A New Square For Stockwell Have your say about the future improvements for Binfield Road HAVE YOUR SAY Historic image of Binfield Road, 1957 The London Borough of Lambeth are working with the Stockwell Partnership, local residents and architects DSDHA to develop design proposals for the area of Binfield Road adjacent to Stockwell Station. The ambition of this project is to develop a new dignified, safe and accessible public space that is appropriate for the thousands of people who pass through the area everyday, while acting as a catalyst for regenerating the centre of Stockwell. Public Consultation Event: Wednesday 17 April: 3pm - 7pm Saturday 20 April: 12noon - 4pm Location: Binfield Road (adjacent to Stockwell Tube Station) People who live and work in the Stockwell area are invited to get involved, share their ideas and help influence the final proposals. Members of the steering group and design team will be available to discuss the preliminary proposals and answer questions. Stockwell Partnership Making a New Place - Proposed Axonometric Sketch Preliminary Proposals • Creating a positive new public space in the heart of Stockwell by widening and repaving the pavements next to the tube station, with improved new lighting. • Introduction of new trees that extend the ‘boulevard’ that exists on Binfield Road. • Linked enhancements to the landscape around the Listed Stockwell Bus Garage. • Transport for London’s Barclays Cycle Hire Scheme is planned for Stockwell in 2013-2014 and the proposal will consider potential locations for bike hire, either within or near Binfield Road. Future Proposals • We will engage with Transport for London on the potential to revise the one-way traffic system in order to connect Stockwell Square to the Memorial Gardens, creating a large public space. • We will work with London Underground to build a new canopy to the tube station with integrated lighting to enhance safety, to give the station a positive identity and to re-establish its historic presence. Public Exhibition The proposals will be on display at The South Lambeth Library between the 15th and 27th April and then at The Stockwell Partnership’s Office between the 29th April and 10th May. A questionnaire will also be available for you to have your say. You can also view the preliminary proposals at www. lambeth.gov.uk/stockwellsquare where you can complete the online questionnaire. Next Steps The consultation feedback will be analysed and the design revised accordingly. The scheme is currently programmed for implementation in 2014.
