The RCA’s Paul Swain presented a series of best practice case-studies from racing and other industries and proposed two industry-wide initiatives (sunflower lanyards and safe 3. spaces) that should be adopted for the benefit of racegoers. The Forum then discussed how racecourses could improve the raceday experience on offer to racegoers with hidden disabilities focussing on mental and emotional health.

Is it time for a Golden Gap Year? Baby Boomers, people born between 1946-1964, are the biggest demographic in the UK and their juvenescence period is lasting longer than ever. Leading up to Royal Ascot GBRI visited Hascombe and James Oldring has left GBRI to take up a role with ANZ Valiant Studs to speak with stud owner Mr Anthony Bloodstock News. On 27th June, no less than 272 Year 5 pupils – representing every Primary School in Newmarket – descended on the July Course to experience behind-the-scenes access to a raceday, as part of the Godolphin Under Starters Orders Programme. This initiative aims to give pupils a rounded introduction into the sport of horseracing and breeding, with trips to Palace House (to understand the history of the sport), Dalham Hall Stud (to learn about the bloodstock industry) and the racecourse. This programme, which is managed by Newmarket Racecourses and Jockey Club Estates and delivered by Racing to School is a fantastic way to introduce to young people the historical importance of the racing and the bloodstock industry to the town.
