Students are expected to meet the course goals listed above and be able to demonstrate their understanding of specific technology concepts. Various instructional strategies will be used in this course including: lecture, textbooks, digital handouts, hands-on exercises with manipulatives, class discussions, internet tutorials, leadership activities, guest speakers and special projects: Students will work independently and in groups. Assignments will require students to use their academic skills of reading, writing and math.

Lost or Damaged Textbooks Students are expected to have respect for school property and to take good care of books, desks, and other furniture and equipment. Students/parents will reimburse the high school for any damages caused by a student. This includes computer equipment and/or textbooks that have been issued to the student and are lost or damaged.

Course Policies and Procedures: Class Rules Allen High Handbook Policy rules will be followed at all times. The goal of the classroom is to provide the maximum learning opportunity for each student. All students are expected to conduct themselves as ladies and gentlemen at all times by following these rules: Be Punctual – be in your seat when class starts (see times above). Be Prepared – spiral notebook and pencil brought to class every day. Be Courteous and Respectful – speak kindly to others, inappropriate language or gestures will not be tolerated. Respect the property of others and the school equipment. Disrespect and inappropriate behavior towards any student, facilitator or instructor, will not be tolerated. Insubordination (anything that interferes with teaching or learning in the classroom) of any kind will not be tolerated, and will be grounds for disciplinary action. Follow Directions – follow directions the first time they are given. Be prepared to hear all the directions as they are given. Work Hard – stay busy, turn completed work in on time and come to class with a POSITIVE ATTITUDE. No MP3 players or phones are allowed in the classroom unless we are using them as an enhancement for projects or assignments. If a student is found in violation the phone will be confiscated and given to Mr. Ward. Internet Use All students are expected to have a current Allen City Schools “acceptable use” policy signed and on file BEFORE using internet related services. There will be no instant messages used or chat rooms entered. Random surfing is not allowed. Hit the back button or quit Internet Explorer and notify the instructor IMMEDIATELY if you come across something inappropriate. Students caught accessing inappropriate material deliberately or accidentally will lose their Internet privileges by the teacher/administration according to their interpretation of the situation. Internet use is to be consistent with the Allen City School guidelines. Do not surf the Internet or play games when you're supposed to be listening to the teacher or working on an assignment. Do not download or install any programs. Do not download any music, video, or any copyrighted information from the Internet. All computer use must have an educational basis. No game playing or unauthorized use of the school’s computers without the permission of the instructor.

Safety Issues Report IMMEDIATELY about any malfunctioning equipment, any other problems with computers, or other equipment in the classroom as well any missing items. No drinks, food, magnets, or other items are to be brought into or consumed in the classroom or used near the computers. Bring only necessary materials to the computer lab – Place your backpacks, purses and other personal items below your desk and away from the aisle. Do not roll chairs. They tip over easily, and I do not want you to get hurt. Never pull the cord to remove the plug from the socket. Operate equipment correctly and safely including cables and hardware. End of each Class All student folders should be returned to the class at the end of each day. Please do not use the workstation desk for your file folders, assignment sheets, etc. Close all open programs and files. Log Off – leave the station ready for the next person to use. Leave your workspace the way you'd like to find it. This means exit all applications, and put CDs, books, or other supplies where they belong. Take responsibility for your actions – clean up your area. Push in your chair. 7th hour students will need to shut down the computers in order to conserve energy each day.

Rules for Success! Attend class regularly. Be prompt and take only the assigned breaks. You are not allowed to leave the room to go to the bathroom or get a drink UNLESS it is an emergency. Make sure you take care of these things before you enter the classroom. Students are not to use any materials or equipment for which they have not received specific teacher instruction or approval for use in the classroom. Respect the hardware, software, and tools provided for your use. Do not take them home for your personal use unless you have received prior approval from your teacher. Do not alter anything on the desktop or hard drive. Conduct yourself with honesty and integrity. Do not make illegal copies of software, music, or video CDs. Do not compromise tests. Stay out of other people's files. Respect your teacher and fellow students. Demonstrate a team building attitude. Work quietly and stay on task. Make every effort to do your best. Spell-check and proofread before printing. Print to a color printer only when color is needed. Get permission if you want to use the Internet for anything other than the day's assignment. Ask for help if you don't understand something. Please read the instructions on the computer screen, in the book, or instruction sheet before asking for help. Class Participation You are responsible for asking any questions before an assignment is due or if you do not understand something. Consequences Students who choose to not follow the rules above will be given the following consequences:

Late Work Policy Students are expected to complete and turn in all assignments by assigned due dates. On the rare occasion a student does not complete an assignment on time they may turn the assignment in late if the chapter test has not been taken. Students will receive a maximum of 70% on any late work. Late work will not be accepted if the chapter test has already been taken or if it was from a previous nine-week period. Assignments not turned in prior to the chapter test will be recorded as a 0%.

Assessment and Certification Opportunities Semester Test All students will take a semester test that will count as 10% of their semester grade. The following required Brainbench tests will count as the semester two test.
