Frequently Asked Questions Frequently Asked Questions 1) Are the Microsoft Office licenses only for school related work? The five free licenses can be used for personal use as well. The school does not track the licensing; it is a perk from Microsoft for being part of the Office 365 domain. 2) Do the licenses expire at any time? The 5 free licenses will be active as long as your student is enrolled at Iroquois. 3) Is the payment for the Protection Plan an automatic deduction from the bank account associated with RevTrak? Payments through RevTrak are not automatic. If a claim needs to be submitted for damage, then you will be billed appropriately. 4) What kind of protection and/or security measures are on the laptops to prevent students from accessing inappropriate material? Iroquois uses an Internet content filtering service that follows the student home. This means that any websites the students are blocked from while at Iroquois, they will also be blocked from accessing those sites while home on your wireless. All internet usage is first routed through Iroquois so that it can be monitored and filtered. Email is also monitored and filtered by blocking any email that is sent using certain key words and phrases. There are also several other security measures in place to ensure a safe learning environment for the student. 5) Does the student have to bring the stylus home to do their work? Is it attached to the computer? Can they leave the stylus at home and just bring the laptop? Students are not required to bring the stylus home. Any stylus, or even your finger, can be used to utilize the touchscreen capabilities of your laptop. 6) Is auto-correct turned off when typing in Microsoft Office? How can the parents turn auto- correct off? By default, autocorrect is enabled for the student. To type without auto-correct please use the program WordPad. WordPad can be found by typing in the search bar in the lower left portion of the screen. 7) Can students work offline and fully utilize the laptops if their home does not have wireless? Any work done in the Microsoft Office Suite (OneNote, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher) without an internet connection will sync back to the student’s account when the computer is back on the school network. 8) Will the students have the ability to share their work with other students, teachers, and parents? Students will have the ability to share with both students and teachers. 9) Can you “share” with a parent even though they do not have an @iroquoiscsd.org address? Sharing is limited to people that are within the Iroquois organization. This includes employees and students. 10) What is the computer model being given to the students? The model we are using for the 2016-2017 school year is a Dell Latitude 3160 touchscreen. 11) Is the camera active, is there an indicator to show when the camera is being used, can the camera be shut off if the parents request it to be turned off? There is not an indicator for when the camera is in use. All of our current laptops that are being used throughout the district have cameras built in and there has been very few issues with them. Any camera use must first be authorized by the teacher. 12) Will Skype be offered to students through Office 365? Due to safety restrictions, Skype is currently turned off for students. Skype is accessible to teachers for instructional purposes within the classroom. 13) Is Office 365 compatible with a Mac? Yes. Office 365 is entirely web based and can be utilized on any device that has an internet connection. 14) Can the students put stickers on the laptops to customize them? Student customization (stickers, skins, etc) is not allowed. In some cases, the laptop may need to be returned to the company for warranty work, customizations can cause issues with certain manufacturers. However, removable protective cases can be used. 15) Is damage to the hard drive covered under the protection plan, or any other warranty? Any failure to the hard drive will be covered under warranty. 16) Does the student get the same laptop back every year? Yes, every year students will receive the same laptop that they had the previous year. Anticipated life span of the laptops is 4 years, after which a new laptop will be assigned to the student. 17) Will parents with multiple children have to purchase the Protection Plan for each child? Yes, the Protection Plan only covers one device. Therefore, parents that wish to have their children bring their laptop home will have to enroll in the Protection Plan for EACH child. .
