Even though June is APRIL right around the corner, we need to keep our students 10-13 Volunteer Appreciation Week focused and learning through the end of the year, 13 Family Dance Night @4:30pm which was extended to June 21. Please check our 28 SNS - Inservice Day calendar for all of the fun end of year activities that will take place. We would love you to join, if you are MAY able. 01-05 Teachers Appreciation Week 04 PTA Elections @ 6:30pm We will begin state testing in grades 3-5 toward the 08-12 Nurses Appreciation Week end of April. If a student's recorder is lost or broken it will need to be replaced immediately. Students should practice at home for five minutes every day. Recorders should be kept in the student's backpack when not actively being played. Students are asked to bring their recorder with them to music class on music days. RECORDER KARATE: Recorder Karate is a system for students learning to play the recorder. Students earn belts as they progress through the Recorder Karate program. Students have been given Recorder Karate packets for home practice. When a student feels that they have mastered the piece they are working on, they are ready to take a belt test. I am available to work with students on belt tests every morning before school starting at 7:30AM. I can also make appointments with students to do belt tests at other times during the day. Bike riding is a great way to get exercise and fresh air and share time as a family. But before you and the kids rush out and start pedaling, there's an important factor that you need to consider — safety. Helmet Basics Bicycle helmet use should not be optional for anyone in your family, no matter where you are or how short the ride. In Oregon, it's the law. Many bike accidents involve a head injury, so a crash could mean permanent brain damage or death for someone who doesn't wear one while riding. In fact, each year in the United States, about half a million kids are seriously injured in bicycle-related accidents, and most of those injuries could have been avoided if a helmet was worn. To protect against brain injury, make sure your kids wear a correctly fitting helmet on every ride. Here are some things to keep in mind when buying a helmet: •Pick bright colors or fluorescent colors that are visible to drivers and other cyclists. •Look for a helmet that's well ventilated. •Make sure that the helmet has a CPSC or Snell sticker inside. These indicate that the helmet meets standards set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) or the Snell Memorial Foundation, a nonprofit group that tests helmet safety. •Make sure your child's helmet fits correctly and can be adjusted. You should be able to get help finding a well-fitting helmet and adjusting it properly at any bicycle store. When kids wear a helmet, make sure that the straps are fastened. Also make sure they don't wear any other hat underneath it. Be sure to replace any helmet made before 1999. If your child hits any surface hard while wearing a helmet, replace it — helmets lose their capacity to absorb shock after taking serious hits. Head%Lice%Happen% Head%lice%happen,%especially%on%kids.%They%are%not%a%sign%of%poor%hygiene%or%how%clean% your%home%is.%Anyone%can%get%them—doesn’t%matter%how%long%your%hair%is%or%how%much% you%shower.% Does%your%kid%have%head%lice?%Not%everyone%gets%itchy.%Use%a%nit%comb%on%wet%hair%and% look%for%bugs%the%size%of%a%sesame%seed%or%tiny%eggs%glued%to%the%hair.%Make%it%a%weekly& routine&to&check&everyone&in&your&household.%% % Here%are%some%helpful%guidelines%for%treating%head%lice:% ALL TREATMENT STEPS MUST BE DONE ON THE SAME DAY. HOUSE TREATMENT: 1. Vacuum all carpets, floors, mattresses, furniture and the car. Dispose of the vacuum cleaner bag in the outside trash when finished. 2. Wash ALL clothing and bed linens in HOT water. 3. NON-WASHABLE items should be either: dry cleaned, placed in a HOT clothes dryer for 20 minutes (pillows, stuffed toys, etc.), placed in freezer for 48 hours, or sealed in a plastic bag for 14 days. 4. Treat ALL brushes and combs by boiling for 10 minutes OR soaking in lice shampoo for 10 minutes. HAIR TREATMENT: 1. If using commercial lice hair products, treat all affected household members at the SAME TIME. Before application, wash hair with a basic perfume and conditioner free shampoo. 2. Comb hair thoroughly with a clean comb or brush. 3. Remove ALL NITS with a nit comb, fingernails, or tweezers to prevent REINFESTATION by any nits not killed by the medications. 4. Notify all people who have recently been in contact with the exposed household member.

I hope that your experiences with parent teacher conferences were positive ones and you were able to connect with your child’s teacher. The connections between home and school are so very important! Working in partnership is the best way to help our kids reach their potential! Now that fall has officially arrived and the unpredictability of Wisconsin weather is also here, I am asking for your help in making sure that warm clothing is sent to school with your child. It is not a bad idea to make sure that warm jackets, stocking hats, gloves/mittens are being sent with your child to school. Once the snow begins to fly, also make sure that boots and snow pants are making the trip with your child as well. We will continue to go out for recess during cold weather, so please help in making sure that proper clothing is sent with your child. I was informed that Pokemon cards have been around since 1998. That is a long time, and the fad has not faded away! Pokemon and trading cards have been causing some heartaches, tears, and disagreements here at school. I am asking that you please keep these items at home. I want to thank you for your help and support in reporting into our office upon entering the building for visiting within our building.
