Brief Industrial Profile of District

1. General Characteristics of the District Budgam is the smallest district in & covering 1% area of the whole state and 6% of the total population of the state. The district is bounded by the of and in the north, in the south and the border in the south-west. Budgam is one of the youngest districts of the state of J & K, carved out from the erstwhile in 1979. Budgam offers many stunning locales and has tremendous tourism potential that has largely remained unexplored. The worth visiting places are Tosamaidan, Nilnag and Khag

1.1 Location & Geographical Area.

District covers the 1371 sq.kms area. is bounded by the districts of Baramulla and Srinagar in the north side, Pulwama in the south side and the Poonch border in the south- westside. Budgam is one of the youngest districts of the State, carved out as it was from the erstwhile District Srinagar in 1979. Situated at an average height of 5,281 ft above sea-level and at 75 deg ree E longitude and 34 degree N latitude, the district was known as Deedmarbag in ancient-times.

1.2 Topography

The general topography of the area is both mountainous and plain. It is mixed with both mountainous and plain areas. The climate is of the temperate type with the upper-reaches receiving heavy snowfall in winter. The average annual rainfall of the district is 585 mm. While the southern and south-western parts are mostly hilly, the eastern and northern parts are relatively plain. The average height of the mountains is 1,610 meters. The soil is loose and m ostly denuded karewas dot the landscape. The climate of district Budgam is of temperate type. The annual average rainfall is 585 mm

The recorded Forest area in the district is 1371 Sq. Kms. which constitutes 34.79 % of geographical area of the State. The total Forests area in the districtis recorded as 477 Sq km .
