    Staff 'face misery’ as Sheffield City Trust plan to axe hundreds more jobs 01 Sep 2020 Union says lowest-paid staff shoulder the biggest burden of ‘unfair’ proposals after 79 redundancies at Sheffield Arena and Sheffield City Hall GMB union says a further 200 jobs are at risk at Sheffield City Trust under unfair proposals which have already seen 79 redundancy formal notices issued in the city. Redundancy notices have already been issued across the Trust - including 38 at Sheffield Arena and 41 at Sheffield City Hall. Further plans see more than 200 jobs at risk at sports and leisure venues including Ponds Forge, Ice Sheffield and leisure centres across the city. GMB said it was unfair that the lowest-paid staff were being targeted for redundancy. Only one senior Head of Service post has been subject to “at risk” status. Those staff put on notice could be put at a disadvantage for any potential redeployment across the business after the option to consult with unions across all affected workplaces was not taken up by the Trust, the union warned, adding to calls to extend the consultation period. Sheffield City Trust had informed GMB that they do not have any money in reserves, despite Sheffield City Council making a £15m subsidy available to the Trust just last month. GMB will now campaign along with Sheffield Trades Council and community groups to protect jobs and ensure that the venues open safely for the public to use. Steve Betney (BSc Physics 1965) Thank you This magazine is the result of a request for memories of student life from alumni of The University of Sheffield who graduated in the years 1965 to 1984. The publication provides a glimpse into an interesting period in the University’s history with the rapid expansion of the campus and halls of residence. The eyewitness accounts of the range and quality of bands promoted by the Students’ Union are wonderful testimony to the importance of Sheffield as a city of music. And the activities of students during the Rag Parade and Boat Race would create panic in the Health and Safety Executive if repeated today. I wish to thank everyone who responded so generously with their time and sent us their recollections and photos. Just a fraction of the material appears here; all of the responses will become part of the University Archives. Miles Stevenson The residents of Crewe Hall (popularly known as Kroo’All in those Director of Alumni and Donor days) were a notorious bunch of students whose cruel initiations Relations of their new members were very original. In my case, during Crewe Hall Autumn 2015 that initiation night three senior members brought me up by lift to the top floor of the nearby Halifax Hall.
