Heritage Week is co-ordinated by the Heritage Council with support from the Department of Culture, Heritage & the Gaeltacht & Fáilte Ireland. It is part of European Heritage Days, a joint initiative of the Council of Europe & the European Commission.

The aim of Heritage Week is to build awareness of our built, natural & cultural heritage thereby encouraging its conservation and preservation. The Heritage Week theme for 2017 is Heritage and Nature.
