Public Petition for presentation to Neil Parkin, Leader of Adur District Council KEEP THE GAPS ON THE MAP Stop flood-risked development on New Monks Farm, on the Lancing Flood Plain & Protect our Strategic Green Gaps 378 Signed at 14:37 on 20.11.13 http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/neil-parkin-leader-of-adur-district-council- keep-the-gaps-on-the-map-stop-flood-risked-development-on-new-monks-farm-on-the- lancing-flood-plain-protect-our-strategic-green-gaps Planned developments have not been stopped despite residents' warnings that this will create significant flooding risks. Last winter, severe flooding damaged a number of homes in the area, and stopped circulation of traffic, at huge cost to the community. 1 Our roads are already congested and at full capacity. 'Flooding Action plans' are not enough - development on Lancing Flood plain must stop. Supporters and their reasons for signing John Gillam SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM This area already suffers from severe traffic problems, the thought of several hundred more cars on our local roads, utter madness! Derek Reynolds SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM Losing green fields. Over stretched infrastructure. Quality of life in the Lancing/Sompting area. Alison Power SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM Utter madness to build on a flood plane clue in the name 'flood' and who ever had this idea obviously does not have to use the A27 regularly and sit in the existing traffic for hours ! Tim Clarke SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM I moved to Sompting because I want to live in a rural village area. I do not want to be part of an urban sprawl. If I wanted that, I would move to Brighton. KEEP THE GAPS! Anton Green HOVE, UNITED KINGDOM o 4 days ago It ticks so many boxes....maintaining green belts is essential, there is no quantification of additional traffic and it has to be a mistake to go on developing flood plain land. Elaine Beard SOUTHWICK, UNITED KINGDOM o Natural green spaces. Leaving flood plains to do their job and not building on them. Giving residents a quality place to live and not overcrowding us like sardines in a tin. 2 Giving residents roads that they can get from A to B without constant traffic jams and delays. Robert Wilkinson BRIGHTON, UNITED KINGDOM Local pilot keen to do business david lambourne LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM Our house was built in 1928 3 feet above ground level northern end of Grinstead lane , I think that was for a reason. There has been historical flooding here before. David Lambourne jay hayler SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM Facilities are overstretched enough as it is, this would be a disaster Anita Bullock SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM Keep the gaps on the Maps - we need to preserve our village boundaries. jacqueline pennock LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM Lancing is doesn't need any more housing. it needs solutions to deal with flooding, traffic jams and inadequate amenities for its villagers Jeff Meddle LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM Grinstead Lane is just on the edge of the flood-plain - with many more buildings, the risk becomes much higher. pat meddle LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM I live in Grinstead Lane, and spent last Christmas worried that we were going to be flooded. The floodwater (and eventually sewage), from A27 to Curvins Way, was not moving at all, one side of the road had to be fenced off due to the depth of water. It caused corrosion of the underlying gas pipes and the men were out fixing them from Dec 25 for a over a week. It took many days for the water to subside, thankfully the rain ceased. there was nothing Southern Water could do. In meantime nearby Manor Waye had worse flood problems. In 1992 when we moved here, we were told by Environment agency that we were at risk from flood. We experienced it during 3 winter 2000/2001. For 2 months,24 hours a day southern water lorries were just a few feet from our front door draining the drains. It is clear we have a problem here and something needs to be done regarding the drainage system if that is possible. Absurdly though, it seems the authorities wish not only to make our situation worse, but want to include others(new home owners) in on the misery, being threatened by flooding is no fun and being flooded must count as a truly miserable experience. Not to mention the financial problems that can ensue, being refused insurance etc. The roads here are too busy, queues for hours in the daytime, not just at rush hour as when we moved here. We don't need any more cars, vans lorries here! Currently part of Flood plain is being built on (BHA football area) causing more road use and jeopardising our tenuous safety from flooding. Please put our minds at rest and stop this development. Why is this important to you? (Optional) Nicky Coleman WEST SUSSEX, UNITED KINGDOM Impact it will have on local schools and the community. Tara Gregory LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM Because I am a Lancing resident and these spaces are