2017 Pitt Football Game Notes Bobby Dodd Stadium • Saturday, September 23, 2017 Game No. 4: Georgia Tech 35, Pitt 17 Team • Pitt dropped its ACC opener 35-17 to Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta. • The Panthers (1-3, 0-1 ACC) have now lost three consecutive games for the first time since 2014. It is Pitt’s first 1-3 start since the 2005 season, when the Panthers would fall to 1-4 before finishing with a record of 5-6. • The Yellow Jackets (2-1, 1-0 ACC) defeated Pitt for the first time since 2014 and took a 3-2 lead in the ACC series between the Coastal Division rivals. Pitt still leads the all-time series 7-5. • Georgia Tech used a potent rushing attack to earn the victory, tallying 442 yards on the ground via 67 attempts. It was Pitt’s first time allowing over 400 yards rushing since Navy did it in the Military Bowl on Dec. 28, 2015. • On the other side of the ball, Pitt was held to 37 yards rushing on 20 attempts, which was its lowest output since rushing for just 23 yards against Syracuse on Nov. 23, 2013. • Pitt forced four Georgia Tech turnovers—all via fumble recovery. It marked Pitt’s first game forcing four turnovers since the Panthers forced three fumbles and recorded an interception against Penn State on Sept. 10, 2016. • Seven Pitt defenders set or tied career-high tackle totals: Oluwaseun Idowu (13), Saleem Brightwell (10), Damar Hamlin (7), Keyshon Camp (6), James Folston Jr. (4), Dewayne Hendrix (2) and Rashad Wheeler (1). Ben DiNucci • DiNucci earned his first career start at quarterback for the Panthers. • DiNucci led Pitt on a 5-play, 78-yard touchdown drive to open the game. • He threw a career-long touchdown pass of 28 yards to Qadree Ollison to cap the game’s initial drive. • DiNucci finished 12-of-19 passing for 110 yards and that touchdown. Quadree Henderson • Henderson had an 80-yard punt return for a touchdown in the second quarter to tie the game at 14-14. • Henderson’s punt return TD was the second of his career and his sixth return score. • It marked a career-long punt return, eclipsing his 65-yard punt return TD against Duke on Nov. 19, 2016. • Henderson is the first Pitt player with multiple punt return touchdowns in a career since Darrelle Revis. Alex Kessman • Kessman booted a 55-yard field goal in the final play of the first half, his first career FG over 30 yards in length. • It was the longest Pitt field goal since Chris Blewitt’s 56-yard game-winning FG at Georgia Tech in 2015. Jordan Whitehead • Whitehead returned to the Pitt starting lineup at safety and made an impact on both sides of the ball. • Whitehead’s first play of the season was a 30-yard rush on offense. • On Pitt’s first defensive series, the junior safety recovered a fumble, his third career fumble recovery. • Whitehead finished the game with 35 yards rushing, seven solo tackles and a fumble recovery. Ryan Winslow • Winslow continued to punt at a very high level, averaging a career-best 50.1 yards per punt on seven attempts. • The Pitt senior punter unleashed four punts that traveled over 50 yards, including a game-high 59-yarder. .
