hile the HOA Board and members take the summer off from meetings and many go to cooler climates away Wfrom Florida’s summer heat, we want everyone to know some of us are remaining here at Four Seasons Estates. For those of you headed to northern states and provinces, have a wonderful and safe summer and we look forward to having you return to us in the fall. Remember that HOA will be here and acquiring information, ideas and means and ways to help all of us maintain our beautiful homes and park for everyone. This month’s SPOTLIGHT IS ON OUR NEIGHBOR, Janice Lamore, Secretary of Four Seasons Estates Homeowners Association. Janice found Four Seasons quite by accident as she was staying with friends and ballroom dancing around the area in 2006. After visiting different cities in Florida from Daytona Beach to Fort Myers, she felt that the Largo area had the most to offer in amenities. She rented for one full winter at Teakwood Village West and spent a lot of that time driving around getting herself lost on purpose in order to learn the area and, after checking out more than a dozen mobile home parks, she bought coach #332 in February 2007. The previous owner also happened to be from the Burlington, Vermont area. (He had flagged her down to talk to her as she was coming across the bridge from Pointe West to Four Seasons when he saw her Vermont license plate.) She has spent some of the last eight years renovating her coach which is common to most residents in the park because of the vintage of our coaches. Her children have been down to visit and also love the area. Janice has three children, five grandchildren and four great-grandsons. She lives in Essex, Vermont in a small ranch style home on ten acres in the country complete with a huge cow barn from the 1940’s and apple and pear trees. Although the barn is used mostly for storage by her children, her 1949 Ford 8N tractor also rests there patiently waiting for restoration. FOUR SEASONS FORUM JUNE, 2015 S 9 three children have built their homes on acreage that she had owned that was adjacent to her property. They also attend to mowing the lawn (about an acre) and plowing the snow in the winter. She was a Vice President and Trust Officer at the Chittenden Bank (now Peoples Bank based in Connecticut) in Burlington, Vermont. She was also a Certified Financial Planner. After an almost 40 year career in banking, she retired in May of 2004 (to the dismay of some of her third-generation trust clients.) Some of her past civic activities have included: Chairman, Trust Committee, Vermont Bankers Association; President, Greater Vermont Chapter, International Association for Financial Planning; Vice President and Treasurer, Green Mountain Chapter, USA Dance. During the summer, she loves to volunteer at Habitat ReStore in Williston, Vermont. (Who wouldn’t love it; it’s like one big garage sale.) She has served as Secretary of our Four Seasons Homeowners Association since 2009. An enjoyable part of her summer is spent playing “Grammy’s Taxi” to two of her great-grandsons, ages 7 and 6, so they may enjoy swimming lessons, camp, etc. The not-so-enjoyable part is an occasional trip to the dentist. (One little guy now refuses to open his mouth because he knows the needle is coming.) Janice also enjoys being with her family and friends, ballroom dancing (when the arthritis in her feet co-operates), playing poker and cribbage, cooking, reading, following the stock market, staging homes and going to thrift stores and garage sales. Most of her home here in Florida and in Vermont could be classified as “early American garage sale.” She has passed on this trait to her daughter. Also, the rest of her family have enjoyed her many “fabulous finds” for their homes over the years.

The Spirit and a Dime everal years ago a pastor moved to Houston, Texas. Some weeks after he arrived, he had occasion to ride the bus from his home to the downtown area. When he sat Sdown, he discovered that the driver had accidentally given him ten cents too much change. As he considered what to do, there alternately appeared to him little angelic figures sitting on his shoulders and whispering instructions into his ears. One said, "You better give the dime back. It would be wrong to keep it." On the other shoulder a voice said, "Oh forget it. It's just ten cents. Who would worry about this little amount? Anyway the bus company already gets too much fare. With their millions everyday, they will never miss it. Accept it as a gift from God and keep quiet." When his stop came he paused momentarily at the front door, and handing the driver the dime he said, "Here. You handed me too much change." The driver replied, "Aren't you the new pastor in town? I have been thinking lately about going to church somewhere. I just wanted to see what you would do if I gave you ten cents too much change." When the pastor stepped off the bus, he literally grabbed the nearest light pole and held on, and said, "O God, I almost sold your Son for ten cents." So, who are you listening too? Remember, that someone is watching! "For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit." (Romans 8:5) Chapel services every Sunday, 9:00 AM, at the Four Seasons Clubhouse. Dear Four Seasons Friends and Neighbors: Angela Shuman

