Swindell Takes Knoxville WoO Preliminary by Bob Wilson

Knoxville, IA – Sammy Swindell took advantage of a front row starting position to guide the Harold Annett TMC Trucking J&J-Swindell to a convincing win during the World of Outlaws Spring Opener at the Knoxville Raceway Saturday night before a crowd estimated at 12,000.

Swindell, who was in control of the twenty-lap event from the outset, entered heavy lapped traffic during the 13th circuit which enabled Mark Kinser and Steve Kinser to close within striking distance. Swindell was able to www.KnoxvilleRaceway.com Page 3 of 47 move smoothly through the remaining traffic to catch Doug Clark’s checkered flags by a one hundred yard advantage. The win paid the Tennessee native $3,000 and marked his 30th career win on this half-mile oval.

The Kinsers held their running positions at the finish as Jeff Swindell took fourth and Stevie Smith claimed the fifth spot. Rounding out the top ten of this preliminary feature was Bobby Davis Jr., Dave Blaney, Danny Lasoski, Frankie Kerr and Cris Eash.

Heat race events were won by Jeff Swindell, Eash, Danny Smith and Kerr. Davis won the B Feature and Mark Kinser took the Fram Trophy Dash. Steve Kinser narrowly missed breaking the one-lap track record and qualifying time trials by clocking a mere .033 seconds above the current mark.

The companion Limited Sprints saw Terry Alexander capture his first feature event as Jordan Albaugh and Dwight Snodgrass followed to the finish line.

Wolfgang Wins WoO Knoxville Spring Finale by Bob Wilson

Knoxville, IA – No one knows the Knoxville Raceway track surface like Doug Wolfgang and Sunday night he called upon that expertise which gained him five Nationals titles to read the Knoxville soil to perfection.

Wolfgang, who started in the third row of the twenty-five lap feature event, immediately dove to the low groove at the start to take the runner-up position by the end of the third lap behind Jeff Swindell. By lap eight, that duo entered lapped traffic, which enabled third running Sammy Swindell to enter the picture. Two laps later, Sammy shot by those two on the backstretch to take the lead. Wolfgang gained the second spot after two circuits and began a classic chase of Swindell to the checkereds.

With heavy lapped traffic ringing the half-mile, Swindell and Wolfgang exchanged running high and low grooves. On lap twenty, with Swindell on the low side, Wolfgang rode to within inches of the third and fourth turn fences to take the lead as he passed under the flagstand. The South Dakota native maintained that top spot for the remainder of the distance and came across the line for the win, his fifty-fourth at this historic oval. He received $8,000 for his efforts.

Unreasonably cold weather befell the event and brisk, chilling winds forced the track to become dry-slick. Additionally, brief rains delayed what was otherwise an event featuring a stellar field of competitors.

Swindell passed under the checkereds some fifty yards behind the winning Wolfgang for second, Keith Kauffman closed at the end for third, Steve Kinser was fourth, and Jeff Swindell came across the stripe for fifth. Johnny Herrera, Danny Lasoski, Bobby Davis Jr., Mark Kinser and Ronnie Daniels formed the top ten finishers.

Defending Champ Lasoski Wins at Knoxville by Bob Wilson

Danny Lasoski drove the Ron Kohls-Fowler Ford Challenger to his sixteenth career feature event win at the Knoxville Raceway Saturday night.

Lasoski, the defending Knoxville track champion, took a sixteenth lap restart lead from Danny Young as he went on to claim the $2,500 to win twenty-lap event. Young, who had command of the event from the eighth circuit, finished strong to take the runner-up position. Ronnie Daniels, Jeff Tuttle and Jaymie Moyle formed the top five finishers.

Kevin Huntley, Mike Brooks, Marlon Jones, John Sernett and Terry Thorson completed the top ten in the feature event.

The events on the evening were delayed by an hour and a half due to heavy rains the previous day as well as a brief shower on Saturday afternoon.

