The Fabulous Ambassadors the World’S Premiere Rock N Roll Revival and Elvis Tribute Band The Fabulous Ambassadors The World’s Premiere Rock N Roll Revival and Elvis Tribute Band The Fabulous Ambassadors were originally 2 sets of brothers. At the ages of 10 and 12 Dan and Joe Lentino with Fred and Tom Reich were opening for several national acts like Johnny Cash and June Carter and had numerous television appearances. As the novelty of the ages wore off in the early 70’s Dan Lentino formed a Rock N Roll revival band known as The Fabulous Ambassadors that became very successful in the Chicago area. In 1972, the first time Lentino saw Elvis perform live, the band brought in a new 16-year-old lead singer that looked and sounded just like Elvis. His name was Rick Saucedo. The new combination caused the audiences to go crazy. Dan took Rick under his management and training and five years later, just after Elvis passed away, Dan brought Rick and the Ambassadors to Broadway where he directed the show ‘Elvis the Legend Lives’ which ran at the famous Palace Theater in New York for 16 weeks. They incorporated Elvis’ own backup singers, the legendary Jordanaires in the show as well as some of Elvis’ own musicians, like drummer DJ Fontana. The show also toured the US and Canada which included a successful run at the Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas. Following that show, Lentino produced and directed a series of successful tours featuring some of the greatest tribute artists on the continent all accompanied by the Fabulous Ambassadors. The Ambassadors have been featured in The Elvis Memorial Concert Tour, 3 Faces of the King and currently, the highly successful and long running Elvis Birthday Tribute Tour. In 1983 the Ambassadors enjoyed their own success again with a regional and European hit record. The band established a 30-year friendship and business association with The Jordanaires and DJ Fontana. That is actually longer than they knew or worked with Elvis. Over many years the band had formed close friendships and business relationships with JD Sumner and the Stamps, Charlie Hodge, Jerry Scheff, and Joe Esposito, Elvis’ right hand man, road manger, and undisputedly the man who was closest to Elvis. For the last eight years the band has done countless shows with The Sweet Inspirations, Elvis’ female back up singers for his Las Vegas shows through his entire concert career. Recently, Dan Lentino and The Fabulous Ambassadors took the Elvis show to South America and Europe where the response was unbelievable; exposing these legends who lived and worked with Elvis to new markets. Dan Lentino and the Ambassadors founded, managed and guided the careers of the worlds most successful Elvis Tribute Artists including Rick Saucedo, Gary Wesley, Trent Carlini, Ryan Pelton, Donny Edwards, Justin Shandor and currently Shawn Klush. The band has provided the music for 5 Elvis related tribute albums and have participated in, been consulted on or been listed in numerous Elvis related tribute books and TV segments. They were the band for the very first ETA convention and the very first worldwide ETA competition in Montreal. The Fabulous Ambassadors pride themselves in their knowledge of the multiple styles and arrangements performed and recorded by Elvis. From the licks of Scotty Moore, to the country picking of James Burton: the famous back beat of DJ Fontana to the thunder rolls of Ronnie Tutt, The Fabulous Ambassadors are students and experts on the music of Elvis Presley. .

  • Bob Dylan Performs “It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding),” 1964–2009
Volume 19, Number 4, December 2013 Copyright © 2013 Society for Music Theory A Foreign Sound to Your Ear: Bob Dylan Performs “It’s Alright, Ma (I’m Only Bleeding),” 1964–2009 * Steven Rings NOTE: The examples for the (text-only) PDF version of this item are available online at: http://www.mtosmt.org/issues/mto.13.19.4/mto.13.19.4.rings.php KEYWORDS: Bob Dylan, performance, analysis, genre, improvisation, voice, schema, code ABSTRACT: This article presents a “longitudinal” study of Bob Dylan’s performances of the song “It’s Alright, Ma (I’m Only Bleeding)” over a 45-year period, from 1964 until 2009. The song makes for a vivid case study in Dylanesque reinvention: over nearly 800 performances, Dylan has played it solo and with a band (acoustic and electric); in five different keys; in diverse meters and tempos; and in arrangements that index a dizzying array of genres (folk, blues, country, rockabilly, soul, arena rock, etc.). This is to say nothing of the countless performative inflections in each evening’s rendering, especially in Dylan’s singing, which varies widely as regards phrasing, rhythm, pitch, articulation, and timbre. How can music theorists engage analytically with such a moving target, and what insights into Dylan’s music and its meanings might such a study reveal? The present article proposes one set of answers to these questions. First, by deploying a range of analytical techniques—from spectrographic analysis to schema theory—it demonstrates that the analytical challenges raised by Dylan’s performances are not as insurmountable as they might at first appear, especially when approached with a strategic and flexible methodological pluralism.

  • Aint Gonna Study War No More / Down by the Riverside
The Danish Peace Academy 1 Holger Terp: Aint gonna study war no more Ain't gonna study war no more By Holger Terp American gospel, workers- and peace song. Author: Text: Unknown, after 1917. Music: John J. Nolan 1902. Alternative titles: “Ain' go'n' to study war no mo'”, “Ain't gonna grieve my Lord no more”, “Ain't Gwine to Study War No More”, “Down by de Ribberside”, “Down by the River”, “Down by the Riverside”, “Going to Pull My War-Clothes” and “Study war no more” A very old spiritual that was originally known as Study War No More. It started out as a song associated with the slaves’ struggle for freedom, but after the American Civil War (1861-65) it became a very high-spirited peace song for people who were fed up with fighting.1 And the folk singer Pete Seeger notes on the record “Waist Deep in the Big Muddy and Other Love Songs”, that: "'Down by the Riverside' is, of course, one of the oldest of the Negro spirituals, coming out of the South in the years following the Civil War."2 But is the song as we know it today really as old as it is claimed without any sources? The earliest printed version of “Ain't gonna study war no more” is from 1918; while the notes to the song were published in 1902 as music to a love song by John J. Nolan.3 1 http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/grovemusic/spirituals,_hymns,_gospel_songs.htm 2 Thanks to Ulf Sandberg, Sweden, for the Pete Seeger quote.
