http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/neil-parkin-leader-of-adur-district-council- keep-the-gaps-on-the-map-stop-flood-risked-development-on-new-monks-farm-on-the- lancing-flood-plain-protect-our-strategic-green-gaps

Planned developments have not been stopped despite residents' warnings that this will create significant flooding risks.

Last winter, severe flooding damaged a number of homes in the area, and stopped circulation of traffic, at huge cost to the community.

1 Our roads are already congested and at full capacity. 'Flooding Action plans' are not enough - development on Lancing Flood plain must stop. Supporters and their reasons for signing

 John Gillam SOMPTING,

This area already suffers from severe traffic problems, the thought of several hundred more cars on our local roads, utter madness!

 Derek Reynolds SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

Losing green fields. Over stretched infrastructure. Quality of life in the Lancing/Sompting area.

 Alison Power SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

Utter madness to build on a flood plane clue in the name 'flood' and who ever had this idea obviously does not have to use the A27 regularly and sit in the existing traffic for hours !

 Tim Clarke SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

I moved to Sompting because I want to live in a rural village area. I do not want to be part of an urban sprawl. If I wanted that, I would move to Brighton.

KEEP THE GAPS!

 Anton Green HOVE, UNITED KINGDOM o 4 days ago It ticks so many boxes....maintaining green belts is essential, there is no quantification of additional traffic and it has to be a mistake to go on developing flood plain land.

 Elaine Beard SOUTHWICK, UNITED KINGDOM o Natural green spaces. Leaving flood plains to do their job and not building on them. Giving residents a quality place to live and not overcrowding us like sardines in a tin.

2 Giving residents roads that they can get from A to B without constant traffic jams and delays.

 Robert Wilkinson BRIGHTON, UNITED KINGDOM

Local pilot keen to do business

 david lambourne LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Our house was built in 1928 3 feet above ground level northern end of Grinstead lane , I think that was for a reason. There has been historical flooding here before. David Lambourne

 jay hayler SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

Facilities are overstretched enough as it is, this would be a disaster

 Anita Bullock SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

Keep the gaps on the Maps - we need to preserve our village boundaries.

 jacqueline pennock LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Lancing is doesn't need any more housing. it needs solutions to deal with flooding, traffic jams and inadequate amenities for its villagers

 Jeff Meddle LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Grinstead Lane is just on the edge of the flood-plain - with many more buildings, the risk becomes much higher.

 pat meddle LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

I live in Grinstead Lane, and spent last Christmas worried that we were going to be flooded. The floodwater (and eventually sewage), from A27 to Curvins Way, was not moving at all, one side of the road had to be fenced off due to the depth of water. It caused corrosion of the underlying gas pipes and the men were out fixing them from Dec 25 for a over a week. It took many days for the water to subside, thankfully the rain ceased. there was nothing Southern Water could do. In meantime nearby Manor Waye had worse flood problems. In 1992 when we moved here, we were told by Environment agency that we were at risk from flood. We experienced it during

3 winter 2000/2001. For 2 months,24 hours a day southern water lorries were just a few feet from our front door draining the drains. It is clear we have a problem here and something needs to be done regarding the drainage system if that is possible. Absurdly though, it seems the authorities wish not only to make our situation worse, but want to include others(new home owners) in on the misery, being threatened by flooding is no fun and being flooded must count as a truly miserable experience. Not to mention the financial problems that can ensue, being refused insurance etc. The roads here are too busy, queues for hours in the daytime, not just at rush hour as when we moved here. We don't need any more cars, vans lorries here! Currently part of Flood plain is being built on (BHA football area) causing more road use and jeopardising our tenuous safety from flooding. Please put our minds at rest and stop this development. Why is this important to you? (Optional)

 Nicky Coleman WEST , UNITED KINGDOM

Impact it will have on local schools and the community.

 Tara Gregory LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Because I am a Lancing resident and these spaces are valuable to our neighbourhoods

 Chris Brown SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

The areas around Sompting and Sompting fringe are already developed to max capacity. And the local infrastructure is not equipped to deal with this. As well Sompting is a village and the surrounding area that makes up Sompting if developed will destroy it's character and de value the area.

 hollie cook SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

where I live

 Paul Ward SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

Currently there are insufficient schools, health services, shops and the road infastructure is already at breaking point. The appeal of Sompting is its' rural feel - LET'S NOT LOSE IT!!!!

