HEAD COACH RON PRINCE

On Dec. 10, 2018, Howard University Director of Athletics Kery Davis announced the hiring of Ron Prince as the football program’s new head coach.

“We welcome Ron Prince to the Howard University family,” Davis said. “His background includes successful tenures at the highest collegiate and professional levels. His football acumen, demon- strated values and forward-thinking vision fits well into the program here at Howard. He reflects the mission of our Athletic Department to promote excellence and service on the field, in the classroom and in the community.”

In 2018, Prince was an offensive analyst for the Michigan Football program after working for the Detroit Lions. In his one season with the Wolverines, the team ended the regular season with a 10-2 record. Michigan was No. 1 in the con- ference in third-down conversions, time of possession and offensive turnovers.

Prince worked with the Lions tight ends for two seasons (2014-15) and was the offensive line mentor for two seasons (2016-17), while serving as assistant head coach for the organization all four seasons.

Prince has a wealth of coaching experience at the collegiate and NFL levels, working 19 seasons in the college ranks, including three seasons as the head coach at Kansas State (2006-08), and seven seasons in the NFL.

He has worked primarily with the offensive line but has four years of experience as an offensive coordinator at Virginia (2003-05) and Rutgers (2013). Prince was also the special teams coordinator at Virginia during the 2009 season.

Prince succeeded Bill Snyder as head coach at Kansas State in 2006, becoming the third youngest head coach in the Division I-Bowl Subdivision at 36 years of age. During the 2006 season, Prince led K-State to its first winning season since 2003 with a 7-6 mark and a berth in the Texas Bowl. The Wildcats won a big 45-42 win over 4th-ranked Texas during Prince’s first season. Kansas State posted back-to-back 5-7 seasons during his final two seasons in Manhattan.

A Junction City, Kansas native, Prince attended Junction City High School, where he graduated in 1988. Prince began his college football career at Dodge City Community College before transferring to Appalachian State University. He played along the offensive line under coach Jerry Moore and graduated with a bachelor of science and history degree in 1992.
