describe.” ͳ ESPN ANALYST JAY BILAS
“To see what the cadets’ day-to-day life is like and to see where most of that service starts is preƩy amazing. They treated us well the whole day and gave us a huge applause in the Mess Hall. This is a day I’ll JAY BILAS remember for a long Ɵme.” ͳ GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS GUARD STEPHEN CURRY
“Having a chance to talk to the cadets and asking why they wanted to be here was a great experience. You watch all the organizaƟon and see the guidelines that everyone lives and operates by and how they work together is a really cool thing to see.” ͳ ATLANTA HAWKS GUARD/FORWARD KYLE KORVER

The building, dedicated Oct. 1, 1988, was named for Maj. Donald W. Holleder (USMA ’56), who was killed in ac on in Vietnam in 1967. While at West Point, Holleder excelled in basketball and football. He earned All-America honors in the la er, and has been enshrined in the College Football Founda on Hall of Fame. Holleder was inducted into the Army Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.
The basketball arena was named for 1st Lt. Edward C. Christl Jr. (USMA ’44), who was killed in Austria in 1945. Elected captain of the basketball team his senior year, Christl led the Cadets to a perfect 15-0 record.
The building is constructed of concrete and steel-framed masonry complete with spectator and support facili es. It contains two concession areas, an Army Athle c Associa on gi shop, cket office, sports medicine room, storage areas and offices for coaching and administra ve personnel for both basketball and hockey programs.
Christl Arena possesses a Horner hardwood basketball Ňoor, which has been refurbished several mes over the past decade. The Ňoor measures 149 x 116 feet. Showers and locker facili es for Army’s men’s and women’s squads, plus three visi ng team locker rooms are located close by. The arena also contains six portable basketball supports and Įxed chair and bench sea ng for spectators.
During the 1999-2000 season, the Academy enhanced patrons’ game-viewing pleasure by replacing the four-sided overhead scoreboard at midcourt with two wall-mounted units. The scoreboards, located on the north and south walls of Christl Arena, feature state-of-the-art signage and digital displays, along with accompanying boards that show player point and foul totals.
Christl Arena hosted quarterĮnal and semiĮnal rounds of the Patriot League men’s and women’s tournament in 1994-95 and again in 1998-99. Christl served as the backdrop for the 2006 and 2014 Patriot League Women’s Tournaments. A er earning the No. 1 seed in the postseason tournament in 2006 and the No. 2 seed in 2014, the Black Knights hosted the quarterĮnal and semiĮnal rounds as well as the championship game. Christl also served as the site for the opening two rounds of the women’s tournament in 2007-08.
During the summer of 2015, Christl Arena underwent a faceli , including a redesigned court and updated concourse, which features new signs and pictures of the Black Knights throughout the years.
The Army women have authored a 231-129 (.642) mark during their 25-year stay at Christl Arena.