RCS Food Collection (Religious Community Services) Food Bank Paul & Jean Rumbold # 176

ow! We never dreamed of these figures when we took over the RCS Food Bank project. Our heartfelt thanks go to Gerri Howlett and Art Payne and the Music & WFriends events throughout the winter. All those who attended brought non-perishable food items for admission. Others brought items for the bins on Wednesdays at Koffee Klatch. A special thanks to Betty Gurn and Jim Patton for announcing the various figures each Wednesday morning at KK. Throughout the winter months, we made eleven trips to the RCS Food Bank and realized a total of 1588 lbs of non-perishable food and $618.00 in cash. It has been an enlightening experience – we learned a lot about the food bank and the help they give to those in need in Pinellas County. If you would like to take the lead on this worthwhile FSE project next sea- son, please let me or Nora Skelding know of your interest. Welcome Lady Angie Simon, Lot 103 telephone 330-612-5822

Join us in the lovely Four Seasons pool. Please observe these important rules for everyone’s protection and enjoyment. 1. If you are the last one out of the pool, always be certain that the rope is secured across the pool. Please ask your guests to be aware of the importance of this as well. 2. If you are a smoker and use the ‘butt’ buckets – please clean them out once in a while. Make sure the ‘butts’ are completely out before you put them in the trash can. 3. The life preserver is for emergencies only – it is not a toy – do not let children play with it in the pool. 4. Observe special times for your young visitors. Chil- dren under the age of 16 may use the pool between the hours of 10AM - 1PM and 5PM till dusk, and should be accompanied and controlled at the pool by their host/s or a designated adult. 5. Straighten the chairs and tables whenever you move them around – don’t leave them for someone else to rearrange. 6. If you put an umbrella up – make sure you put it down and tie it when you leave the pool. Winds can blow up quickly - we wouldn’t want anyone to be injured by a flying umbrella. 7. The green wrist bands serve to identify residents and guests – it’s important for every- one’s security to know who belongs here and who doesn’t. PLEASE WEAR THEM. 8. Be sure to dispose of trash properly – there is a special covered can for aluminum cans and other recyclables – do not put household/personal trash in the trash can – NO GLASS ALLOWED IN THE POOL AREA (this is for everyone’s safety). Treat the pool as if it was your own – actually it is!!

WHAT MAKES A DAD Author unknown

God took the strength of a mountain The majesty of a tree, The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea.

The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night, The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle’s flight.

The joy of a morning in spring, The faith of a mustard seed, The patience of eternity, The depth of a family need.

Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add, He knew His masterpiece was complete, And so, he called it…DAD. 4 Seasons Social Activities Club Face Book Page Mandi Harman-Ashley, #373

Happy summer to all our bridge players. We’ll look forward to seeing each other in October. ONE LATTE MYSTERY FINALLY SOLVED

aybe you’ve never noticed that your latte is a whole lot less likely to slosh over the side of your cup than regular coffee. If so, you’re not a physicist with too much time Mon your hands, apparently. The Sci-News website reports that scientists at Princeton University explored the phenomenon by creating a narrow glass container, filling it with a solu- tion of water, glycerol, and a commercial dishwashing detergent. Then they injected a stream of air through the container’s bottom to create layers of bubbles like the foam in a latte. In the resulting experiment, the scientists used two specific types of movements, a side-to- side jolt and a steady back and forth rocking motion. They discovered that five layers of the foam managed to decrease the waves created by the movement by a factor of 10. More layers didn’t have any additional effect on the sloshing. Then, presumably, they went out for coffee. On the serious side, Sci-News notes that the work may help to develop better techniques for transporting large amounts of fluid with minimal spillage. FOUR SEASONS FORUM JUNE, 2015 S 29 Monthly For June

African-American Music Appreciation Month. A celebration of African- American music in all forms. In June of 2011, President Barack Obama proclaimed, “African-American musicians, composers, singers, and songwriters have made enormous contributions to our culture by capturing the hardships and aspirations of a community and reminding us of our shared values.”

Child Vision Awareness Month. Children’s vision challenges can be diffi cult to detect be- cause they may not know they see the world differently than other children. Infants and children should have regular eye exams to ensure that they can see both near and far away, confi rm that their eyes work together to focus on a single object, and treat eye diseases early.

National Zoo and Aquarium Month. A good time to explore your local zoo and aquarium. Many have excellent educational resources—photographs, videos, lesson plans, and other activities. Go to the website of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums for links to its accredited zoos and aquariums.

National Scoliosis Awareness Month. A yearly campaign with the goal of highlight- ing the growing need for education, early detection, and awareness about scoliosis and its preva- lence within the community. The campaign unites scoliosis patients, families, physicians, clini- cians, institutions, and related businesses in local activities, events, and grassroots networking throughout the month of June.