Steve Breazeale led the distance to win the limited sprint feature. Archie Ergenbright and Steve Wares trailed at the checkereds. www.KnoxvilleRaceway.com Page 7 of 47

McSpadden Completes CRA Midwest Tour with Knoxville Win by Bob Wilson

Knoxville, IA – The veteran, Lealand McSpadden, utilized a late race restart to grab the lead and coast to a convincing win in the thirty-lap California Racing Association feature event at the Knoxville Raceway Sunday night.

What had been scheduled as a two-day Friday-Saturday event, fell to rain on each of those days. The program then went to Sunday as a result.

McSpadden, who was piloting the Danny Pivovaroff Ford Gambler, was able to change a slowly deflating left rear tire during a red flag stop on the twenty-eighth lap. When the race went green again, he was able to maintain the front running spot to the finish to claim a $5,000 payday.

The race had developed into a four-way contest early on as Jack Hewitt led from the second lap through the twenty-first circuit. The quartet of sprinters found the cushion to their liking as Bubby Jones, McSpadden and Rip Williams trailed the fleet Hewitt around the half-mile oval. www.KnoxvilleRaceway.com Page 9 of 47 McSpadden moved low into turn one on the twenty-second lap and exited down the backstretch with the lead. Jones was able to pull a similar move four laps later on Hewitt to gain the runner-up spot and Williams made a final lap pass of the fading Hewitt to gain third. CRA points leader John Redican trailed Hewitt at the checkereds for fifth.

Lasoski Looks Good at Knoxville Raceway by Bob Wilson

Knoxville, IA – Danny Lasoski powered the Ron Kohls-Fowler Ford Challenger to a convincing half-lap margin of victory at the Knoxville Raceway Saturday night.

The defending Knoxville track champion took the lead on the ninth lap after starting in the sixth row of the event and powered away from the field of winged sprinters to record his seventeenth career feature win here. Lasoski, who was recently voted thirteenth in the Spring 1990 National Sprint Car Poll, received $2,500 for his efforts.

A four-car pileup at the start of the twenty-lap event narrowed the field at the outset. Three additional cars were lost in two separate attempts to again start the race. No injuries were reported. The race went non-stop once the green flag flew.

Rich Bubak, who led the initial eight circuits of the race, held that position to place second at the finish. Jeff Tuttle, Jaymie Moyle and Ronnie Daniels completed the top five finishers. www.KnoxvilleRaceway.com Page 11 of 47 In the companion Limited Sprint division, Dwight Snodgrass won his initial feature event of the year. Bob Thompson and Jordan Albaugh trailed at the checkereds.

Ronnie Daniels Scores Knoxville Mini-Nationals Win by Bob Wilson

Knoxville, IA – Ronnie Daniels chose the right night to capture his initial win at the Knoxville Raceway as he guided the Phil Durst-Dave Paulsen Schnee Sprinter to a victory during the eighteenth annual Mini-Nationals Saturday night.

The twenty-lap feature event saw Randy Smith grab the immediate lead as Daniels dogged the front runner at a close distance. On lap thirteen, the pair forged into heavy lapped traffic and Daniels exited in turn four with a narrow lead.

A red flag was shown with five laps remaining and on the restart Daniels was able to pull away for the $2,750 win. Smith then battled for the second place spot with current track points leader Danny Lasoski. That duo exchanged the position several times with Lasoski prevailing in the end. Jaymie Moyle took fourth, Jerry Janssen finished fifth, and Danny Young took passing honors as he drove from the tail to place sixth. Kevin Doty, Terry Thorson, Kevin Huntley, and Bob Weuve completed the top ten finishers.

Bob Thompson won his third feature of the year for limited sprints. Mark Wilson took second and Jordan Albaugh was third.

Lasoski Wins Again at Knoxville Oval by Bob Wilson

Knoxville, IA – Danny Lasoski won his third feature in four weeks as he powered the Ron Kohls Fowler Ford Challenger to a convincing win at the Knoxville Raceway Saturday night.

