Action, a major screening series featuring more than 30 action films, from April 19 through July 7, 2019. Programmed by Curator of Film Eric Hynes and Reverse Shot editors Jeff Reichert and Michael Koresky, the series opens with cinematic swashbucklers and continues with movies from around the world featuring white- knuckle chase sequences and thrilling stuntwork. It highlights work from some of the form's greatest practitioners, including John Woo, Michael Mann, Steven Spielberg, Akira Kurosawa, Kathryn Bigelow, Jackie Chan, and much more. As the curators note, “In a sense, all movies are ’action’ movies; cinema is movement and light, after all. Since nearly the very beginning, spectacle and stunt work have been essential parts of the form. There is nothing quite like watching physical feats, pulse-pounding drama, and epic confrontations on a large screen alongside other astonished moviegoers. See It Big! Action offers up some of our favorites of the genre.” In all, 32 films will be shown, many of them in 35mm prints. The Visualization of the Twisted Tongue: Portrayals of Stuttering in Film, Television, and Comic Books JEFFREY K. JOHNSON HERE IS A WELL-ESTABLISHED TRADITION WITHIN THE ENTERTAINMENT and publishing industries of depicting mentally and physically challenged characters. While many of the early renderings were sideshowesque amusements or one-dimensional melodramas, numerous contemporary works have utilized characters with disabilities in well- rounded and nonstereotypical ways. Although it would appear that many in society have begun to demand more realistic portrayals of characters with physical and mental challenges, one impediment that is still often typified by coarse caricatures is that of stuttering. The speech impediment labeled stuttering is often used as a crude formulaic storytelling device that adheres to basic misconceptions about the condition. Stuttering is frequently used as visual shorthand to communicate humor, nervousness, weakness, or unheroic/villainous characters. Because almost all the monographs written about the por- trayals of disabilities in film and television fail to mention stuttering, the purpose of this article is to examine the basic categorical formulas used in depicting stuttering in the mainstream popular culture areas of film, television, and comic books.' Though the subject may seem minor or unimportant, it does in fact provide an outlet to observe the relationship between a physical condition and the popular conception of the mental and personality traits that accompany it. One widely accepted definition of stuttering is, "the interruption of the flow of speech by hesitations, prolongation of sounds and blockages sufficient to cause anxiety and impair verbal communication" (Carlisle 4). When an image on the film is obliterated with a round black mark, it is an indication of either blurred copy because of movement during exposure, duplicate copy, or copyrighted materials that should not have been filmed. For blurred pages, a good image of the page can be found in the adjacent frame. If copyrighted materials were deleted, a target note wfll appear listing the pages in the adjacent frame. 3. When a map, drawing or chart, etc., is part of the material being photographed, a definite method of “sectioning” the material has been followed. It is customary to begin filming at the upper left hand comer o f a large sheet and to continue from left to right in equal sections with small overlaps. Hogan, is a fun film about an eccentric woman who randomly takes on the role as the nanny of five children who have a “crazy” mother. Through her shenanigans she is able to teach them about the madness of life and the importance of family. Toni Collette and Anthony LaPaglia sink themselves into their roles so brilliantly that you lose yourself in their insanity. Oh, and it’s an Aussie film, which adds yet another level of fun! Mental combines the certifiably loony characters of Best In Show with the heartfelt songs of The Sound of Music, literally. Recommended For: People who can appreciate off-the-wall, zany stories! Silver Linings Playbook is a peculiar story about two people who have experienced loss and want to believe in a better tomorrow. Hope gives them comfort. Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper spend the majority of the film challenging one another, both as characters and actors. -

Being an avid motorcycle enthusiast, he had a pair of his personal bikes done up in this same color scheme and was pleased enough with it that he made a suggestion to Pontiac Design Stu- dio #2 Director John Schinella that he apply it to a Trans Am. Schinella requisitioned a Buccaneer Red 455 automatic ‘73 Trans Am which was deliv- ered to the Design Center paint shop, where the entire car — including the rear bumper — was painted a custom black metallic lacquer with gold metalflakes mixed in. The tailpipes, grilles and head- light bezels were painted metallic gold and the Hon- eycomb wheels were covered with a genuine gold coating. Gold pinstriping was then applied around the grille openings, wheel arches, rear bumper, the upper portion of the car, around all of the glass openings and over the roof. Forty years later, Smokey and the Bandit makes its way back to movie screens nationwide for two days only on Sunday, May 21 and Wednesday, May 24 as part of the year-long TCM Big Screen Classics series from Turner Classic Movies and Fathom Events. This screening will also include specially- produced commentary from TCM host Ben Mankiewicz, both before and after the feature. “The Bandit” (Reynolds) has 28 hours to drive a truckload of Coors beer from Texarkana, Texas, to Atlanta – while doing everything he can to avoid the relentless pursuit of “Smokey,” aka Sheriff Buford T.
