TUESDAY, 22 OCTOBER 2019 THE WEEKLY WRAP: DON'T YEARLING ACTION RETURNS TO DEAUVILLE FOR ARQANA OCTOBER By Emma Berry DREAM IT'S OVER DEAUVILLE, France-There is little let-up in the packed European sales calendar. Tattersalls brought down the shutters on its October marathon on Saturday afternoon but by Monday morning Goffs was back in action with its Autumn Sale and today (Tuesday) sees the start of the four-day Arqana October Sale. This understudy to the flamboyant August yearling sale in Deauville has traditionally been conducted in two parts but this year it has a distinct grading system for each day, with the seemingly strongest set of yearlings offered in the opening session. The sale's clash with a three-day race meeting in the town means that the first two days of trade will not begin until 3 p.m. That may be just as well for those looking at yearlings on Monday who had to spend plenty of time dodging heavy seaside showers. Cont. p5 IN TDN AMERICA TODAY Kameko (left), will bid to reverse the Royal Lodge form with Royal Dornoch in the G1 Vertem Futurity Trophy. | Racing Post FASIG-TIPTON KY OCTOBER BEGAN MONDAY The Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearlings Sale began in Lexington, KY on Monday. The trainer=s Classic crop is headlined by the likes of Ten Sovereigns (Ire) (No Nay Never) and G1 Vertem Futurity Trophy S. winner Magna Grecia (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), and O=Brien said that better weather conditions than last year has allowed his team a smoother start to 2019. SUNDAY, 21 APRIL 2019 TOO DARN HOT WILL PRETTY POLLYANNA STILL UNDER GUINEAS CONSIDERATION MISS GUINEAS Group 1 winner Pretty Pollyanna (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}), who won the G1 Darley Prix Morny in August, is still under consideration for the May 5 G1 QIPCO 1000 Guineas at Newmarket trainer Michael Bell told Racing Post on Saturday. Racing in the colours of Bill and Tim Gredley, the bay was originally aimed at the G3 Nell Gwyn S. which went the way of Qabala (Scat Daddy) at HQ on Apr. 16. Also successful in the G2 Duchess of Cambridge S. last July, Pretty Pollyanna=s connections are considering turning the filly back in trip and pointing toward the G1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot in June. She was last seen running third to Iridessa (Ire) (Ruler of the World {Ire}) in the G1 Fillies= Mile at Newmarket on Oct. 12. AThere's no definite decision, but the Guineas is still very much on the table," said Bell to Racing Post. "The filly looks well and we just need to get through another couple of tests. She's not a Too Darn Hot winning the Dewhurst | Racingfotos.com confirmed runner, but at this stage it's on the table and I'd say intended." FRIDAY, 23 AUGUST 2019 NUNTHORPE HEADLINES FRIDAY BONANZA TEN UP After two heady days at York=s Ebor festival, Friday=s card is FOR ENABLE arguably the best of the four over the week with the G1 Coolmore Nunthorpe S. taking centre stage. In a fascinating encounter between Shadwell=s Battaash (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) and the sponsors= Ten Sovereigns (Ire) (No Nay Never), with last year=s runner-up Mabs Cross (GB) (Dutch Art {GB}) thrown into the mix, this renewal of the ultimate flat speed test stands up to some of the recent gems the Knavesmire faithful has witnessed. In 2017, Battaash did everything wrong in the preliminaries before finishing fourth and whereas his behaviour was vastly different when coming back 12 months ago, the result was the same. Angus Gold remains unconvinced that there is a York hoodoo hanging over the operation=s star. AI see no reason why York wouldn=t suit him,@ he said. SUNDAY, 14 JULY 2019 JAPAN TAKES AIM AT THE GRAND PRIX TEN SOVEREIGNS STORMS ParisLongchamp plays its part in the Bastille Day celebrations BACK IN THE JULY CUP on Sunday, when the G1 Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris is the focus. Generally the preserve of Andre Fabre, it looks likely to go west this year with Aidan O=Brien saddling the impressive G2 King Edward VII S. winner Japan (GB) (Galileo {Ire}). Third in the G1 Epsom Derby on June 1, last year=s G2 Beresford S. scorer went through that June 21 Royal Ascot contest with a casual air to suggest he could take high rank among the stable=s Arc candidates. This is the ideal testing ground for the October showpiece and the Ballydoyle handler said, AJapan is good and everything seems fine since Ascot. He had a little bit of a setback in the spring and that is why he just barely made the run at York. We had to wait and see how he was after York and that is why we felt he was just about ready to run in the Derby. He ran a very nice race there.@ Ten Sovereigns and Ryan Moore | racingfotos.com Cont. p10 If there was an element of doubt that >TDN Rising Star= Ten Sovereigns (Ire) (No Nay Never) retained either the ability or enthusiasm that had seen him garner a G1 Middle Park S., they were firmly put aside on Saturday as Ryan Moore dominated Newmarket=s G1 Darley July Cup. While the vibes surrounding Ballydoyle=s beau ideal were understandably lukewarm in the lead-up after a flat effort when fourth in the G1 Commonwealth Cup, the significant morning gamble that took place suggested those in the know were bullish.