Lasoski grabbed the lead after the first lap as he ran the high groove and was never headed in the twenty-lap event. The win paid the Show-Me-State pilot $2,500 and was his eighteenth career win here.

The real battle evolved behind the leader as Randy Smith finally settled the runner-up issue to finish a half lap behind the winner. Mike Brooks came across the line for third, Ronnie Daniels was fourth, and Bob Weuve took fifth. Rounding out the top ten were Danny Young, Jaymie Moyle, Billy Vielhauer, Jerry Richert Jr., back from an early season injury, and David Hesmer.

Mark Wilson won the fifteen lap limited feature as he piloted the Bob Trostle sprinter to the first feature event win of his career. Bob Thompson was second and Jordan Albaugh finished third.

Lasoski Tops Knoxville Sprint Field by Bob Wilson

Knoxville, IA – Danny Lasoski captured his fourth feature event on the season as he piloted the Ron Kohls Ford Fowler Challenger to a twenty-lap feature event win at the Knoxville Raceway Saturday night. The win paid the second generation driver $2,500.

Lasoski, who has been on a tear in the upper Midwest, grabbed the lead on the seventh lap when he passed Randy Martin at the flagstand in heavy lapped traffic. Five laps later, former Indianapolis 500 flagman, Duane Sweeney, displayed the red and brought the race to a halt as second running Randy Smith exited the event.

On the restart, Lasoski was able to pull away from the field to register his nineteenth career win at the Marion County oval. Bob Weuve was a solid second, Shane Carson claimed third, Ronnie Daniels took fourth, and Jeff Tuttle completed the top five.

In the Limited Sprints, Dwight Snodgrass took his second feature event on the season. Tom Lenz finished second and Mark Wilson was third.

The afternoon and early evening hours saw the induction ceremonies of the initial twenty members into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame. Director Tom Schmeh was aided in the affair by co-masters of ceremonies, Tom Savage and Bruce Ellis.

Steve Kinser Takes WoO Knoxville Prelim by Bob Wilson

Knoxville, IA – Steve Kinser turned some tough luck around Friday night to win the $3,000 preliminary World of Outlaws feature event at the Knoxville Raceway.

The event looked to be a runaway for Doug Wolfgang after he grabbed the lead from his pole starting position. At the halfway point of the twenty-lap contest, Kinser began to make a noticeable challenge and Wolfgang’s lead began to shrink. As the twosome passed the flagstand at the completion of lap fourteen, Kinser dove low while Wolfgang chose the high route. Kinser’s move proved to be the correct one, as the Hoosier state native grabbed the lead and Wolfgang became trapped momentarily behind a lapped car.

The evening threatened to be a sour one for Kinser as the multi-time Outlaw champion lost an engine at the finish of the trophy dash. The Karl Kinser crew was able to make a new powerplant change on the J.W. Hunt Maxim in just twenty minutes enabling Kinser to start the feature event.

At the finish, it was Kinser over Wolfgang by fifty yards as Bobby Davis Jr., Sammy Swindell and Danny Lasoski trailed at a distance. Rounding out the top ten were Stevie Smith, Dave Blaney, Jeff Swindell, Joe Gaerte and Bobby Allen, who faded from his front row starting position.

Qualifying heat races were won by Kinser, Allen, and both Swindells. Galen Martin won the C Feature, Gaerte captured the B Feature and Wolfgang won going away in the trophy dash.

Knoxville WoO Event is All Steve Kinser by Bob Wilson

Knoxville, IA – Steve Kinser is on a roll and the nine-time World of Outlaws champion laid proof to that claim as he stormed to a twenty-five lap World of Outlaws feature event at the Knoxville Raceway Saturday night. The current WoO points leader collected $8,000 for the flag to flag run and solidified his number one standing in the National Sprint Racing Poll.

