Introduction Consciousness and Cognition, An International Journal, provides a forum for a natural-science approach to the issues of consciousness, voluntary control, and self. The journal features empirical research (in the form of articles) and theoretical reviews. The journal aims to be both scientifically rigorous and open to novel contributions. The Editors welcome submissions from scholars committed to a scientific understanding of the journal's three main issues. Authors are asked to give special attention to clarity of definition in their usage of such terms as "awareness," "conscious(ness),"and "voluntary," supplying operational definitions where possible. Types of contribution Manuscripts of three types are solicited: 1. NEW! Registered reports: (click here for more details). These submissions undergo a two-phase review process in which study rationale and methodology are considered prior to the research being undertaken. 2. Articles: These papers report significant experimental findings. Typical articles occupy up to 14,000 words, but can be longer with submission of a cover letter justifying the need for additional length and permission of the Editor. 3. Review Articles: These are longer papers that critically review a topic of importance to the readership of Consciousness and Cognition. Such papers are typically 4,000 words or longer, and contain extensive references to the literature. They should evaluate ideas and theories, rather than passively reviewing a research literature.
