PEDERSEN3,* ABSTRACT In this paper we report various findings from our ongoing studies of Crepidium (Orchidaceae), mainly conducted in preparation of the Flora of Thailand account on the genus: (1) the new combinations C. chamaeorchis (Schltr.) Nuammee, Seelanan, Suddee & H.A.Pedersen and C. szemaoense (Tang & F.T.Wang) Nuammee, Seelanan, Suddee & H.A.Pedersen are made and substantiated; (2) a putative natural hybrid between C. acuminatum (D.Don) Szlach. and C. polyodon (Hook.f.) Szlach. is discussed and highlighted as being the firstconvincing case of natural hybridization reported for Crepidium; (3) C. bahanense (Hand.-Mazz.) S.C. Chen & J.J. Wood, C. josephianum (Rchb.f.) Marg., C. maximowiczianum (King & Pantl.) Szlach. and C. micranthum (Hook.f.) Szlach. are reported as new national records for Thailand; (4) the name C. josephianum (Rchb.f.) Marg. is lectotypified. All taxa treated in this paper are documented by photos of live plants from their natural habitat in Thailand, and for each newly recorded species we provide a morphological description based on Thai material. Analysis of the fl oral odor of M. rzedowskiana by headspace trapping and thermal desorption-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry revealed the presence of kaurene (76%), (E)-ß-ionone (18%) and (E)-a-ionone (4%) as the main components. This is the fi rst report of a fl oral odor containing a high proportion of kaurene.

It is distinguished by a panduriform inflated disc, relatively short and widely separated epichile lobes on the lip, more or less equal length of the floral bracts over the entire floriferous portion of the inflorescence and orange colour. Introduction Oberonia Lindley (1830: 15) is an overlooked genus of small- to medium-sized, mostly epiphytic orchids with a long inflorescence bearing minute (1–4 mm) flowers. The 150–300 species (~470 taxa) are distributed from central Africa to French Polynesia and from southern Japan to northernmost New South Wales (Australia). The centre of diversity is the Malayan region, with New Guinea harbouring the greatest number of species (Schlechter 1911, Schuiteman & de Vogel 2006, Pridgeon et al. 2010). Materials and methods The habit of these plants was photographed with a digital single lens reflex camera (SLR). The close-up photographs of the flowers were acquired by z-stacking on a Zeiss Discovery V20 stereomicroscope with motorised focus, using a Zeiss 1.5× PlanApoS lens, objective slider, and a Zeiss Axiocam HRc revIII Peltier cooled microscope camera.

    NOTES ON SOME MALESIAN ORCHIDACEAE PAUL ORMEROD,1, 2 MARK A. NAÏVE,3 AND JIM COOTES4 Abstract. Herbarium and literature studies of various orchids from the Malesian floristic zone reveal some new species, synonymy, and the need for a few nomenclatural proposals. Thus, the synonymy of Cestichis halconensis is elaborated; Cymboglossum is found to be the older name for Ascidieria, requiring 8 transfers; Dendrobium appendiculoides is reduced to D. zamboangense; Dendrobium philippinense is reduced to D. gerlandianum; Epidendrum subulatum is reduced to Thrixspermum filiforme; Eria section Polyura is transferred to Pinalia; Eria villosissima is transferred to Mycaranthes; and Myrmechis philippinensis is renamed Odontochilus marivelensis. Six new species are proposed, namely, Dendrobium rubroflavum, Pinalia edanoana, P. kitangladensis, P. pentalopha, P. sanguinea, and P. tonglonensis. Abstract A comprehensive account on Orchid diversity of the state of Maharashtra has been made on the basis of field and herbarium studies. The present study revealed the occurrence of 122 taxa (119 species and 3 varieties) belonging to 36 genera from the State, out of which 32% (37 species and 2 varieties) are endemic to India. Special efforts have been made to find out distribution of endemic species and their conservation status. Besides this ecology, habitat and phyto-geographical affinities of the orchids occurring within the state of Maharashtra are also discussed. Résumé Révision des orchidées de Maharashtra, Inde – Un bilan détaillé de la diversité en orchidées de l’État de Maharashtra a été réalisé sur la base d'études menées sur le terrain et dans les herbiers. L'étude a révélé la présence dans cet État de 122 taxons (119 espèces et 3 variétés) réparties en 36 genres, dont 32% (37 espèces et 2 variétés) sont endémiques de l'Inde. Abstract A new species Oberonia jhae Chowlu et Rab (Orchidaceae) is described and illustrated from India. This species is allied to Oberonia emarginata King & Pantl, but differs from it in plant height, densely flowered inflorescences, ovate and entire sepals and very short column and lanceolate, acute petals. Introduction Genus Oberonia (Orchidaceae), established by John Lindley in 1830 is characterised by epiphyte or rarely lithophytes, medium-sized plants with coriaceous or fleshy, flat, ensiform leaves; sub-erect or drooping inflorescence with many densely arranged small-sized flowers; sub- similar sepals and petals; entire or 3lobbed lip; very short column and 4 pollinia. This genus comprises of more than 200 species with main concentration in tropical Asia and further extending to the pacific islands and Australia, and with a single species in Madagascar and topical Africa (Chen et al., 2009; Chowlu et al., 2014, 2015). In India, it is represented by c. 66 species (Misra, 2007; Chowlu et al., 2014, 2015) of which c. 39 species are found in northeast India (Rao, 2007; Chowdhery, 2009; Chowlu et al,. 2014, 2016), 22 species in Arunachal Pradesh (Chowlu et al., 2015) and with this addition the number increases to 23. During a routine visit to Papum Pare District of Arunachal Pradesh, a few Oberonias were collected by the authors in bud stage and brought under cultivation in the garden of Botanical Survey of India, Arunachal Pradesh Regional Centre, Itanagar in Papum Pare District of Arunachal Pradesh.
