  • ANAHEIM Ducks Hold OFF Stars 4-3 in SERIES OPENER
Sports44 FRIDAY, APRIL 18, 2014 New York Jets sign former Titans RB Chris Johnson NEW YORK: Always fast on the field, Chris Johnson found a new job pretty quickly, too. The New York Jets signed the former Titans running back Wednesday, a little over a week after he was officially released by Tennessee on April 7. Johnson met with the Jets all day Tuesday - the first team he visited - and stayed in town to watch the Knicks- Nets game in Brooklyn before signing Wednesday. The Jets announced the move, but didn’t release terms. In a text message to The Associated Press, Johnson confirmed it was a two-year deal. Johnson was told by the Titans of their decision April 4, ending a six-year stint in Tennessee during which he became one of the NFL’s most exciting and tantalizingly fast running backs. The former 2,000-yard rusher will team with Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell to give coach Rex Ryan and offensive coordi- nator Marty Mornhinweg a deep and dangerous back- field. The Jets also have Mike Goodson, who is dealing with legal issues and recovering from torn knee ligaments, and Alex Green. While his days as a workhorse running back - he carried the ball over 300 times in each of the 2009 and 2010 seasons - might be over, Johnson could be the perfect complement to the bruising Ivory and ver- satile Powell. In Mornhinweg’s first season as offensive coordinator, the Jets finished sixth in the league in rush- ing last year with Ivory and Powell sharing the load.

  • About Undrafted
About Undrafted Every year, thousands of college football players leave school with dreams of pursuing a career in the National Football League. Of those thousands, 256 players are selected in the NFL Draft. The remaining – the Undrafted – must convince coaches, executives and the pro football community they deserve a coveted roster spot on an NFL team. NFL Network’s Undrafted goes inside the lives and tells the inspirational stories of these athletes as they try to fulfill their football dreams. The series follows the players – on and off the field – as they prepare for, and perform in, the NFL's Regional Combines (an alternative showcase for lesser-known college players), their schools’ respective Pro Days and NFL training camps. These events have taken on greater importance in recent years as numerous undrafted players – including Super Bowl XLIX hero Malcolm Butler (New England Patriots) – have earned important roles on pro rosters. This is the third season of Undrafted – a series which premiered in 2014 to critical acclaim, becoming nominated for a Sports Emmy in the prestigious “Outstanding Documentary Series” category. Undrafted is co-produced by the NFL Media’s Original Content Group in association with Mandalay Sports Media and DG West. Undrafted 2016 Programming Schedule The third season of the Emmy-nominated series Undrafted will premiere on NFL Network on Tuesday, September 13 at 8:00 PM ET. Each hour-long edition of the eight-episode series will air on Tuesday through November 1, and will re-air Tuesday at 12 Midnight ET

The worst NFL team from the previous season gets the first overall selection in the Draft, and the Super Bowl winner from the previous season gets the last selection of the first round. The first round comprises 32 selections, or picks, one for each team in the NFL. Round two consists of picks 32-63, round three picks 64-99, round four picks 100-135, round five picks 136-166, round six picks 167-207, and round seven picks 208-252 (NFL.com). Teams compete in the Draft for the “best” college players. Currently, the Draft strategy used by most general managers relies heavily on the results of the NFL Combine, a workout that showcases the top prospects from college football, selecting players who attended prolific football colleges, and winners of prestigious college football awards.