 Jan West SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

4 As a Sompting resident, we DO NOT want more houses!! Keep our land and open spaces.

 Tara Kelsberg BOWSER, CANADA

To keep from being over crowded ! We (my family) are from quite near there

 caroline kearney LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

because we live here, there is already too much traffic, not enough facilities for the children and those that are here are stretched to their limit

 Richard Baldwin , UNITED KINGDOM

we do not need any more house's in sompting the traffic is bad enough, before building ne golf course's ie next to shoreham airport they could have built 400 house's on the ground there if they build more in sompting I can guarantee the road's will become gridlocked total madness.i do wonder who got the back hander's on this one?

 Claire Mitchell SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

cannot believe that people would much rather accommodate our over populated country and build yet more houses than save a place where there is natural beauty and wildlife situated. To take away our views of the country side . increase congestion, increase the capacity of schools, increases the chances of flooding, increase our small hospital, of which you can be left waiting for 4 hours or more in the a@e department . We stand united and say go on with you, take your machines and make some noise somewhere else as that's something else we will have to endure .Who make these decisions and who thinks about us as humans not numbers

 David Mitchell SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

The village of Sompting is precisely that, a village. We have our own identity, our own history and lots of residents who are proud to be a called a Sompingnite. If this development goes ahead then we will become just another part of Worthing's sprawling mass. The traffic is murder during rush hour in west street due to traffic dropping off the over congested A27. There aren't enough amenities in the area as it is. Try getting a non emergency doctors appointment now, imagine how bad it will be with another 2000 residents in our small community. The strategic gaps are there

5 for a reason to separate our communities. Lets fight to keep it that way. Sompting is not part of Worthing and the people of Sompting don't want it to be.

 Hazel Jordan-willard SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

I feel as a young resident in sompting havinh lived here 27 years the farm land as we call it in our home holds heritage to sompting village and thats exactly what sompting is a village not a building site to knock up homes wherever you see fit. We have alot if the older generation who may i add have worked their whole lifes to have a nice retirement giving this country their all now they want to enjoy our village and spend their retirement happy not in fear of all the new houses waiting weeks to see a doctor because lets face it doctors are overstretched as it is without 400 new patients. And how about our younger generation they will suffer most within our schools which are over stretched and full now! They will not have the chance at a proper education as the classes will be too large teachers too tired and over run to focus on all thier class not to mention help those that are falling behind now. Crime rate will go threw the roof this has be proven after building hundreds of homes in bognor crime rates have gone up fear has spread is this what you want for our community gangs fear and crime i certainly do not and its not a life i want for our children i hope the council sees sence and focus on its community not how much money we can spend ruining whats left of our beautiful village

 david walters SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

concern over increased traffic congestion

concern over access of proposed housing developments

lack of infrastructure to support over an increase of more than 1000 homes

loss off large areas of strategic gaps of both lancing and sompting

 Tom Smith SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

The infrastructure cannot sustainable

 Mike Boniface SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

The A27 is at saturation point already without the increase in traffic caused by a development of this size and the area is a flood plane!

 Sue Cruickshanks SHOREHAM BY SEA, UNITED KINGDOM

6 How silly can you get?? Build houses on a flood plain, wait for the storms, and wait for the flooding. Total madness! The only ones to profit are the developers!

Leave the green belt alone. There are plenty of other sites far more suitable!!!

 Karen Jack LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Nicola Fuller Shoreham

There is far too much traffic in this area and we have all seen how awful building on a flood plane can be. And then no one can insure their homes once they have been flooded.

 Karen Jack LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

I live just to the west of this proposed development and currently trying to get either east or west is extremely difficult not only during the rush hour but also at weekends; to add yet more traffic to the already over-stretched road system is inconceivable. Apart from the overall inadequate infrastructure already in existence to build on flood plain just beggars belief; past experience in many, many areas has shown how disastrous this is. I'm afraid those who are contemplating this will have to seriously think again and present a much more sensible proposal.

 BARBARA PORTER SHOREHAM-BY-SEA, UNITED KINGDOM

I agree with the coments already written. We need to keep the green lungs between Shoreham & Sompting & Worthing & Sompting. Council Have you read any reports of flooding each winter in ? What about the cost of helping the poor souls each year?

Pat Austen Sompting.

 robert stanbridge SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

don't want more floods in my back garden due to over building in the area!

 Gill Tucker WORTHING, UNITED KINGDOM

Flood risk, disappearance of yet more countryside, already choked roads overloaded by incrased traffic.....

 Hazel Waller WORTHING, UNITED KINGDOM

Too many houses are being flooded already.

