Oglethorpe University is home to 16 Division III NCAA sports. OU athletes face fierce competition in the Southern Athletic Association, TEAMS squaring off against opponents from Berry College, MEN WOMEN Birmingham-Southern, Centre College, Hendrix Baseball Basketball College, Millsaps College, Rhodes College, and Basketball Cross Country Cross Country Golf Sewanee: University of the South. The OU Mascot is Petey the Stormy Petrel. Stormy petrels are tough seabirds known for flying low to the ocean, even crashing through waves, to look for food. The stormy petrel is also said to be the inspiration for Oglethorpe’s motto: Nescit Cedere, translated as “He/She does not know how to give up.” Hermance Stadium, which now hosts our baseball games, was INTRAMURAL SPORTS Flag Football once a football venue. Completed Soccer in 1920, its front gates feature the Tennis scores of our historical wins against Dodgeball Georgia and Georgia Tech. Co-ed Volleyball Basketball Dorough Field House, home to the Whiffle Ball basketball and volleyball teams, features a (changes year-to-year) unique “blacktop” surface on its Pinholster Court.
