Practicing mercy in our lives actually does take practice. 1. Plan a mini pilgrimage to a local shrine; make an effort along the way to live the corporal work of mercy of “welcoming the stranger” as Christ. 2. If you didn’t mean to be a pain in the neck to someone, admit that you were and ask the person to forgive you. 3. Hold. Your. Tongue. NORTH BATTLEFORD NEWS 1. MY WEEK IN REVIEW Glory be to Jesus Christ! I thought it was a slack week because the clergy retreat in Muenster took over 50 % of the time, but a lot of other things happened too. First the clergy retreat. We prayed Matins, Liturgy, Molebyn and Vespers every day. The content of the retreat was studying the Apostolic Exhortation (300 page letter from Pope Francis) called Amoris Laetitia, The Joy of Love. 5 eparchial priests prepared presentations and we discussed the contents. It is all about families and what are the issues that families face. It is written very simply and although it is long it could be read by the average person so that everyone could benefit from its message. (In this district we will be visiting this document in the future through sermons.) The priests also do business at these meetings with a consultor’s meeting and a clergy conference. We also socialize and one of my highlight moments was Fr. Jeffrey on his bandura with about 8 of us singing Ukrainian Folk Songs and a group playing Kaiser in the corner and a sitting room full of others just talking and sharing. For the parishes I did 2 liturgies, anointing of the sick, 4 confessions, 3 hospital visits, 4 house visits, Humboldt meeting, FSC class, office work, NB parish council meeting and a bunch of office cleaning because Bishop Bryan is coming to visit. For my day off I did yard work and went to a movie with Debbie and Nina. Planted some grass in Saskatoon and weeding/watering. I also did grass cutting in NB and we had to buy a new weed eater. I would have rather bought a goat but decided that’s not appropriate. For the military I was the principal Padre for the Decoration Day service. That was very interesting as it was working with a new set of people predominantly the Legions. My favourite part was that there were over 110 cadets and I managed to get all 6 padres together at the same time and place. Just me, Fr. Ivan PS If anyone is interested I helping to build a clay oven in NB Western Development Museum then give me a call. We are doing serious planning and gathering of materials now and will be working June 23 and 24.