7  BARBARA PORTER SHOREHAM-BY-SEA, UNITED KINGDOM

I am concerned that not only is it short sighted to build where flooding is such a risk but also because of the increased effects on an already over-loaded A27. Additional pressure on the schools and moreover an even greater strain on our Hospitals which are already severely stretched both relative to capacity and finance,

 Helen Campbell SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

The roads, schools and resources can barely cope now. What about jobs, if the houses are for non Lancing and Sompting residents, where will they be coming from and why. Sompting and Lancing have a reason balance of houses and green. It should be left alone.

 nicholas pigott SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

To keep sompting identity

 Sheila Sharman SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

We live in a lovely community that is threatened by this development which will impact on so many lives.

 caitlyn howcroft LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Lancing is over-populated as it is. with around 19,000 people living here already. These houses will not only mean more and more people living in Lancing, causing a even bigger over-population. But the local schools might not even be able to educate the people who will live in these houses. It's a ridiculous idea. And helps to ruin our landscape, as if lancing isn't ugly enough without these extras

 BRAIN MESQUITTA LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Over-developed as it is and on a flood plain.

 BRAIN MESQUITTA LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Lancing is already one of the biggest 'Villages' in Britain at this rate it will become a City. The roads and water drainage cannot cope with this scale of building.

 Diana Holbourn EPSOM, UNITED KINGDOM

8 We could do without a greater risk of flooding and possibly costly property damage.

 Elaine Ansell WORTHING, UNITED KINGDOM

Is it legal to build on a flood plain???Not for me thank you !

 Teemu Pynnonen LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

There are plenty houses around Lancing already, no need for any more to be build.

 Kate Johnson LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Don't we have enough disasters without creating another!

 angela Osborne SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

This will ruin the village I love

 Chloe Barter LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

very close to my house concerned about increasing traffic congestion already takes >20mins to get out of Lancing in the morning, there isn't enough infrastructure to support more houses e.g. schools, Dr's. I am concerned about flooding in the area

 sandra marshall-ealey BRIGHTON, UNITED KINGDOM

I live there.

 Sophie Fairbairn LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

This development will be a disaster for Lancing

 Sandra Nutter SOMPTING, UNITED KINGDOM

How can you build on a flood plain which means mortgages and insurance will be difficult to purchase

 jennifer hopkins CHELTENHAM, UNITED KINGDOM

Flood plains should not be built on - risks of flooding should be minimised instead of irresponsible decisions leading to more.

9  Jacqueline Smith LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Because I live in Lancing

 John Wellfare LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

We need to keep the strategic gaps, both are flood plains, shouldnt be built on. Homes will not get insurance. Lancing doesnt need mnore traffic.

 Sue Wellfare LANCING, ENGLAND, UNITED KINGDOM, UNITED KINGDOM

This is a flood plain, we've already had problems with houses in the area, Lancing can't cope with any more trafffic.

 Mike Doyle WORTHING, UNITED KINGDOM

Green spaces are important for birds and other wildlife. The area in question is an important area for wintering and migrating birds, Develop it and its lost forever.

Additionally its a flood plain, the clue is in the name "flood"!

 Mio Shibata DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

Floodplains not only protect man-made structures, they are also a vital part of the ecosystem. Please give consideration to the environment that makes the area beautiful and environmentally rich. Thank you.

 Sarah Mugford NORWICH, UNITED KINGDOM

Friend of Lydia Schilbach and flood plains shouldn't be built on.

 Crazey Wizdom LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Because building on flood planes in madness!

 mike wheat LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

this is a FLOOD PLANE, and should be kept clear and GREEN.

 Stephen Young DEAL, UNITED KINGDOM

10 My family Is an old Shoreham family and I was brought up in Shoreham, where my extended family still lives. I am frequent visitor and supporter of tbe communiity and area.

 Christine Collingham LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

We live here and do not need or want any further flooding and there is too much being built in the area as it is at the moment. We have a right to live without the fear of being flooded out of our homes.

 Lesley Ackerman LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

I was born in Lancing and have spent my life here. The rural areas surrounding us is very important to our future generations. It also is a haven for wildlife and often I have seen deers in that area as an example. Lancing is beautifully contained and surrounded by rural land - lets keep it that way and not be part of the mass cornurbation of housing along the South Coast

 nicholas scott LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Nicholas scott

 Vicki Edwards WORTHING, UNITED KINGDOM

This site is a flood plain that carries water from the Downs into the sea, helped by a series of ditches. Last winter it reached saturation and large areas of existing housing and the A27 were flooded.

 Pauline Cory WORTHING, UNITED KINGDOM

I live very close to this area and have seend first-hand the appalling damage caused by the insanity of builidng on flood plains.

