An exquisite technique and ingenious flair for tonal colour are the hallmarks which make Benjamin Grosvenor one of the most sought-after young pianists in the world. His virtuosic command over the most strenuous technical complexities never compromises the formidable depth and intelligence of his interpretations. Described by some as a Golden Age pianist (American Record Guide) and one almost from another age (The Times), Benjamin is renowned for his distinctive sound, described as poetic and gently ironic, brilliant yet clear-minded, intelligent but not without humour, all translated through a beautifully clear and singing touch (The Independent). Benjamin first came to prominence as the outstanding winner of the Keyboard Final of the 2004 BBC Young Musician Competition at the age of eleven. Ryuichiro Sonoda
Saverio Clemente Andrea De Amici Luca Targetti Sonoda Ryuchiro, born in Tokyo in 1976, started his musical education at age 6 studying Piano. He graduated in Conducting in 2004 at the Tokyo National University of Music and Fine Arts under the guidance of James Lockhart, Masahisa Endo and Kotaro Sato. He then studied with Kurt Masur in Tokyo, Charles Dutoit at the Miyazaki International Music Festival and Gianluigi Gelmetti at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana, where he was awarded the Carlo Corsini Prize in 2004 and graduated with honors in 2006. He was assistant to Gianluigi Gelmetti in numerous productions, including: La Bohème, Tancredi, Semiramide, Le Nozze di Figaro, Tristan und Isolde and La Traviata in Rome; Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Teatro Real in Madrid; and La Rondine in Tokyo with the Japan Philharmonic. During the season 2006/07, he conducted Tosca in Siena, La Bohème for the Japan Opera Foundation in Tokyo and Il Viaggio a Reims at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro. Marie Collier: a life Kim Kemmis A thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Department of History The University of Sydney 2018 Figure 1. Publicity photo: the housewife diva, 3 July 1965 (Alamy) i Abstract The Australian soprano Marie Collier (1927-1971) is generally remembered for two things: for her performance of the title role in Puccini’s Tosca, especially when she replaced the controversial singer Maria Callas at late notice in 1965; and her tragic death in a fall from a window at the age of forty-four. The focus on Tosca, and the mythology that has grown around the manner of her death, have obscured Collier’s considerable achievements. She sang traditional repertoire with great success in the major opera houses of Europe, North and South America and Australia, and became celebrated for her pioneering performances of twentieth-century works now regularly performed alongside the traditional canon. Collier’s experiences reveal much about post-World War II Australian identity and cultural values, about the ways in which the making of opera changed throughout the world in the 1950s and 1960s, and how women negotiated their changing status and prospects through that period. She exercised her profession in an era when the opera industry became globalised, creating and controlling an image of herself as the ‘housewife-diva’, maintaining her identity as an Australian artist on the international scene, and developing a successful career at the highest level of her artform while creating a fulfilling home life. This study considers the circumstances and mythology of Marie Collier’s death, but more importantly shows her as a woman of the mid-twentieth century navigating the professional and personal spheres to achieve her vision of a life that included art, work and family. -

Sie hören nicht die wunderbare Musik von Bach, Mozart, Beethoven oder Bruch…“ Im Studium an der Juilliard School kommt David Garrett mit anderen Sparten wie Schauspiel und Tanz in Berührung. Er erkennt, dass diese Studenten selten Konzerte mit klassischer Musik besuchen, aber begeistert sind, wenn er klassische Melodien auf der Violine anspielt. Bei Jam-Sessions wird David Garrett von seinen Freunden gefragt, ob er auch Pop-Songs anspielen kann. Dies macht er natürlich und lässt immer wieder klassische Stücke einfließen, die während ihrer Entstehungszeit ebenfalls zur damaligen populären Musik zählten. -
