This year, think about 2-3 sets of each exercise. adding strength training into your routine. Single Leg Squats Wall Sit There are a few common misconceptions about strength training that I would like to touch on.

1. As a runner, you think that you don’t have time to add in another component of training to your schedule. We are all busy. In this day and age, it seems like everyone I know is going full speed all the time. It is not necessary to spend an hour in the gym in order for it to be effective. Adding in Side Lunges some core work when you get up in the morning, or spending 15 minutes of your lunch break doing some push ups, pull ups, squat, lunges, and plyometrics will benefit you.

3. You don’t want to overdo it by adding in another activity. Strength training will DE- CREASE your chance of injury. It helps correct muscle imbalances, in addition to improving balance and posture. Muscle imbalances are one of the leading causes of injury. Strength training, especially exer- cises that utilize one side of the body at a time (for example, single leg squats) is a great way to balance out the body. If you Plank (try holding for 30-60 seconds) have had previous injuries, you are more likely to have a reoccurrence, but strength- ening the muscles around the area will help to reduce that chance greatly. The Huntsville Track Club reserves the right to reject ads that are judged not to be in the best interest of members, or in keeping with the image of the HTC, or that would conflict with our race sponsors, or not meet the requirements of our non-profit mail- ing permit. The permit limits the content of advertising to races, running products, and running services. If you have a question please check with us before the 6th of the month to be sure your ad meets these requirements.