 Amy Fagg WORTHING, UNITED KINGDOM

I can't believe how stupid these people are to think this is a safe idea.

 Pauline Cory WORTHING, UNITED KINGDOM

Because it's insane to build on flood plains. Please go take your homes to a place where there is lots of space and stop inflicting yet more houses on the very over- crowded south east - we are bursting at the seams already and forget trying to move

11 about at peak traffic times - given up on that totally. I didn't choose to live in and the coastal strip is almost as bad now.

 angela chandler LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

we live here

 Russell Rowley LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Utter madness!!! Congested A27 already at peak times, local infrastructure wont be able to sustain a further 600 homes without millions being spent-totally unrealistic! Flooding is already an issue which will only be made worse.

 jane cogan LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Over development, flooding, more traffic congestion,

 Julie Garrard SOUTHWICK, UNITED KINGDOM

Also on behalf of Frances and David Garrard who have lived in their house on Lancing beach for more than 60 years. Potential for existing flood problems to increase in the area adversely affecting my parents house, and problems with traffic in the area affecting everyone who needs to use the roads round there. Too many green gaps are being filled reducing the wildlife in the area and adversely affecting the bees which from research seem to thrive in semi ueban areas where there are no pesticides.

 Fiona McNealy LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Because it is very prone to flooding, and more housing will exacerbate this problem. It is also a strategic gap which separates us from Shoreham, and this should stay

 Amber Maddox SHOREHAM-BY-SEA, UNITED KINGDOM

This is an area of environmental importance, please do not build on it.

 Gifford Banks WORTHING, UNITED KINGDOM

Green spaces need protecting not developing on!

 sarah marshadlam WORTHING, UNITED KINGDOM

12 Why continue to build on our beautiful countryside? Creating more hideous new homes will mean more traffic, more stress on local services and emplyment. It's crazy

 Tamara Labelle LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

The area in question is on a flood plain & has underground streams, water displacement will occur if land built on. Drainage is poor as it is a clay soil which adds to flooding likelihood. There is already flooding for local residents during heavy rain, which inc sewage. The A27 is heavily congested in the rush hour already, it can't cope with anymore traffic.

 Adrienne Lowe LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

We already have flooding issues so how is building on the flood plain going to affect the rest of us?

 Amanda Elmer LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

I live right next to it

 Zoe Wattam LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

I don't think Mash barn and surrounding areas will cope with this development, including huge amounts of extra traffic we are likely to see anyway with B&H Albion, its flood risk and should not be developed on for that reason alone.

 sarah reeve LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

It's obviously a gap for a reason??

 Dan Thompson WORTHING, UNITED KINGDOM

I come from a Lancing family and lived (until a month ago) in Worthing; we need to stop the sprawl and keep gaps between Brighton and Littlehampton.

 S. Clark LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Flooding, Traffic, Pollution, further destruction of wildlife to this immediate area.

 Rebecca Jarvis LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

13 Having lived in lancing/sompting all my life I am saddened to see our 2 lovely village slowly being turned into towns. I love walking down the street and knowing everybody. We live in a beautiful place why destroy it?

 PHILIP WORRON LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

must not build on flood plane west beach will flood more and so will sourounding area look at last year the increse in flooding due to football pitches being built .we are getting global warming higher tides so risk of homes flooding getting higher must not build here ever

 Katie Silver LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

More traffic and more flooding-not good for residents or visitors.

 Sally Hails LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

I live on Mash Barn and i am already surrounded by the flood plain on 3 sides and if the houses go ahead i will be on the flood plain and my insurance will go up and i lose all my personal belongings and irreplaceable items in a flood

 Ashleigh Cobby LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Because I live right by here and I don't want it to happen lancing is crowded as it is dont make it worse

 Jacque Carter LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

It is part of the flood plain!

 Marion Page LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

We had flooding last winter and this will make things worse.

 Anne-Marie Lock LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

The knock on effects to current residents would be devastating if this area has any development. There are too many underground streams that already cause flooding problems in the area

 Andrew Egginton LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

14 Adur planning should ask them selves where will they build after the gap has been built on, and build there next and save the flood plan.

 Linda Wake LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

I live on Mash Barn and the proposed development would have devastating flood risks to all those living nearby. The Gap needs to stay as a gap.