valuable to our neighbourhoods Chris Brown SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM The areas around Sompting and Sompting fringe are already developed to max capacity. And the local infrastructure is not equipped to deal with this. As well Sompting is a village and the surrounding area that makes up Sompting if developed will destroy it's character and de value the area. hollie cook SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM where I live Paul Ward SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM Currently there are insufficient schools, health services, shops and the road infastructure is already at breaking point. The appeal of Sompting is its' rural feel - LET'S NOT LOSE IT!!!! Jan West SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM 4 As a Sompting resident, we DO NOT want more houses!! Keep our land and open spaces. Tara Kelsberg BOWSER, CANADA To keep from being over crowded ! We (my family) are from quite near there caroline kearney LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM because we live here, there is already too much traffic, not enough facilities for the children and those that are here are stretched to their limit Richard Baldwin WORTHING, UNITED KINGDOM we do not need any more house's in sompting the traffic is bad enough, before building ne golf course's ie next to shoreham airport they could have built 400 house's on the ground there if they build more in sompting I can guarantee the road's will become gridlocked total madness.i do wonder who got the back hander's on this one? Claire Mitchell SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM cannot believe that people would much rather accommodate our over populated country and build yet more houses than save a place where there is natural beauty and wildlife situated. To take away our views of the country side . increase congestion, increase the capacity of schools, increases the chances of flooding, increase our small hospital, of which you can be left waiting for 4 hours or more in the a@e department . We stand united and say go on with you, take your machines and make some noise somewhere else as that's something else we will have to endure .Who make these decisions and who thinks about us as humans not numbers David Mitchell SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM The village of Sompting is precisely that, a village. We have our own identity, our own history and lots of residents who are proud to be a called a Sompingnite. If this development goes ahead then we will become just another part of Worthing's sprawling mass. The traffic is murder during rush hour in west street due to traffic dropping off the over congested A27. There aren't enough amenities in the area as it is. Try getting a non emergency doctors appointment now, imagine how bad it will be with another 2000 residents in our small community. The strategic gaps are there 5 for a reason to separate our communities. Lets fight to keep it that way. Sompting is not part of Worthing and the people of Sompting don't want it to be. Hazel Jordan-willard SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM I feel as a young resident in sompting havinh lived here 27 years the farm land as we call it in our home holds heritage to sompting village and thats exactly what sompting is a village not a building site to knock up homes wherever you see fit. We have alot if the older generation who may i add have worked their whole lifes to have a nice retirement giving this country their all now they want to enjoy our village and spend their retirement happy not in fear of all the new houses waiting weeks to see a doctor because lets face it doctors are overstretched as it is without 400 new patients. And how about our younger generation they will suffer most within our schools which are over stretched and full now! They will not have the chance at a proper education as the classes will be too large teachers too tired and over run to focus on all thier class not to mention help those that are falling behind now. Crime rate will go threw the roof this has be proven after building hundreds of homes in bognor crime rates have gone up fear has spread is this what you want for our community gangs fear and crime i certainly do not and its not a life i want for our children i hope the council sees sence and focus on its community not how much money we can spend ruining whats left of our beautiful village david walters SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM concern over increased traffic congestion concern over access of proposed housing developments lack of infrastructure to support over an increase of more than 1000 homes loss off large areas of strategic gaps of both lancing and sompting Tom Smith SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM The infrastructure cannot sustainable Mike Boniface SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM The A27 is at saturation point already without the increase in traffic caused by a development of this size and the area is a flood plane! Sue Cruickshanks SHOREHAM BY SEA, UNITED KINGDOM 6 How silly can you get?? Build houses on a flood plain, wait for the storms, and wait for the flooding.
