(August 2012) Evleen Michelle Nasir, B.A., Texas A&M University Chair of Advisory Committee: Dr. Kirsten Pullen There is a discursive formation of incapability that surrounds senior women’s sexuality. Senior women are incapable of reproduction, mastering their bodies, or arousing sexual desire in themselves or others. The senior actresses’ I explore in the case studies below insert their performances of self and their everyday lives into the large and complicated discourse of sex, producing a counter-narrative to sexually inactive senior women. Their performances actively embody their sexuality outside the frame of a character. This thesis examines how senior actresses’ performances of sexuality extend a discourse of sexuality imposed on older woman by mass media. These women are the public face of senior women’s sexual agency. -
About the Production
Alliance Communications presents a Redeemable Features Production a film by everyone who worked on it 94 Minutes Rated PG-13 A Redeemable Features Release Press Contact: Jeremy Walker Jeremy Walker Associates (212) 595-6161 Page 2 SYNOPSIS "All I Wanna Do" is a comedy about a closely-knit group of friends set at a traditional New England all-girls boarding school in 1963. But at its core, "All I Wanna Do" is also the story of young women who recognize their own value and potential when their all- female sanctuary becomes threatened by the specter of men. The film was written and directed by Sarah Kernochan, an established screenwriter making her feature directorial debut. For Odie (Gaby Hoffmann), a pretty but moody teenager, being sent to Miss Godard's Prep School for Girls midway through the year is a little bit like being sent to prison. Miss Godard's has all kinds of rules, and a lot is expected of the girls there. But Odie soon discovers that the girls at Miss Godard's also have a lot of fun, and most important, the school is something of a haven where girls can behave, well, just like girls since there are no boys in sight. After a tour of the campus guided by Abby (Rachael Leigh Cook), an uptight, brown- nosing "monitor" on the Self-Government Committee, Odie just wants to cry. But things start looking up when Odie meets her new roommates, Verena (Kirsten Dunst) and Tinka (Monica Keena). Verena is a schemer who likes to break the rules. -

‘BEST CHRISTMAS PARTY EVER’ PRODUCTION BIOS LEWIS CHESLER (Executive Producer) – Lewis Chesler is one of the first producers of material for the alternative television market and since has produced TV shows that stretch the boundaries of the medium beyond the conventional programming of the standard broadcasters. In a field where innovation is often discouraged, Chesler has nonetheless managed extraordinary success. He is now known for Independent features, art action pieces and award winning action adventure pieces for the family. A native of Cleveland, Chesler attended Amherst College, studying cultural history and graduating with highest honors after writing his thesis on television’s impact on political consciousness in the mass society. He worked his way through college, spending summers in the Cleveland steel mills and his winter vacations working on merchant vessels, traveling around the world. Following college, he joined the Peace Corps. In the mid-70’s, Chesler became artistic director of the Long Beach Performing Arts Centre. He produced a series of plays there, starring, among others, Stockard Channing, Jill Clayburgh, Stacey Keach, James Whitmore and Eddie Albert. He also booked the opera house, the sports arena, two theaters and the rock concert forum. He started his television career with a series of variety shows and “The Hitchhiker” series for HBO. Chesler conceived the show, its style, look and direction and brought together the main creative elements, including Academy Award®-nominated writers and actors and internationally prominent directors. One of the most enduring aspects of Chesler’s efforts during “The Hitchhiker” was the encouragement of industry acceptance of cable programming as a venue to showcase top film directors and actors such as Paul Verhoeven, Phillip Noyce, Wayne Wang, Willem Dafoe, Klaus Kinski, Kirstie Alley and Helen Hunt. -

Boy Band Inspires Fans but the Lure of the Theater Eventually Led Her to Study Drama at Boston University
ARAB TIMES, MONDAY, MAY 3, 2021 NEWS/FEATURES 13 People & Places Obits Author Matthews dead Oscar-winning actress Dukakis dies aged 89 MAPLEWOOD, NJ, May 2, (AP): Olympia Duka- kis, the veteran stage and screen actor whose fl air for maternal roles helped her win an Oscar as Cher’s mother in the romantic comedy “Moonstruck,” has died. She was 89. Dukakis died Saturday morning in her home in New York City, according to Allison Levy, her agent at In- novative Artists. A cause of death was not immedi- ately released, but her family said in a statement that she had been in failing health for months. Dukakis won her Oscar through a surprising chain of circumstances, beginning with author Nora Ephron’s recommendation that she play Meryl Streep’s mother in the fi lm version of Ephron’s book “Heartburn.” Du- kakis got the role, but her scenes were cut from the fi lm. To make it up to her, director Mike Nichols cast her in his hit play “Social Se- curity.” Director Norman Jew- ison saw her in that role and cast her in “Moonstruck.” Dukakis won the Oscar for best supporting actress and Cher took home the trophy for best actress. She referred to her 1988 win as “the year of the Dukakii” because it was also the year Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis Dukakis, her cousin, was the Democratic Party’s presiden- tial nominee. At the ceremony, she held her Oscar high over her head and called out: “OK, Michael, let’s go!” Members of the Chinese music group Produce Pandas, (from left), Husky, Otter, Mr 17, Cass, and DING strike a pose while practicing dance choreography dur- In 1989, her Oscar statuette was stolen from Duka- ing rehearsals in Beijing, April 15, 2021. -

1 Femininity, Ageing and Performativity in the Work of Amy
1 Femininity, Ageing and Performativity in the Work of Amy Heckerling Frances Smith, University College London Abstract: This article concerns the complex negotiation of ageing and femininity in Amy Heckerling’s two most recent films: I Could Never Be Your Woman (2007) and Vamps (2012). These films are positioned as part of the contemporary postfeminist media culture, (Gill, 2007) noting the scrutiny received by the ageing female body, and its changing status under the prevailing cultural norms of femininity. However, Heckerling’s films also demonstrate a sense of play with these gender norms, and so calls to be read also in terms of Judith Butler’s theorisation of performativity (1990; 1993; 2004). This article contends that Heckerling’s representation of liminality and indeterminacy—in her teen movies, and later work alike—provides a way for women to carve out an autonomous identity that humorously demonstrates the absurdity of mediatised constructions of femininity. Her work, then, is more complex than has hitherto been acknowledged, and the piece concludes by calling for the director and screenwriter to be repositioned as a significant female voice in 21st century screen media. A pivotal scene occurs towards the middle of Amy Heckerling’s I Could Never Be Your Woman (2007) when television producer Rosie (Michelle Pfeiffer) enters the reception area of a TV studio where two other producers are discussing casting. As one (Peter Polycarpou) proposes a series of accomplished female actors, the other (Mackenzie Crook) dismisses them variously as “hags”, or, in the case of actor Emma Thompson, “Brit hag”. Even those women who have taken steps to stall the ageing process do not escape this scrutiny. -