 KIM BASTABLE LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

We live backing onto the proposed site and fear that the flooding potential is huge, since the golf course was started we have had trouble with flooding and sewers and feel more building work on this land will have devastating results for the local residents

 Paul Ockenden SHOREHAM-BY-SEA, UNITED KINGDOM

It's madness to build on a flood plain.

 daphne mcAlear SHOREHAM BY SEA, UNITED KINGDOM

There just isn't enough infrastructure to take any more development. The area has been grossly overdeveloped and has lost so much of its feel of real community. I agree with all that has been said about the A27, it is a nightmare somedays to travel between Shoreham and Worthing. Daphne McAlear

 colin skelding LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

flooding & traffic

 Karen McNie LANCING , UNITED KINGDOM

Building on an existing flood plain is just a ridiculous prospect. When the homes that are already in place flood and the residents suffer damage to their property especially at holiday time is bad enough. So why then create more homes increasing risks to those of us already living here. The busy A27 is another matter. The road is busy enough as it is without the additional traffic this development would create.

 PAMELA BARLOW LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

BUILDING ON A FLOOD PLAIN IS MADNESS. WE ALREADY HAVE A HUGE FOOTBALL ACADEMY BEING BUILT ON THE FLOOD PLAIN. THE A27 IS CONGESTED ALREADY

15 WITHOUT BUILDING 600 HOMES, THE FRAFFIC WILL INCREASE WITH THE FOOTBALL ACADEMY.

 Marion Taylor LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

To build on what is a flood plane is utterly ridiculous. I live nearly opposite the said site for developement and most winters it is under water.

 Bill Freeman LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Unbelievable! The best mitigation for the area drainage is to leave it as a flood plain. Adur has totally ignored the two months of hell residents north and south of Lancing endured last Christmas with flooded properties, loss of sewerage and gas because of the government push for housing.

Commonsense must prevail. There must be absolutely no further development of this highly sensitive area (which has a drainage fall of only a metre across its 2 miles) for the well being of the community.

And as for the two roundabout options on the A27 – the Highways Agency must be mad to say either one would be acceptable.

Adur must stand up to the government and do what is right for the wellbeing of its rate paying community

 Paul Lewis LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

This will cause big problems with bad weather & the roads can not take that amount of traffic, plus it would close the airport as they would all complain about the noise

 maureen simmons LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

local resident opposed to building on a flood plain and an already overloaded road

 maureen simmons LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

local flooding congestion on a27 already vbad we have already been subjected to this, and will be again if this ludicrous scheme goes ahead

 Val Oxley LANCING GB, UNITED KINGDOM

Last Christmas we had no Gas due to the flooding on Xmas Day.

16  Allen Rowland LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Local flooding and congestion of the a27

 ALAN KERSEY LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

because any development in this area will result in flooding in my area

 Joy Pearce LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

I can't think of a more ludicrous place to develop houses etc. Last year's flooding are well documented and development of any kind would exacerbate the problems. This is also the designated Lancing/Shoreham natural gap which should be preserved. This is the only area that allows excess water to drain into river Adur.

 Wendy Dowse LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Because I live to the south of this proposed development and building on the flood plain puts all existing properties at greater risk of flooding from groundwater even if fluvial and pluvial risks are addressed.

 kevin barnett LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

i was flooded last year at this spot

 James Rand LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Because I live in a property particularly affected by the danger of flooding and any potential increase in the risk is of vital concern to me.

 Paul Blanchard LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

Building on a flood plain will cause flooding problems to properties in close proximity to the site.

 JOHN BAILEY LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

there should be no building on flood plains

 ceri hams BRIGHTON, UNITED KINGDOM

I will inherit a property in this area and want to protect it for the future.

17  Jenny Williams LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

The existing flood plain should be allowed to do its job. If covered by concrete the water will run off to flood neighbouring residential areas.

 Christina Patmore LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM

Family member's home in the area

 Gloria Eveleigh LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

The danger of flooding will increase if this area is built on.

 Geoffrey Patmore LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

The NMF development is on a functioning flood plain and will have devastating flood consequences for residents at West Beach ,Willowbrook farm Mash barn lane , lancing Manor surrounding the flood plain and lancing as a whole. The displacement of groundwater plus the drainage from 650 new properties will wreak havoc as experience at Xmas 2012

 Robin Rogers WORTHING, UNITED KINGDOM

It's time to protect residents, we were elected to do just that.

 Steve Martin LANCING, UNITED KINGDOM

It is these spaces that define our towns and will flood without doubt not to mention confining activities at Shoreham airport ,endangering the wild life and restrict current recreational activities.

 jemima bland SHOREHAM-BY-SEA, UNITED KINGDOM 5000 residents are opposed to this development because of flood risks - and they know what they are talking about! Thanks for your support
