Annual Report 2018 ACTIVITY REPORT 2018 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT In 2018, the Amazon Fund completed ten years of existence. During this decade, it surpassed the mark of 100 approved projects, with more than R$ 1 billion in financial support to projects that reconcile environmental conservation with the sustainable development of the Amazon region. The Amazon Fund’s track record has been positive not only in quantitative aspects, with the growth of donations received, projects approved and disbursements of resources; but also in qualitative aspects of its performance, such as wide territorial distribution, the variety of supported activities and implementing institutions, the capillarity reached in the support to the Amazon Fund’s priority public and the periodic review of the focuses of support with the purpose of ensuring effectiveness in the destination of the resources. The Amazon Fund is a mechanism of climate financing based on the concept of payment for results obtained in the reduction of emissions of greenhouse gases caused by deforestation. By valuing the ecosystem services provided by the Amazon to Brazil and to the world, it raises contributions from the world and from Brazil to protect the forest, in a process in which all benefit. The importance of the Amazon is intrinsically linked to the competitiveness of the Brazilian agribusiness in the global market, as well as to the electricity generation capacity of hydroelectric plants in the rest of the country, since forests are a key element in the rain cycle of the continent. Thus, forest conservation is based on a comprehensive set of actions of national interest, including a new climate economy and the valorization of social, environmental, cultural and demographic assets of the country. As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Amazon Fund, we express our appreciation to the donors for their support to the fund over time, which has translated into actions for the sustainable development of Brazil. We also thank all present and past members of Amazon Fund’s Steering Committee, as well as those responsible for implementing the supported projects and those who are somehow part of the fund’s history. We reiterate our commitment to continually improve the management of the Amazon Fund, always seeking to increase its positive impacts, in harmony with the guidelines issued by its Steering Committee. Objetivo: Verificar a existência de padrões de casos de malária em consonância com os regimes fluviométricos da bacia amazônica. Métodos: Foram utilizados métodos de estatística descritiva e inferencial nos dados de casos de malária e nível d’água para 35 municípios do estado do Amazonas, no período de 2003 a 2014. Resultados: A existência de uma tendência que module a sazonalidade dos casos de malária, devido a períodos distintos de inundação dos rios, foi demonstrada. Diferenças foram observadas na variabilidade hidrológica anual, acompanhada por diferentes padrões de casos de malária, mostrando uma tendência de remodelação do perfil epidemiológico em função do pulso de inundação. Conclusão: O estudo sugere a implementação de estratégias regionais e locais, considerando os regimes hidrológicos da Bacia Amazônica, possibilitando ações municipais de atenuação da malária no estado do Amazonas.     ANÁLISE DE RESULTADOS AMAZONAS A pesquisa realizada no âmbito do projeto Vulnerabilidade à Mudança do Clima avaliou a vulnerabilidade à mudança do clima nos 62 municípios do estado do Apresentação Amazonas. As informações destacadas neste documento reúnem microanálises de alguns dados obtidos a partir do estudo desenvolvido. Todos os resultados da pesquisa serão disponibilizados em uma publicação, a ser lançada ainda neste semestre. Nesse item, são utilizadas projeções de temperatura para o período 2041-2070 em relação ao presente. O que se observou foi que poderá haver um aumento na temperatura em todos os municípios amazonenses. Entretanto, essas variações poderão ocorrer em regiões bem definidas no mapa. Toda a região nordeste Dias mais (incluindo a região metropolitana de Manaus) e da Calha do Rio Purus (Lábrea, quentes Pauini e Boca do Acre) serão as que poderão apresentar as maiores variações na temperatura futura, com incremento de até 5°C. A região sudeste do estado foi a que apresentou uma vulnerabilidade alta com possíveis elevações de até 4,5°C. Já a região Central do estado e do Alto Rio Negro foram as que apresentaram as menores alterações, com um aumento de até 3,5°C. MAPA 1 – Alteração de Temperatura Máxima para o período de 2041-2070 ANÁLISE DE RESULTADOS AMAZONAS Este parâmetro indica um extremo climático relacionado à precipitação total anual nos dias úmidos e a redução ou aumento mostra que pode haver alteração do regime de chuvas observado para o ano. É possível indicar no mapa que a maior parte do estado poderá apresentar uma diminuição percentual da quantidade de chuva no futuro.

Resumo A proposta deste artigo se estrutura a partir das entrevistas e vivências de campo de pesquisa no município de Pauini, região do sul do estado do Amazonas. A discussão faz parte de um recorte da pesquisa de doutorado em andamento sobre histórias de resistência indígena em Pauini e parte, especialmente, das reflexões produzidas a partir de um conjunto de entrevistas publicadas no livro “Mineração e garimpo em terras tradicionalmente ocupadas: conflitos sociais e mobilizações étnicas”. A presença de dragas e flutuantes próximos à comunidade Santa Maria, no rio Pauini, preocupa os povos indígenas e comunidades tradicionais que vivem naquela região. A área em que o rio se localiza está em processo de reivindicação por comunidades ribeirinhas e também pelos Apurinã da Terra Indígena Kapyra/Kanakury e, mais recentemente, o governo do estado do Amazonas estuda a destinação da área para a criação de uma reserva. O garimpo ilegal surge como uma sombra que ameaça as populações e exige medidas de resistência uma vez que potencializa o desmatamento e os conflitos sociais na região. O material foi coletado em 2019 por entrevistas, análise de documentos públicos e pesquisa de campo. Registro e evidências visuais das dragas foram evitadas por segurança dos envolvidos.