Kinser, who started in the second row, trailed Sammy Swindell at a distance in the early portion of the event. By the mid-point of the race Kinser discovered a faster route around the Marion County half-mile oval as he ran the top around turn one and came down low on turn two to close the gap on the fleet Swindell. The sixteenth lap saw the strategy pay off as Kinser had the lead when he passed the flagstand with Swindell in tow.

For Kinser, who was forced to change a second engine in two nights, the victory was his twenty-eighth at these famed fairgrounds as he took the checkered flag with Swindell exiting turn four. Bobby Allen, who had a spirited race-long battle with Doug Wolfgang, made a final lap pass to take third while Wolfgang finished just inches behind. Local standout, Danny Lasoski, came across the line to finish fifth. Bobby Davis Jr., Dave Blaney, Stevie Smith, Joe Gaerte and Cris Eash rounded out the top ten finishers.

Qualifying heat race events went to Gary Cameron II, Jeff Swindell, Gaerte and Blaney. Rich Bubak took the C Feature and Jeff Tuttle was victorious in the B Feature.

In the companion Limited Sprint feature, rookie Brent Antill won his initial feature event, as Mark Wilson and Jordan Albaugh trailed him to the checkereds. Numerous yellow and red flags plagued the event.

Lasoski Takes Win Number 5 at Knoxville by Bob Wilson

Knoxville, IA – Danny Lasoski continued to show his prowess at the Knoxville Raceway as he guided the Kohls-Fowler Ford Challenger to a $2,500 feature event win Saturday night during the twelfth annual Knoxville Hall of Fame night.

Lasoski’s fifth feature victory of the season did not come easily as he trailed Danny Young for much of the twenty-lap event. With Young hugging the inside groove, Lasoski worked the youngster for numerous laps but was unable to make the pass. On lap thirteen, Lasoski turned the table when Young drifted high in turn four as he shot to the low side and the lead. He then pulled away for his twentieth career feature event win at this half- mile oval.

Young held his position to place second, Jaymie Moyle made a late race charge to take third, Bob Weuve was fourth and Shawn Moore finished fifth. Mike Brooks, John Sernett, Pat Moore, Bob White and Rich Bubak rounded out the top ten finishers.

In Limited Sprint competition, rookie Brent Antill scored his second feature event win on the season. Mark Wilson finished half a car length behind for second, and Jordan Albaugh was third.

At trackside ceremonies during the evening, Don Maxwell, Roger Rager, Anita Johnson and Dave Van Patten were inducted into the Knoxville Raceway Hall of Fame. www.KnoxvilleRaceway.com Page 23 of 47 410 Results

Lasoski Doubles in Knoxville Twin Features by Bob Wilson

Knoxville, IA – Danny Lasoski continued his winning ways at the Knoxville Raceway as he drove the Ron Kohls-Fowler Ford Challenger to double feature event wins during the Twin Sixteens Saturday night. The victories paid the “Show Me State” pilot $3,000 and marked his sixth and seventh main event tallies of the season at this historic oval.

In the first feature, Lasoski grabbed an immediate lead and then proceeded to extend his margin to a half-lap at the checkereds for the win in track record time. Ronnie Daniels was second, Randy Smith was third, Jaymie Moyle took fourth, and Jerry Janssen finished fifth.

With the second sixteen-lap feature completely inverted, Lasoski wasted no time in his drive to the front as he roared through the field of cars to grab the lead on lap eight. He again finished nearly a half-lap in front of second place to become the first driver to claim both features since Bobby Davis Jr. accomplished the feat in 1984. Daniels, Dave Hollamon, Moyle and Smith formed the top five finishers.

Twin Twelves were the fare for the limited sprint division as Mark Wilson and Billy Dusenbery each proved to be victorious. It was Dusenbery’s initial win here. Brent Antill claimed the second spot in both events.

Danny Young Notches Knoxville Sprint Win by Bob Wilson

Knoxville, IA – Third year driver Danny Young scored a popular victory at the Knoxville Raceway as he posted a twenty-lap feature event win Saturday night.

