McGinnis* Economic equality is often said to be the key problem of our time. But information technol- ogy dematerializes the world in ways that are helpful to the ninety-nine percent, because informa- tion can be shared. This Article looks at how one fruit of the information revolution—the sharing economy—has important equalizing features on both its supply and demand sides. First, on the supply side, the intermediaries in the sharing economy, like Airbnb and Uber, allow owners of housing and cars to monetize their most important capital assets. The gig aspect of this economy creates spot markets in jobs that have flexible hours and monetizes people’s passions, such as cooking meals in their home. Such benefits make these jobs even more valuable than the earnings that show up imperfectly in income statistics.

  • Transit App Moovit Expands Crowdsourcing to Masses
Transit App Moovit Expands Crowdsourcing to Masses Version 4.13 for Android Further Empowers Users to Contribute Real-Time Transit Information, Such As Station Location Closures and Track Maintenance Updates SAN FRANCISCO – August 4, 2016 Moovit, the world’s leading local transit app, is taking its foundation in crowdsourced data one step further by opening editing capabilities to all. Previously only available to members of the Moovit Community program, the new feature allows transit riders to help others to have the most up-to-date transportation information so that the transit experience is better for all. The newly-released Moovit version 4.13 for Android is available for immediate download. Now, any Moovit user can help to suggest edits to data within the app, including edits to many attributes of a station, like its location on the map, name and whether it is permanently inoperative. Due to the way some data is collected, occasionally a station icon will be shown on the map near where the station is located (across the street, or a few yards away, for example), but not actually in its precise location. When planning a trip via the app, the station icon location on the map is taken into consideration in the routes a user will receive. If the station is actually located across the street from where the icon is seen on the map, the user may find their route inaccurate if they have to walk longer than expected to find the entrance. The new update, coupled with Moovit’s existing level of service reporting capabilities – such as elevator malfunction, cleanliness or crowdedness updates – gives users a comprehensive ability to quickly spot discrepancies and make changes that can help to improve the overall experience of their fellow transit riders, and even potentially avoid transit congestion, maintenance delays or other issues.

  • The Top 7 International Ride-Sharing Apps
Locations Resource Artciles Beyond Uber: The Top 7 International Ride-Sharing Apps Need a Lyft? In an Uber rush? Chances are good that if you’re residing in the United States, both these questions have taken on double meanings in recent years. From the most urbanized to isolated societies, applications such as Lyft and Uber have brought a new form of transportation, known as ridesharing, to the masses. As part of the greater sharing economy, or through the uberisation effect, these applications take advantage of our telecommunication networks and smart devices to make our lives easier. In short, they do this by ultimately removing the larger companies from the equation and facilitating mutually benecial peer-to-peer interactions. Ride-sharing is a great example for this, as anyone who has used an associated application can attest. When using Uber, for instance, a customer must only broadcast their need for a ride to a specic destination, and any registered nearby driver may accept. Uber, of course, takes its cut from the fares, but otherwise, the transaction is solely between the consenting driver and customer. For many in the world, Uber has become more than a household name for ride-sharing applications, becoming more akin to the industry as a whole, rather than a specic brand. This is in the same regard as to how Kleenex has superseded tissue paper, despite other brands available on the market. That said, there are actually several competitors to Uber outside of the United States. If you’re traveling abroad, having some knowledge of them, as well as their existence, might save you when you need it most, particularly if your destination is not supported by the company you’re familiar with.

2/18/2020 How Uber Won The Rideshare Wars and What Comes Next CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE | HOW UBER WON THE RIDESHARE WARS AND WHAT COMES NEXT How Uber Won The Rideshare Wars and What Comes Next How Uber won the first phase of the rideshare war and how cabs, competitors, and car companies are battling back. BY ELYSE DUPRE — AUGUST 29, 2016 VIEW GALLERY https://www.dmnews.com/customer-experience/article/13035536/how-uber-won-the-rideshare-wars-and-what-comes-next 1/18 2/18/2020 How Uber Won The Rideshare Wars and What Comes Next View Gallery In 2011, two University of Michigan alums Adrian Fortino and Jahan Khanna partnered with venture capitalist Sunil Paul to revolutionize how people got from point A to point B quickly without having to do much. The company was Sidecar, and the idea was simple: “We're going to replace your car with your iPhone,” Fortino explains. Sidecar did not lack competition. Around this time, the taxi industry was experimenting with new ways to make it easier for individuals to summon cars. And entrepreneurs, frustrated with wait times, imagined new ways to hire someone to drive them around. Multiple companies formed to solve this need, including one that is now considered a global powerhouse: Uber. By the time Sidecar went into beta testing in February 2012, Uber, or UberCab as it was originally known when it was founded in 2009, had raised at least $37.5 million at a $330 million post-money valuation, according to VentureBeat. Lyft followed shortly after when it went into beta in mid 2012, boasting more than $7 million in funding, according to TechCrunch's figures.

FARGO MOORHEAD BUS ROUTES ANDROID APPLICATION A Paper Submitted to the Graduate Faculty of the North Dakota State University of Agriculture and Applied Science By Avijeet Tomer In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements For the Degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE Major Department: Computer Science January 2013 Fargo, North Dakota North Dakota State University Graduate School Title FARGO MOORHEAD BUS ROUTES ANDROID APPLICATION By AVIJEET TOMER The Supervisory Committee certifies that this disquisition complies with North Dakota State University’s regulations and meets the accepted standards for the degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE SUPERVISORY COMMITTEE: Dr. Gursimran Walia Chair Dr. Kendall E. Nygard Dr. Simone Ludwig Dr. Joseph G. Szmerekovsky Approved by Department Chair: 1/28/2013 Dr. Kenneth Magel Date Signature ABSTRACT Fargo and Moorhead have good public transportation provided by Metro Area Transit bus service. Google Maps Navigation, which provides public transportation routes and directions in several major cities, is not available in Fargo or Moorhead, so bus users have to either carry and use printed maps provided by MATBUS to determine the bus routes they need to take to reach their destination, or if they have a smartphone with internet connectivity, they can visit MATBUS website to view the maps on their device. This paper examines the inconveniences of both procedures like using a big printed map outside in Fargo winter, or panning across an approximately A0 sized PDF (actual dimensions are 30.67 inches width and 46.67 inches height) on the small screen of a smartphone and presents a tool for Android-based smartphone users to alleviate some of those inconveniences.

Transport in the Digital Age Disruptive Trends for Smart Mobility March 2015 Contents Foreword 1 Executive summary 2 Rising demand for transport 3 Trends in digital age transport 4 User centred 6 Integrated and intelligent 8 Pricing and payments 11 Automation and safety 14 Public and private innovation 17 Looking ahead 19 About the authors 20 Endnotes 21 Foreword Change has already arrived in transport. The current wave of digital innovation, which has brought us travel planning on our smartphones and far greater access to customer information, was predicted in our 2012 Deloitte University Press publication and the pace of change is accelerating. In the last three years digital disruption has become more widespread and companies like Uber have grown to become multi-billion dollar global enterprises. It is now timely to update our research and to examine the trends that we believe will be relevant to the future of the metro, rail, road, air and automotive industries. Smart mobility strives to integrate all modes of transport to provide the vision of a seamless end to end journey experience. Technology has a major role to play as the transport sector now stands on the brink of great change, where digital innovation will go further to bring about improvements in operations, asset management and the delivery of capital programmes. As the global population in urban areas reaches four billion, our current research seeks to stimulate debate about the future transport services passengers desire and how digital innovation can support this, and provide a framework for predicting the trends that will shape the transport industry.
