Introduction to SAP IQ 2 About SAP IQ SAP® IQ is a high-performance decision-support server designed specifically for mission-critical business intelligence, analytics, and data warehousing. Component Integration Services within SAP IQ provide direct access to relational and non-relational databases on mainframe, UNIX, or Windows servers. 2.1 Product Licensing Available licenses are determined by product edition. Optional features are sold and licensed separately. Whether you install a licensed or evaluation edition, you have 30-day access to all features and options. To use an option beyond the 30-day evaluation period, you must purchase and install an appropriate SAP Software Asset Management (SySAM) license. The e-mail message or Web key you receive when you purchase an SAP product provides specific product and licensing information. Before installing and configuring any product edition, know which features you are licensed to use. 2.2 Product Editions ● SAP IQ Enterprise Edition Supports all options and features. The Enterprise Edition requires a CPU license, which restricts the number of cores (not CPUs) the server can use. Optional features are sold and licensed separately. ● SAP IQ 30-Day Trial Evaluation Provides full access to all features available in the SAP IQ Enterprise Edition for a 30-day evaluation period. When the evaluation period expires, customers are required to purchase an appropriate license to continue running the server. Available as a free download here . ● SAP IQ Edge Edition Packaged for small and midsize customers, the Edge Editon supports a maximum of 8 cores and 1TB of compressed data. The SAP IQ Edge Edition includes is intended to run as a simplex server and does not support SAP IQ add-ons. ● SAP IQ Express Edition Unlike the Evaluation Edition, the SAP IQ Express Edition does not expire, and cannot be deployed in a production environment. The Express Edition restricts the size of all IQ main dbspaces and does not permit other incremental license options. Available as a free download here . Access to optional features beyond the 30-day evaluation period requires an SAP IQ Enterprise Edition and appropriate license. Table 1: Orderable License Actual License Description CPU IQ_CORE Restricts the number of cores (not CPUs) the server can use. VLDB MO IQ_VLDBMGMT Lets you create multiple tablespaces and dbspaces beyond the defaults. Each VLDB license allows for 1 TB of storage. Additional licenses are re quired for each additional TB of storage in the main store. ASO IQ_SECURITY Enables column, ECC Kerberos and FIPS encryption options. The number of ASO licenses must match the number of cores. MPXO IQ_MPXNODE Allows you to starts secondary multiplex nodes (readers/writers). The num ber of nodes must always be less than cores, as each multiplex server must have at least one core. IDBA-PSO IQ_UDF Lets you define and run high-performance scalar and aggregate user-de fined functions. Available with approved third-party libraries only. IQ_IDA Allows you to build, deploy and run C/C++ V4 User-Defined Functions (UDF). The IQ_IDA license will function as both the InDatabase Analytics Op tion and Partner Solutions license. UDA IQ_UDA Applies to TEXT indexes and enables the IQ text search functionality, which lets search unstructured and semi-structured data. An IQ_UDA also includes an IQ_LOB license. Note The DBA must explicitly authorize access to an optionally licensed feature. SAP IQ will not attempt to check-out an optional license by default. Unless the DBA grants access to an option, the option will not be available. • SQL Anywhere: an Embeddable DBMS
SQL Anywhere: An Embeddable DBMS Ivan T. Bowman Peter Bumbulis Dan Farrar Anil K. Goel Brendan Lucier Anisoara Nica G. N. Paulley John Smirnios Matthew Young-Lai Sybase iAnywhere Abstract We present an overview of the embeddability features of SQL Anywhere, a full-function relational data- base system designed for frontline business environments with minimal administration. SQL Anywhere supports features common to enterprise-class database management systems, such as intra-query par- allelism, materialized views, OLAP functionality, stored procedures, triggers, and hot failover. SQL Anywhere can serve as a high-performance workgroup server, an embedded database that is installed along with an application, or as a mobile database installed on a handheld device that provides full database services, including two-way synchronization, to applications when the device is disconnected from the corporate intranet. We illustrate how SQL Anywhere’s embeddability features work in concert to provide a robust data management solution in zero-administration environments. 1 Introduction Database systems have become ubiquitous across the computing landscape. This is partly because of the basic facilities offered by database management systems: physical data independence, ACID transaction properties, a high-level query language, stored procedures, and triggers. These facilities permits sophisticated applications to ‘push’ much of their complexity into the database itself. The proliferation of database systems in the mobile and embedded market segments is due, in addition to the features above, to the support for two-way database replication and synchronization offered by most commercial database management systems. Data synchroniza- tion technology makes it possible for remote users to both access and update corporate data at a remote, off-site location.