The race appeared to be in the pocket of Ronnie Daniels as the Memphis pilot shot to the front at the start and pulled away from the balance of the pack. On the fifteenth circuit, Daniels tangled with a lapped car in turn two, bringing out the red and sending himself to the sidelines.

When the race was restarted, Young became the new leader as he charged hard to the finish line in the final five laps to record the $2,500 victory in his self-owned Challenger. The win was the second of Young’s career here and snapped a string of five straight by Danny Lasoski.

Rookie Shawn Moore followed the leader closely, but came up short for second, Lasoski was third, Jeff Tuttle claimed fourth and Randy Smith finished fifth. Australian Max Dumesny drove from the tail of the event to place sixth after transferring from the B Main, a race he additionally won from the tail in the eighteen car field.

The Limited Sprint Feature found Terry Alexander in the winner’s circle for the second time on the season. Brent Antill was second and Jordan Albaugh was third.

Lasoski Takes Win Number Eight at Knoxville by Bob Wilson

Knoxville, IA – Danny Lasoski drove to his eighth feature win of the season at the Knoxville Raceway Saturday night in the twenty-lap main event.

The race was red flagged on the eighth circuit and the ensuing restart saw Lasoski power the Ron Kohls Fowler Ford Challenger right to the back bumper of race leader Max Dumesny. Three laps later, the Missouri pilot grabbed the lead and set sail to take the $2,500 victory with a comfortable margin.

Dumesny held his position for second, but was hard pressed at the finish by Mike Brooks. Jeff Tuttle claimed fourth and Garry Lee Maier came across the stripe for fifth. Rounding out the top ten finishers were Jerry Janssen, Ronnie Daniels, Rich Bubak, Kevin Doty and Bob Weuve.

The Limited sprint division saw the top three in points standings fall to the wayside during the evening as Dwight Snodgrass took his third feature event on the season. Billy Dusenbery and Bob Thompson trailed at the checkereds.

Dumesny Takes Knoxville Pre-Nationals Feature by Bob Wilson

Knoxville, IA – It was a five year wait, but Australian Max Dumesny took his second career feature win at the Knoxville Raceway Saturday night.

Dumesny, who is in the States for the summer, grabbed a second lap lead in the Fred Kain Challenger and rode the cushion to extend his margin. On lap thirteen, the red flag was displayed when Shane Carson struck the fourth turn fence near the pit gate. He was not injured.

When the race was restarted, Dumesny again expanded his lead to come across the finish line for the $2,500 victory. Dumesny’s last win here came in the 1985 Nationals Race of States feature when he bested Doug Wolfgang.

Finishing second was Jeff Tuttle, as Danny Lasoski drove from the tail of the event to take third. Mike Brooks finished fourth and second generation driver Taylor Weld was fifth. Randy Smith, Ronnie Daniels, Bob Weuve, Jaymie Moyle and Scooter Lambert rounded out the top ten finishers.

Steve Breazeale won his second feature in the limited sprint portion of the program. Dwight Snodgrass and Terry Alexander trailed at a distance.

Steve Kinser Opens Nationals with a Perfect Night by Bob Wilson

Six-time Knoxville Nationals champion Steve Kinser took a giant step towards a seventh title as he roared to a perfect 500 point score during the Wednesday night opener at the 30th Annual Knoxville Nationals before an estimated crowd of 12,000.

“Karl’s definitely got it ready to race,” Kinser said in victory lane. “The motor was running good and the chassis was working good. I think it will work on a on a slick track and its really got a lot of pull to work on a heavy track. When you get one running like that, it definitely makes my job a lot easier.”

The race was red flagged on the first two attempted starts as three cars were lost to the first turn fence. When it went green on the third attempt, front row starter Cris Eash grabbed the top spot which he held through the first five laps. On the sixth circuit, Kinser maneuvered a low side pass in turn three and took the lead which he extended to nearly half a lap at the end of the twenty-lap event.

