THE RIPPINGTONS FEATURING RUSS FREEMAN TRUE STORIES PEAK RECORDS/ENTERTAINMENT ONE “When I started the Rippingtons, I never imagined it would last more than the release of one album, let alone thirty years!” recalls Russ Freeman, leader and founder of the pioneering, GRAMMY® nominated group The Rippingtons, who are celebrating their 30th anniversary year with the release of True Stories, the band’s 22nd recording to be released June 24, 2016. True Stories, recorded over an intensive three-month span, is a refreshing elixir that will delight devout fans of The Rippingtons and attract new ones. Joined by original Rippington, alto and soprano saxophonist Brandon Fields, drummer Dave Karasony, bassist and rhodes player Rico Belled and special guest Jeffrey Osborne, Freeman orchestrates ten compelling originals. The album opens with the hypnotic and scintillating “Wild Tales,” the CD’s first single, which Freeman calls an “experiment in randomness.” Fusing elements of jazz with traces of EDM and world influences, The Rippingtons foreshadow the journey ahead and promise it to be nothing short of exhilarating. Many of the classic Rippingtons hit repertoire prominently feature rich saxophone melodies and this time out Freeman showcases his unparalleled guitar wizardry. On True Stories his choice of axe is a Patrick Cummings gold custom Brian Moore 30th Anniversary Russ Freeman model guitar. He plays it on all the album tracks with the exception of “Wonderland,” which features a Rosewood Fender Telecaster. The epic number transports listeners through several breathtaking, suspenseful movements that are crystallized by Freeman’s beautiful and intuitive playing. An Interview with Eric Marienthal November 10, 2005 Interviewed by Shannon West Eric Marienthal is one of the most multifaceted musicians in contemporary jazz. Within just the last year he has been a key player on 4 major releases, each with a totally different approach to contemporary instrumental music. Besides his latest, Got You Covered, he is also a part of Chick Corea's Elektric Band, which just released their reunion CD, To The Stars. He is also featured on the Rippingtons' Wild Card and Lee Ritenour's tour de force CD/DVD Overtime. Besides touring as a solo act he has been playing the majority of the Rippingtons' live dates and touring with the Elektric Band. And that's just recent history. If you look through your CD collection you'll probably see his name in the credits on a lot of your favorites including Dave Grusin, David Benoit, Phil Perry, Patti Austin, Gregg Karukas, Steve Oliver, the GRP All Star Big Band, Jeff Lorber, Rick Braun...pretty much everyone. Marienthal started with the best. His first high profile gig was when Chick Corea invited him to join the Elektric Band in the early '80s. When GRP signed him to a solo deal a few years later, Corea produced his first album. He has recorded 11albums and every one stands up to repeated listenings years later. To cover his whole career would require days of conversation and more pages than a short novel. So we talked about Got You Covered, which finds him exploring more new territory: recording live in an acoustic setting with a stellar group of musicians including Russell Ferrante, Russ Freeman, Luis Conte, Chick Corea, Dave Carpenter and Peter Erskine.

But, like an actor who has been known primarily for one role, he wanted to show other dimensions of his artistry, influenced by Stephen Sondheim, Burt Bacharach, Dave Grusin and Leonard Bernstein. “I’ve done records where I had a token vocal tune, all the way back to my first album,” Benoit says. “But I never did an entire record [with vocals]. So the thought here was to do something really different.” The result is Benoit’s thirty-fifth recording as a leader and his first with a vocalist. 2 In Love, set for release on June 16, 2015 via Concord Records, features Jane Monheit, the GRAMMY®- nominated, cool-toned chanteuse from New York, who burst on the scene in 1998 as the first runner-up in the Thelonious Monk International Vocalist Competition. “Concord suggested Jane Monheit,” Benoit says. “She was the perfect vocalist. I like to make records a certain way: I prefer to go in live and record it all at once. And a lot of vocalists can’t do that: they need to edit, fix and use auto-tune. But Jane doesn’t need to do any of those things. Many of the keys were difficult, but she sang everything live. Jane also has a background in Broadway, which is another part of my lexicon that I’ve not explored.

The Summer 12 facilities, located within the Duck Town Park, provide meeting space for the Duck Town Events Recap Council and the Town’s various boards and committees, office space for Town administrative staff, areas for special events, and public restroom facilities. The buildings 4th of July 13 were completed just in time to celebrate Duck’s 10-Year Anniversary of incorporation as a Celebration Town. In commemoration of our anniversary, there is a historical display of artwork and photographs on exhibit in the lobby of the Town Office building. Please stop by and visit The Soundside 14 Boardwalk us at our new facilities, take in the exhibit, and enjoy the Town Park and Boardwalk.
