A Pukekohe conservationist has been honoured for his dedication to restoring New Zealand’s native plant life. Hatch was named an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to horticulture in the 2017 New Year Honours. Better known as Terry, Hatch first moved from Essex, England, to New Zealand 53 years ago. The plant propagator said he started working in horticulture as a 15-year-old. ‘‘I just love plants, I’m a plant nut.’’ Hatch’s love of growing plants has taken him across the globe and won him many accolades.