Joe Gaerte made a late race pass to take second, Eash held for third, Terry Gray was fourth and Danny Lasoski finished fifth. Rounding out the top ten finishers were Bobby Davis Jr., Jerry Richert Jr., Dave Blaney from the tail, Max Dumesny and Mike Peters.

Qualifying heat events went to Kinser, Davis Jr., Jimmy Sills, Tod Bishop and Lasoski. Blaney took the B main as 73 cars came to the line for qualifying time trials. The victory and a sweep in time trials and qualifying heat race assured Kinser of the pole position in Saturday’s championship race. “You never know what’s going to happen Saturday night,” Kinser prophesized. “We have no complaints. Let’s just hope we can keep it going.”

Mark Kinser is Perfect on Thursday Night by Bob Wilson

The second night of qualifying for the 30th Annual Knoxville Nationals saw Mark Kinser match the performance of his cousin Steve Kinser as he too completed a perfect 500 point score during the Thursday night preliminary qualifications.

“To tell you the truth, I was going as hard as I could the whole time,” Kinser said in victory lane. “I had a lot of good racers there in front of me and I just had to pick a line to go. The guys set up the car superb. A few guys like myself have got a shot at this.”

The initial lead in the 20-lap feature event went to pole-sitter Ronnie Daniels, but a yellow flag flew on lap six for second running Joey Kuhn, whose car had jumped out of gear. On the restart, Sammy Swindell grabbed the top spot for three circuits. A second yellow slowed the event on lap nine, and that restart saw Kinser drop to the inside in turns on and two to gain the lead down the backstretch. The younger Kinser then held off Swindell through lapped traffic to win by two car lengths at the checkered.

Stevie Smith placed third followed by Bobby Allen and Daniels. , Danny Smith, Tommie Estes Jr., Rickey Hood and Bob Weuve formed the top ten finishers. Qualifying heat events went to Kinser, Allen, Smith, Daniels and Swindell. Greg Hodnett won the B main. 63 cars took qualifying time trials.

The win earned Kinser the front row outside starting position for Saturday’s Championship feature and marked the first time in the history of the Knoxville Nationals that drivers have recorded perfect scores in preliminary qualifications.

Defending Nationals champion, Doug Wolfgang, collided with Rick Montgomery and slammed into the front stretch retaining wall just after the fourth heat went green. His car was damaged extensively, relegating him to the Friday night non-qualifiers program for the second time in three years. www.KnoxvilleRaceway.com Page 38 of 47

Lasoski, Blaney, Bell All Post Friday Feature Wins by Bob Wilson

An estimated crowd of 16,000 was on hand at the Marion County Fairgrounds to watch the final night of preliminary qualifications at the 30th Anniversary Knoxville Nationals on Friday night. Danny Lasoski, Dave Blaney and Jim Bell Jr. each posted 20-lap feature event victories.

Bell captured the final qualifying feature after he inherited the lead when Doug Wolfgang broke a driveshaft on lap ten and dropped from the event. Bell had led the race through lap five until he yielded the point position to the hapless Wolfgang.

“Hey, I’ll tell you what, to win here is my dream,” an enthused Bell said in victory lane. “It might be nothing but Friday night but this is a dream come true.” Chasing Bell to the checkereds were Taylor Weld, John Sernett, Mal Lane and Frankie Kerr.

1990 Knoxville Raceway champion Danny Lasoski won the “Race of States” feature for Missouri when he chased down race-long leader Johnny Herrera to make a low side pass in turns one and two of the eighteenth circuit in lapped traffic. Lasoski then held the top spot to win by three car lengths over Herrera followed by Sammy Swindell, Stevie Smith and Doug Wolfgang.

Dave Blaney came from deep in the pack to take the “Mystery” feature. 1990 Nationals Rookie of the Year, Joey Kuhn, led through the halfway point, until Joe Gaerte took the top spot on lap eleven. Lap fifteen saw Blaney charge to the point position with a high side pass in turns three and four. Trailing Blaney at the finish were Gaerte, Danny Smith, Kuhn and Bobby Davis Jr.

