PROGRAM ENTRY AUDITIONS To enroll as a Theatre Arts major at Parkside you’ll need to interview and/or audition with members of the theatre faculty prior to entering the program.

We are now accepting virtual auditions. Through one easy, online submission form, you can share your program entry audition materials. You can also schedule an in-person tour and audition.

Concentrations You can graduate with a traditional liberal arts theatre degree or a professional training degree comparable to BFA programs with a concentration.

ACTING Deepen your knowledge and experience by participating in upper-level performance courses, exclusive professional workshops, and exciting theatre productions. Build a strong resume with meaningful credits before graduation to prepare for a successful career in the arts.

DIRECTING Explore the techniques, theories, and artistry of directing for the stage through advanced coursework, collaborative hands-on production opportunities, and individualized student-directed projects.

STAGE MANAGEMENT Develop the necessary skills and techniques to become an accomplished stage manager through in-depth training based on current professional standards, leadership positions in main stage and studio productions, and arts management education.

MUSICAL THEATRE (Begins Fall 2021) Strengthen your status as a triple threat by engaging in acting, applied voice and music analysis, and musical theatre dance training while applying skills in theatre productions. UW-Parkside is very active in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, Region 3 (the nation’s largest). At festival, our students compete and succeed. We regularly accrue a signifi cant number of Merit Awards (in Design, Direction, and Tech) as well as Acting Awards, including what we consider to be the highest accolade, The Ensemble Acting Award.

Our facilities include an 650 seat proscenium theatre, 150 seat flexible black box, two acting and directing studios, classrooms and studios equipped with the latest technology, a spacious costume lab, and a state-of-the-art digital design and fabrication lab. BRITTANY BOECHE '14 is a proud 2014 graduate of UW-Parkside. Since graduating, she has regularly worked in the Milwaukee theater community and currently holds the position of Programming Administrator with First Stage. She has worked with the Milwaukee Chamber Theater, Outskirts Theater, The Alchemist Theater, Mad Rogues, and others. Favorite roles include Joan (Sexual Perversity in Chicago), Jean (Dead Man’s Cell Phone), and Sir Toby Belch (), for which she received a Footlights award for Outstanding Supporting Performer in a Professional Play.

ELLIOT MAHONEY '16 graduated from Parkside in 2016. Since then has worked in regional theatres, cruise ships, production houses, and concerts. He is in the Technical Production program at Florida State University to pivot to the commercial side of theatre. UW-Parkside provided the foundation needed to get a job in the theatre industry.

ASHLEY MARIE RODRIGUEZ '14 is an actor and singer based in Wisconsin. After growing up in Chicago’s north side she found her way to Wisconsin to fi nish her studies in theatre performance at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. She has had the pleasure of performing in productions with Skylight Music Theatre in roles such as Hattie in Kiss Me Kate, Ensemble and Understudy in Urinetown, and in the future production of Evita as Peron’s Mistress. She also had the pleasure of working with Renaissance Theaterworks’ Br!nk Festival works and the Chicago Kids Company. Other past roles include Lucy Harris in Jekyll & Hyde at College of Lake County, Alais in The Lion in Winter at Pride Theatre Company.

HANNAH SHAY '18 earned her BA in Theatre Arts with a concentration in acting at UW-Parkside. Following her undergrad, she received additional training at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater as part of their Emerging Professional Residency program. Some of her credits there include Junk (Ghost Writer/Ellen), Things I Know to be True (Pip U/S), A Christmas Carol (Nanny). Additional theatre credits include No Wake (Milwaukee Chamber Theatre), Br!NK Briefs (Renaissance Theaterworks), Much Ado About Nothing (Shakespeare Project of Chicago), and understudying A Doll’s House, Part 2 (American Players Theatre). Commercial and voice over credits include Motorola, Maxi-Cosi, Snap-On, Casey’s General Store, Johnson Controls, and Nebraska Medicine.

ZACH YOUNG '18 graduated from UW-Parkside in 2018 after winning the KCACTF National Lighting Design Award for A Streetcar Named Desire. He continued his training at the prestigious Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas from which he graduated with certifi cates in Special Eff ects and in Lighting Systems and Programming. After SILV, Zach served as Assistant Production Manager of Lighting for Princess Cruise Line and later returned to UW-Parkside to work as the interim Scene Shop Supervisor for theatre productions. He accepted a summer internship as Assistant Lighting Designer at PCPA Theatrefest (Pacifi c Conservatory Theatre) where he now serves as Assistant Technical Director. Zach is planning on pursuing an MFA in Lighting Design in the near future. 92% AVERAGE PLACEMENT RATE employed by theatre companies or accepted to graduate school
