THE PITCHING MATCH-UP: LHP Steven Moyers (3-4, 5.37 ERA) vs. RHP Ryan Feltner (3-4, 5.06 ERA) Moyers: Hurled six scoreless innings with four strikeouts against Asheville April 25 in Charleston Feltner: Held West Virginia to two runs on four hits over six innings with 8K April 26 in Charleston POWER SMACKED 16-1 SATURDAY: West Virginia’s offense was subdued for the second straight day, while Asheville’s offense went to work in the late innings, plating 14 runs from the fifth inning on in a 16-1 walloping of the CURRENT ROAD TRIP Power Saturday night at McCormick Field. HR: 7 High HR: 6/Low HR: 2 Errors: 2 High Errors: 9/Low E: 1 ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE NUMBERS: The Tourists piled up 19 hits against West Virginia last night, the most hits the team has allowed in a game this season. The Power has not given up more than 19 hits in a contest since 2019 VS. TOURISTS 2014, when they surrendered 20 hits two times in the span of a week to the Delmarva Shorebirds (June 24) and the 6-4 Lakewood BlueClaws (June 30). West Virginia had not June 1 Asheville 16-1, Loss dropped 20 games in a single month since May 2012, when they put up an identical 10-20 record, while the pitching staff June 2 Asheville 2:05 p.m. has not held a higher monthly ERA since April 2012, as the arms slotted in a 5.80 earned run average over 24 games. 2018 Results: DOMINANT DAYEISON: Dayeison Arias shut down the last major Tourists rally in the seventh Thursday night, 5-2 entering with runners at the corners and two down with Asheville’s hottest hitter in Terrin Vavra at the dish. The reliever induced a groundout and cruised through the other three batters he faced in the eighth. Arias has not allowed an earned All-Time SAL Series: run in his last 11 appearances (April 25-present), during which he has thrown 17 innings, ceded just six hits and struck ASH leads 67-58 out 21 batters compared to four walks. Only one other pitcher in the SAL has a spotless ERA with at least that many innings under their belt in this span, Kannapolis starter Johan Dominguez (21 innings, six games, four starts). Broshuis* Abstract Collective bargaining has significantly altered the landscape of labor relations in organized baseball. While its impact on the life of the major league player has garnered much discussion, its impact on the majority of professional baseball players—those toiling in the minor leagues—has re- ceived scant attention. Yet an examination of every collective bargaining agreement between players and owners since the original 1968 Basic Agree- ment reveals that collective bargaining has greatly impacted minor league players, even though the Major League Baseball Players Association does not represent them. While a few of the effects of collective bargaining on the minor league player have been positive, the last two agreements have estab- lished a dangerous trend in which the Players Association consciously con- cedes an issue with negative implications for minor leaguers in order to receive something positive for major leaguers.