Bobby Allen Claims Knoxville Nationals Title by Bob Wilson

Bobby Allen claimed a popular and surprising $35,000 victory as he staged some late race heroics to win the 30th Annual Knoxville Nationals before 18,000 spectators at the Knoxville Raceway Saturday night.

Allen, whose first Nationals competition came in 1973, battled with Sammy Swindell for the final eight circuits of the thirty-lap event after inheriting the lead on lap twenty-three. Swindell, whose engine had been smoking since the midway point of the race, snared the lead on the twenty-sixth lap as he rode the big half-mile on the high side against the fence. Twice Swindell banged into the retaining wall as spraying oil on his helmet visor inhibited his vision.

Lap twenty-nine saw Allen regain the lead in turn three with his patented low groove route and come across the line for the white flag just in front of Swindell. The duo circled the track for one final lap as Allen beat the 1983 champion to the finish line by three car lengths.

“Everything just seemed to work my way and I was real happy for it,” the 46 year old Allen said in victory lane. “The race track was perfect for me tonight. Some of the guys had a little trouble,” Allen said referring to engine woes. “But I don’t care. I won and I’m happy!”

Steve Kinser grabbed the immediate lead as the 24-car field roared past the start/finish line and into turn one. On the backstretch the pole-sitter slowed and eventually pitted twelve laps later, the victim of a malfunctioning magneto.

Fellow front row starter, Mark Kinser, assumed the lead from the first lap and built a commanding margin on the half-mile oval. By the tenth circuit, he was forging through lapped traffic and looked to be on his way to the Nationals title.

On lap twenty-three, the yellow flag was displayed as fourth running Dave Blaney had coasted to a stop along the frontstretch. During this caution period, Mark Kinser began to show signs of smoke from his engine and he pulled his mount to a halt. Suddenly, the powerful front row was gone, setting up the Allen and Swindell duel to the checkereds.

www.KnoxvilleRaceway.com Page 42 of 47 Swindell received $23,000 for his runner-up efforts. Third place and $15,000 went to Stevie Smith, who finished on seven cylinders. 1990 Knoxville track champion, Danny Lasoski, took fourth with an overheating engine.

Doug Wolfgang finished fifth and likewise guided a mount powered by an overworked and smoking engine. The defending champion began the evening as a D main qualifier. The Sioux Falls pilot wrote Nationals history as he won the D, placed second in the C main, won the B main, and passed 16 cars from an eleventh row starting position in the National Championship feature. All totaled Wolfgang passed 57 sprinters.

Wolfgang was extremely gracious towards the man who replaced him as Nationals champion. “Bob does it all and he has since about the late ‘60s,” Wolfgang said, “So my hat’s off to him and I’m glad that if I couldn’t win it, I couldn’t figure out a better guy deserving the win.” Allen remained at the victory platform signing autographs for several hours after the awards ceremonies were completed.

Tuttle Tops Knoxville Season Finale by Bob Wilson

Knoxville, IA – The thirty-seventh season championship concluded the racing activities at the Knoxville Raceway as Jeff Tuttle drove the Mike VanderEcken Trostle sprinter to a twenty-lap feature event win Saturday night.

The win was Tuttle’s first of the year in a race which saw four yellows and one red. It was the final caution flag on lap seventeen which saw Tuttle grab the top spot from 1990 track champion, Danny Lasoski. Tuttle was able to hold that position to take the win and the $2,500 payday.

Randy Smith and Jerry Richert Jr. finished second and third, Lasoski faded to fourth, and Bob Weuve took fifth. Danny Young, Tommy Scott, Mike Twedt, David Hesmer and Bob Johnson rounded out the top ten finishers.

Brent Antill completed his rookie year in limited sprints as he won that division’s feature event, his third on the season. Billy Dusenbery and Mark Wilson trailed at the checkereds. Dusenbery won the season ending Miller Texas Pursuit in track record time, while John Sernett took the Miller pursuit and the $2,000 top money for the unlimited sprints.
